I have wanted to move to FL for several years now, but for various reasons it is not in the cards (children from a prior marriage-dad lives here, fairly new home in NY, DH not ready to move, etc.)
The company I work for went from NY to FL about two years ago, and luckily I have remained on with them at home. A few employees moved with them, but some stayed here. Now, little by little, each person is moving there. I just heard that another one will probably be moving there soon. So, as much as I want to go, everyone else is going instead of me (and they don't even really want to like I do). To add insult to injury, if it ends up at some point that everyone except me moves, I think my employer will ask me to become a 1099 worker instead of the employee status I have now. I have already accepted less $ to be able to work from home, and I would hate to now be responsible for my own employment taxes, and all the recordkeeping that goes along with being self employed. My benefits are under DH, thank goodness.
I know I am lucky to be able to work from home, but I don't want my income cut more, etc.
With my luck, the day I actually do move to FL (if I ever get there), I'll lose my job.
Thanks for letting me whine a bit...

Sorry you can't move to Florida yet but how great that you can work from home.

I've been trying to move to Florida since '99. I'm almost there. It took careful planning and waiting, but it will happen if you really want to bad enough.
