Why do people say...

"Hey, do you know what I was thinking", when they start a conversation...I always reply "If I knew what you were thinking, you wouldn't have to tell me"...and then they look at me with this puzzled look ...my secretary and a couple of people that work for me do this all the time.

That's because the recognize a rhetorical question. Apparently you do not.

DH says this all the time. My usual reply, "So, you CAN think?!

For some reason the phrase "Did I share with you?"(person is trying to lead/sell) drives me nuts. I want to say "No, you didn't and you really don't have to."
