Good afternoon everyone, I am looking for someone to tell me not to feel guilty!!! I am a single mother of a son, who is 9 years old. He and I have travelled to Disney World about 6 times, been on 2 cruises with another one coming up in May '08.
I just booked a last minute, 4 night all inclusive stay in Bahamas with a friend of mine....just the two of us. I have never been on vacation without my son and I am feeling really guilty about not taking him. He isn't sad/mad about not going, in fact, he is excited to stay with his grandparents for those 4 nights, but I can't shake this horrible guilt feeling.
Please tell me that I shouldn't feel bad about going...!!!! :sad2:

Don't feel guilty at all I would say your son is a very lucky boy having gone to disney as many times as he has. My son is 9 too and we just returned this past week. That was sons first trip ever. I was a single mom for a long time until I met my now husband. Let me tell from expeirance that being a single parent is a very tough job , you own it to yourself to take a break . What my new husband and I have decided to do is take the kids on every second trip which we feel is more then fair. The 2 of us went to the Dominican last year we took the kids to Disney this year and next year we are going to Vegas ourselves. So go and have a great time and lots of fun and your son will still love you when you get home !!!!!! LOL

Stop feeling guilty (easier said than done), sounds like you son is pretty lucky going to DW several times and on cruises. Now it's time for mom to have a little "me" time which I'm sure is well deserved and much needed. We all need time away from our kids and just relax take it easy and do things that we want to do.

I went on a cruise last year with just me, mom and sister, I was so relaxed and ready to face the world when I returned. Missed my family like crazy, but boy did they appreciate me when I returned.

Have fun!!

Relax....a happy Mom is a good Mom!....been there done that:goodvibes I was a single Mom for quite some time and took a kid free trip to Arizona. Best thing I ever did just for me.
Dh and I are taking a trip to WDW in April without the kids and at first we felt guilty but now we are just thrilled to have a kid free holiday to ourselves. No character meals for us! LOL

Every Mum needs to have some time in order to be a better Mum. Now that I am older I realize that it is important to have some time for me. I still haven't figured out how to get it but I know it is important. Go and enjoy yourself. It sounds like he is going to have his own "vacation".

Taking some time out for you to renew and relax actually sets a good example for your son. Many of us are working on that healthy balance of taking care of yourself and yet taking care of the family. It is an ongoing struggle. I say "You go girl!" And the guilt is normal too. After you've got the breeze in your hair and the sun on your face you will probably get over it. At least for the moment. Enjoy!:thumbsup2

I was exactly in your shoes and understand how you are feeling. One thing I learned when I was a single mom was that some "me" time gave me more patience and energy for "mommy" time. You deserve this!!

My wife is feeling the exact same way about our upcoming Disney trip we have never left the kids home other than on our honeymoon in 98 and now she is starting to freak out and wants to bring them with us. I have a feeling we will be writing a note to the school next Thursday telling them the kids will be away for 9 days.

Thank you all very much for your replies!!! :goodvibes
I know that I shouldn't feel bad.....I work full time and when I am not at work I am at home with my son. But, for whatever reason, I do feel guilty. You all are right though, I need to refresh myself and I'm sure my guilt will fade the moment I see the beach.....thanks again

Let me know how it works for you because I'll need some tips. We are booking our Mom and Dad only trip tomorrow. I feel the guilts but I also know that Mom and Dad need some alone time. We haven't had an adult vacation since before DS was born.
