Some people buy 150 points some people 214.... Why? And Where do you own?

We bought 2 OKW contracts for 200 and 230 Points (wanted around 400 got a good deal on 430 re-sale)

Then we added on 170 BCV. Now 160 would have met our needs. But 170 brought us to an even 600 points :D

160 @ BCV (as appose to 150 points) got us one more season per room size @ 2 years and 3 years banked(1 and 2 bedroom) 170 points adds nothing (but the magic munber of 600!)

I see that some of you are buying 214 points, 177 points etc.... and I was wondering what thought process brought you to your desision.....

Just wondering:rolleyes:

We started with 225 and have added on several times. We now have 600 like you. We wanted enough points to vacation 2 times a year and we now have plenty. We also wanted enough to leave both children with points of their own when we can't vacation anymore. Now, that should be a long time from now!!!

To be completely honest - we purchased what we could afford financially. We would NEVER have a problem with having "too many points" - we've got friends/family who would ALWAYS rent/use our points should we not be able to.

For us - it was just "how much can we afford a month."

I'm sure it wasn't very practical - but it worked for us...

150 points resale, still waiting to close

We only want to go to Disney every other year for a week. I hate crowds, so we will never go at the top of the point chart. We have two children and probably won't be taking a lot of guests. This give us 300 points to work with, for something between five and ten days every other year. We figure 5 days if we bring friends - closer to 10 without any guests.

I want to get my kids to travel internationally on the years we don't go to Disney. For right now (they are 2 and 3) we might end up at Disney every year in a Studio (we co-sleep when we are away from home) and could do this - until we think they are old enough to drag to London. I also want to get them to see much of the country. So we will be doing a lot of travel that won't involve the Mouse. I know I could use my DVC points to stay some very nice places all over the world, but those aren't the kind of vacations I'm dreaming of.

We decided to purchase enough points so that when our kids are older we have enough to stay in a 2 br villa for a week each summer. We knew we wanted to own at both BWV and VWL so that we had 11 month priority at each. Down the road we will use banking and borrowing and alternate resorts each year. We ended up buying at VWL (150) and BWV (175) as these were the particular resales we got the best deals on.

Beside getting that big cash outlay over with now, the good thing about buying all those points now (when we only need a studio) is that we will go twice a year until our kids are school age :).

We wanted 200 but were looking at financing for 5 years. However, since then we have had a large sum paid off by a check DHs grandparents sent him. We did buy in at 170 pts.

hi: we figured out approximately how many points it would take to spend (3) one week vacations over the course of 2 years in a studio when we made our initial purchase of 210 points. well, kiss the studio goodbye after the first stay in a 1 br and say hello to a 150 point add-on. we'll probably try to add another 60 points or so at our resort(bwv) either via resale or if we can get any through our guide; this will give each of our kids 210 points in the future.

We purchased our initial 220 points at OKW because we were advised you needed 220 in order to trade out. We toured on the spur of the moment and purchased immediately after the tour, so we really didn't have much time to think about anything. We just knew this was the best time share deal we had ever seen.

After a couple of years of DVC vacations we found ourselves dreaming about going more often, which lead to the decision to purchase more points.

We decided upon 130 add on a OKW, to bring our points to 350. Shortly there after we received a letter from DVC announcing BWV sales would be closing soon, so we decided to add 100 points there so we would have an 11 month window at that resort.

We now sit with 450. We have never stayed in a studio..after our first visit in a 2 bedroom, there was no looking back. We loved vero and Hilton Head. We dream of more points, but we are just 2 people with small families who can't travel as often as we do, so the need to share DVC isn't a pressing issue. We've considered adding BCV points, but we're not sure we could keep using more than 450 given the current banking rules of 1 year forward.

For us, we kept adding on because we wanted more dvc vacations! Between 4/28/2001 and 4/29/2002 we will have stayed at a DVC resort a total of 33 nights...I'd love to be able to spend more time, but vacation schedules don't allow..so for now, I think we'll be happy with what we have..and I'll always be a little envious of all of you who have more points than we do!!

I bought the amount that they had on the video they sent us as an example of the points. It was 270 or 290 I can't remember.

We bought enough points to cover a 2 bedroom unit at the VWL for the week we usually go. 270

People who bought odd numbers like 214 probably looked at the points chart and saw for example, a 1 preferred bedroom at BWV during Choice Season is 214 for a week.

Originally bought 200 at OKW, because that is what we could afford at the time and I think if I remember, we figured out that it would get us almost 3 weeks in a studio. Have plugged along with those same 200 points since 1997, but hopefully this year will add on another 200 points, preferably at OKW or BW.

We went to the BWV with friends that own there. Once we saw their 1 bedroom unit we were hooked. The next morning we went over for the tour and bought. We didn't get a chance to really think it over...the guide said 150 was the minimum so DH took 200 so we wouldn't be at the bottom. Actually it's worked out fine with borrowing. We'll be borrowed out by the end of 2004 but it'll be just in time to buy 200 more since we only financed for 5 years. Then we'll be able to give one contract to our DS and one to our DD.......perfect.

I think that, at the time, 210 points was the minimum that you could purchase at OKW. I could be wrong, but that's the size of our initial contract. In 1999, we purchased a 230 point resale. I was originally looking to buy 190 points so that we would have a nice even 400 points total, but the resale was too good to pass up. Now with 440 points, we are a couple points shy of being able to spend 12 nights in a 2br suite at OKW every summer. Perhaps another addon.....

We have two childern ages 4 and 5, a boy and a girl, that we knew would not want to be sleeping in the same bed much longer. With this in mind we purchased 600 points at BCV so that we could stay in a 2 bedroom 2 weeks each year, once in the spring and once in the fall. We are acutally considered an add-on now so that we have enough points with some room to do things such as stay an extra weekend night each trip which we had originally planned on staying at a value resort but now really don't want to move. Also an add-on would give us enough to do a cruise once in awhile.

I was going to buy 250, but my guide suggested that I might want to go to 270 (VWL) to enable a one-week trade-out. I ended up with 275 and am already glad for the extra 25 points.

Basically, 275 gets me a week of 1BR at most seasons at VWL. I figured that would be our "standard" vacation.

Being the frugal gal that I am... we bought 150 at BW which was the minimum. We bought in 2000. This past summer, after a nice real estate transaction, we purchased 75 more at BW. I wanted to use the profit from the sale to do the add on and that's what I could afford...also including dues for several years into the math. Now we have 225 which will be enough for us to do a nice 11 day trip in the off season in a 1 BR or bring friends along for a short trip occasionally. (We have kids, but since we homeschool, the off-season is our preferred time to visit.)

We originally bought 230 at OKW, than added on 70 more there to give us 300. Then we wanted the 11 month window at VB, so we bought 110 at VB. So currently we have 410 pts.
We are on a waiting list for OKW through DVC and looking at re-sales at OKW, we would like to add on 1 last time:rolleyes: at OKW for 75-100. This way our 2 kids (DS-27 DD 16) would have 250 pts each.:D ...............down the road.........:)

We bought 250pts because our sales rep.(Bobby Corsello)suggested it. He looked at our vacation history and said any less and we would be back soon to add on. He recalled an odd purchase of 1004pts.
