Why does the Disney Dooney & Bourke line have to be so far outside my budget?

I've never been a purse person. A purse is a purse. It just has to be functional.

But last night I was looking around on ebay and saw a Disney Dooney & Bourke that I love. :lovestruc Some are just okay but this one? I NEED it!! The price though ... :faint: There's just no way for it to fit in our budget. :sad1:

If you have one, or don't have one, are they really worth the price? Do they hold up well?

I was thinking maybe I could suggest to DH that I would like it for Christmas and our anniversary (Jan. 4). It'd be a combined gift.

Those DB purses are not worth it, just like the majority of the Coach bags seen now. The are made mostly of plastic or leatherette with leather trim. There purses are worth maybe $50 at most. Trust me, a true purse enthusiast laughs at these posers with the cheap "status" symbols. Look for a classic timeless all leather purse rather than a cheap purse that has designer logos splashed on leatherette/plastic.

It depends on which Dooney bag design you get. Some are real leather and will last a very long time. I still have 3 of my bags that I bought in the early 90's.

The OP asked about the Disney purses, which are made mainly out of leatherette/plastic/fabric with leather trim. Just like Coach, DB sold out to the masses and now sells cheap purses that contain VERY little leather. A classic coach/DB is great, but most of the purses sold to the status seeking masses is garbage worthy of Wally World.

I feel the exact same way. I really, really want one particular bag, but I'm not willing to spend that kind of money on it. I hope one day the Dooney fairy will visit my house and put that special purse under my pillow. :lmao:

I was going to say that I couldn't even rationalize asking for one as a combined gift, but I found myself thinking of finding that perfect bag at WDW in October. Oh, what am I going to do if I see it??? I did get an email from DVC asking me to do a phone tour or something for a $25 gift card. I could use that to pay for the sales tax...

The most I've ever spent on a purse is a Vera Bradley bag from ebay. I think it was $40. Most of my other purses are just from Kohls or Kmart or something.

What purse is it? I'm in love with the sketch design, but am still on the fence about spending the money.

Also, fyi, The Dooney and Burke outlets are starting to carry the older designs. The one by me currently has the tonal line, the wonder line and the princess line. They're 40% off the retail price, so that may be an option if you have an outlet store close by.

some Dooney and Bourke outlets have the purses for 40% off. I just went to the Clinton Crossing outlet in CT today, and I found a multi-colored mickey print and one of the cruise prints. The lady working there told me they have also gotten in the tan mickey purse, the sketch purse and the Disneyland 55th purse.

I don't know if you live near an outlet, but it might be worth checking out.

I own a few Disney Dooney's and I just love them! I have found them to hold up well, and I have no complaints about the quality. I mean, its no Birkin bag, but I think its a nice mid-range purse. I wouldn't worry about purse snobs laughing at your Dooney, if they are laughing at a Dooney and Bourke, then they are laughing even harder about a purse from Kohls (and I own many a purse from kohls!). You can't please everyone. :sad2:

I'm not a pocketbook person or clothes person, etc . .. I HATE spending money on material things . . .but I do have to say, I'm in LOVE with the 40th Anniversary Disney DB bag . . .OMG . . .I WANT IT, but I cannot fathom spending all that money . . .on a purse . . .:rolleyes1

Maybe I'll take a drive to Clinton . . never been there . . .hmmmm

I have met so many nice people because of my colorful Mickey Dooney bag
They see Mickey and it starts the Disney conversation
It's cute, functional and helps make new friends!

I just bought this--- the messenger bag style one. And I LOVE it! Really, I do. I hemmed and hawed over it for five months, but I caved when we were there last week. And I don't regret it!

Clinton did not have any of the WDW 40th purses, and the lady who worked there (and who is a Disney fan!) told me that they had never gotten any in. They have gotten some Disneyland 55th, but not WDW 40th.

I was all set to buy one of the DCL or DL Dooney's on my trip in January. When it came to handing over the money.....I just could not do it.

Maybe I will see if there is a outlet store near me.

My husband bought me the Disneyland anniversary purse as a wedding gift and I *love* it. Was it a splurge? sure! But I wear it everyday and it makes me happy and that makes it worth it.

WHAT??? how much were the prices at Clinton Crossing? I want I need I need Gimme Gimme Gimme (Bob,from what about Bob:rotfl2:) I'm less than an hour from there....time to hit the road!

hmmm....I always sort of 'laughed' at people who spent so much to carry a certain brand of purse they frequently had nothing left to carry in it!(read,money):thumbsup2 But I love the Dis D&B bags b/c of the cute disney designs, has nothing to do with the brand,at least for me. But I also carry a purse from Kohls:scared1: when the mood hits me:rotfl: must visit outlets!

I'm dissapointed to hear that they aren't of super high quality. :(

My last purse came from ALCO, a little general merchandise store here in town. It was $19.99 and I had a hard time paying that. I'd been looking for something that I really liked for so long and it was exactly what I had been looking for so I bought it. Before that I was stuffing everything in my pockets - debit card, ID, cell phone, car keys, etc.

Before that I'd never paid more than $10 for a purse. My sister had a cute wallet and I wanted one just like it. $19.99 at Target it was. I waited until they went on clearance. I'm kind of frugal (cheap) like that. :rolleyes1

I just can't bring myself to pay the price for the D&B purse I want - the 40th anniversary one! It is SO CUTE!

There aren't any outlet stores near me. :( The closest one is about 3 1/2 hours from here. I can't see driving that far for a purse. My DH will really think I've flipped! :lmao:

No one that has responded has mentioned the disneystore.com, they often have them on sale there, I lucked out and found the one I wanted to give as a gift on sale with a bonus warehouse clearance sale for extra savings, I saved over $100 on that bag alone. You just have to know what they have in stock, what is on sale and check often to see if any specials sales are going on to save even more money.

Dooney outlets have the Disney now...:cool1::cool1::cool1: I don't have an outlet near me, but I will be in Orlando over the Labor Day weekend.. guess I will be going to the outlet mall!!!

Unless you have a car, you are paying approximately $25 one way ($50 roundtrip) just to see what they have in stock. Realize they may not have the bag you desire, especially when you desire a Mickey bag in the Mickey headquarters of the US. You may be faced with a walll of funky green bags or worse yet a million "made for outlet" bags which equates to "we wouldn't sell it in a top (real) store, but if you suckers are willing to overpay for a bag simply because we slap a logo on it, then hey we are willing to suck your dollars and sell you a made for outlet product."
