why disney hotels?

Its all down to personal taste and if you are going to not spand the whole two weeks etc at WDW then there are better options.

We have in the past, stayed at Carribean Beach and Wilderness lodge.

Yes, the public theamed areas especially Wilderness Lodge was excellent, but strip that away and the room are essentially basic hotel room and quite small.

I would now always choose the villa over the quite high priced basic room Disney hotels, more room, own pool, proper kitchen and bathrooms.

I agree with Obi that the room sizes are small! You'll get much bigger rooms for your money off site but not nearly as much Disney!

We stop on-site when we want to experience Disney for all the reasons the lovely CarolFoy mentioned:thumbsup2 Plus for the younger kids there are bedtime stories on the in-room TVs a big plus when they get cranky and it's close to bedtime, helps them un-wind afer the busy park day and gives us parents time to clear our heads.
If we want to do more we stop off-site but close to Disney in a hotel that provides transport to the parks and is close to shops etc. That way we get a bigger room with fridge, microwave etc . Just consider what's important for your family's needs and then choose your location:thumbsup2 .
We are going back to All Star Movies for our 2nd stay because it's within our budget and we can stay for the fireworks etc that we missed last trip, we had to leave earlier to get the bus back to the off-site hotel. This time we will be stress free and stay for as long as we want:goodvibes

ooooh yes, - forgot the lovely bedtime stories, and what about the Disney wake up calls?
Disney caricature artists in house to draw you.
Cast Members on site to trade pins with if you don't want to stop in the park.
NICE guests who totally 'get' the Disney thing!

A cornucopia (my new favourite word :lmao: ) of DISsers to meet with as there will ALWAYS be someone from these boards staying there, so basically you're guaranteed friends for life - something Disney really should charge extra for ;)

Couldn't have said it better myself carol ;)
We havn't stayed in WDW for a couple of years, well, last year we stayed at the Dolphin but thats just not the same. I love having our own place but it's just not got the magic of staying on-site. I would still treat myself to an on-site stay now and then.

I have chosen an onsite hotel for the second time, I have stayed on I drive twice as well. As a solo visitor I find the on site hotels better as I can stay right to the end of the park hours and not miss anything, as for the room size for one person a villa is a waste of space so its perfect for me.

We stayed off site twice....and onsite once....this time round we're planning back onsite...it feels like your part of the magic all the time....the resort was really clean..unlike one of the other hotels we stayed offsite....

Thumbs up for onsite...
