Why did you buy Saratoga Springs

My S/O and I just bought 200 points at SSR. We discovered this board about a month ago and it was very influential in gelping us decide which way to go. We were torn between a BWV resale and SSR. We paid cash so we didn't consider the finance aspect.

Here is why we opted for SSR.

1. Her child is grown so we did this for ourselves and wanted to be closer to DD and not as embedded in the parks.

2. I was at WDW in December and saw SSR going up. VERY Motivational!

3. We liked the 50 year deal because we figure if we sell after 20 years, we wil probably have more value on 30 years remaining rather than 19.

4. As a former thoroughbred owner, I had raced at Saratoga each summer and love the place! The theme appealed to us.

The clincher was when we looked at the photos at http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/g_ss.htm

and compared them with the BWV photos at
http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/g_bwv.htm

We (she) decided that we liked the decor better. We also liked the little caveat of "buying new."

After much discussion we heeded the advice often posted on these boards and decided to buy where we want to stay.

Our first trip is set for Thanksgiving!

We bought SSR because of the 50 years. I had want DVC since BCV were announced. My husband just felt it wasn't time for us to buy in. I was disappointed but kept up hope. Then less then a month before our wedding, I told my husband about SSR and the 50 years instead of 38 and he said we should go ahead and buy in asap. We are 26 & 25 so the extra 12 years mean alot to us. We plan on using it to have annual family vacations. Good luck with your decision.

For me I think the deciding factor was that I like Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island so much better than the Boardwalk.

I think I was also influenced by the ease of buying from Disney - one phone call and I could put it on my Disney Visa. that being said I've already added on by resale at OKW (or at least I'm in the process of doing so), and it was incredibly easy also.

I first looked at BWV at DVC when staying at BW just after ithe hotel first opened. The service at the hotel was probably the worst I've ever had anywhere which just left me not feeling great about BW in general although I know the service has to have gotten better.

Although my wife and I were interested in buying when we took our trip down to Disney last year, it was the appearance of the room that really cinched it for us....it was DEFINITELY our style!

Once the decision to buy into DVC is made, the 12 extra years of ownership is huge, as well. We view our purchase as a way of budgeting for our future vacations with our family.

In addition financing was easy through Disney and, best of all, does not appear on our credit report, which was big for us since we were looking into buying a house (which we have since purchased)!:earsboy:

We bought for the following reasons:

1. 50 year contract.
2. I like the decor.
3. Proximity to DTD (we always go to DTD every visit--I hope it works out that we can walk from SSR :)
4. Dec 2003 UY (It's like getting an extra set of points)/we wanted a Dec UY to cover winter visits
5. Incentive: $10.00 per point discount (and keep the points!)
6. The Spa
7. The proposed pool looked great.
8. 1/2 year maint. fees for 2004 (starting when resort opens)
9. Needed more points to cover our vacation objectives--DVC still
seems to be the most flexible.
10. Potential relaxing vacations not necessarily focused on park visits. (Like maybe a "spa" visit vacation... :) )

Added:
11. One more: we thought that "Seasons" was coming back when we purchased (it was a favorite restaurant of ours)... Then, I read that is wasn't. I was so pleased to hear that it is coming back!

SSR will be next door to Old Key West, and there's more than a decade's worth of purchasers who never thought that OKW (the original DVC) was "boring" just because it's not next to Epcot.

SSR is on the WDW grounds. It's part of the bus system (and might--no promises--eventually get a monorail spur). It's within walking distance of Downtown Disney. I don't think anyone who buys in will be bored.
