Why do parents insist on bringing gifts when the invite says "No Gifts!"

If only the internet had been around while my daddy was still alive.......He could have spun a tale of how charming and quaint our East Texas cows and chickens were and in no time flat, we could have had a bunch of European tourists doing our chores for us. :rotfl2: Dang.....

You may laugh at this then--

When my DH was growing up, his parents took him and his sister on an annual visit to "the farm" which was a real farm in Pennsylvania where you paid to stay and got to do some chores. Seriously, my FIL would go there to pitch hay and milk cows, while his wife and kids took eggs from underneath hens. One year, DH got into a fight with one of the chickens, then his sister decided she couldn't stand the smell in the barn. :lmao: I think they stopped going after that.

I have to admit, the original poster comes off as a bit peculiar, but I think some other posters on here are just being mean....

Why do you care what the op and their family choose to spend their money on for a vacation? Going to visit a cow in the Alps doesn't exactly ring my bell, but if that's what they wish to do as a family, MORE POWER TO THEM.

Also, it baffles my mind that people have a problem with the term 'girlie'. The kid is 7 years old, what do you want her to call her more gender specific outings? I am 29 years old and for my whole life my mother and I have referred to our mom and daughter days as 'girlie outings'. I have 'girlie meetings' with my friends at least once a month and if I happen to have a little girl, you better believe we'll have plenty of 'girlie time'.

I thought it was the OP was calling the girls "girlies", but I may be wrong.

I can't speak for other posters, but my problem with the OP is that her posts come off sounding as boasting about the amount of money her and her DP have.

Personally I don't give a hoot how many farm animals they lease or where they go or what they do with their money. Me, I would rather buy a cow and have it in the freezer--but that's just me.

I think people are going overboard on the use of the word girlies....I've called mine that as well as princesses, etc....many of you have posted pet names (even in your signatures) for children.

I don't think it's just one thing with the OP. He has stated that he lets his 6 year old drink alcohol, he leases a cow from Switzerland, he celebrates a made up holiday called Festivus and lets his daughter make a gift list, but doesn't let anyone get her gifts. He has started a thread about how well off he is financially. Then he started another one about what a great year he is having. He refers to women and girls as girlies.

But the cherry on top of this cake are his comments on this very thread about tweaking the yukus. When asked what the heck that meant, he said that it was basically making up a story that people will buy hook, line, and sinker. I can't remember his exact words, but it is posted earlier in this thread.

I don't think it's mean for people to wonder about this poster.
