Why Do People Do This To A Funeral Procession?

I went to the funeral today of a friend who's 94 year old mother passed away. This lady was a great lady, and is a great loss to many people, so she had a LONG funeral procession from church to cemetery. The family had 2 policemen to help with traffic as the procession went along, and they did a great job. There was this guy, though, who was not in the procession who kept cutting in and out of it. When we got to an intersection, we were in the right lane, this guy was in the center lane and tried to cut across the procession to take a right turn. The policeman actually had to SCREAM at him to stop, and when the guy finally stopped, the policeman went up to his car and was yelling at him, and he very well deserved it!!!!

What is it wiith people that they can't wait 3 mionutes for a funeral procession to go by?

PS-This guy wasn't in any hurry to rush to an emergency, because he came out of the liquor store & stopped at a drive through Dunkin Donuts.

I went to my great-aunt's funeral on Friday and was very pleased by how quickly the police officers dealt with anyone who wanted to drive through our procession or honked at us for "running" red lights.

What a sad person indeed. Hopefully he will remember how rude he was if he is ever in the circumstance of having lost someone he cares about. Perhaps remembering his actions shamefully would make him change.

Not only is it disrespectful, in most states it is illegal as well. The cop could have ticketed him for it, or called in backup to do it.

The same thing happened at my BIL's father's funeral.. My BIL was so outraged I thought he was going to jump out of the family limo and kill the guy! That is SOOO rude and inconsiderate!

As an aside, does anyone else do this? Whenever I'm in my vehicle and a funeral procession goes by, I always turn down my radio.. Don't ask me why - just seems inappropriate to have my radio playing snappy tunes when a procession is passing by..

I'm sure these are the same people who don't move out of the way for ambulances. I can not tell you how many times I've seen people not move. Heaven forbid they ever need an ambulance and someone doesn't move out the way.

Very disrepectful - however, I do have to wonder if maybe he'd never seen a funeral procession before? I'm 43 and can only think of one I've seen and that was when I was a child. (I have seen some on tv though for state funerals) I sure hope I would recognize one if I saw it.

Don't know how it is in other areas, but here every vehicle that is in the procession will have their headlights on and in some cases, a tag hanging from their mirror.. It's pretty easy to spot one..

i was in a procession a couple weeks ago that almost had a serious accident. The car in front of me continued through the intersection directly behind the rest of the cars (no big space gap) and another car, who had been sitting at the red light so he could see what was going on, just gunned it as soon as the light turned green. I don't know how he didn't hit one of us. We had at least 30 cars in line, no gaps, all had on headlights and hazard lights. He was just being a jerk. Can't stand people like that!

That was my thought to. I very rarely come across a funeral procession. I did come to the tail end of one on a four lane highway, and stayed in my lane to prevent people from passing. That was about a year ago, and I haven't come across another since.

As for the cars having headlights on during a funeral procession. I don't know about anyone else's car, but my Malibu automatically has headlights on during the day. A lot of newer cars have that for safety reasons.

You know I thought about that after I posted about the headlights, but the difference would be that the cars would all be in a line, one after another, all traveling at a fairly slow speed (even on the interstate).

At all the funeral homes around here they hand out flyers to everyone in the funeral procession stating that it is illegal to run red lights and stop signs even when in a funeral procession and to please obey traffic signals. They give you a map to the cemetary so you won't get lost when you get seperated.

The worst thing isn't people who won't get out of the way of an ambulance.

It's people that don't notice till the last second and then SLAM ON THE BRAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!

my dads procession was quite a site and thankfully we didnt have anyone cut in the line. Normally here its a hearce, 2 town cars, then the families vehicles. at my dads it was about 300 cars. Theres only 1 red light in our town and to get to the cemetary my dad was buried in, you had to go through it. The light went red/green/red 13 times and nobody honked or anything as people went through. We had police at the front, middle and end, and also an officer at the intersection where the red light is. Another was at the cemetary because we had to cross the road to get into it. That cop stopped oncoming traffic.

And yes- I do turn down my radio- not sure why!
