Why did they have to change it? (radio station rant)

Yesterday, I was on my way to my first day at my new job.. turned on the radio station.. hoping to hear the 80's at 8, a whole hour of 80's music.

I loved it, it was commercial free, decent 80's, not the usual recycled stuff.. (really how often can we hear Come on Eileen?)

Anyway, turned on the station, and I hear TALK! All of it TALK! Not one note of music.. just chatty, chatty stuff.

I was MAD!

Then, I gave it another chance this morning.. yet AGAIN! Then by reflex, I turned it on again on the way home... no more retro music! Current music!

YUCK! This was my haven for decent music, not the same current stuff I can hear everywhere else..

Guess I'll be bringing my own CDS now...

I used to work in the radio business, so I know how it is. These kinds of decisions are made for one reason - money. Your favorite station was probably not bringing in enough revenue to satisfy its owners, so they changed the format.

Ooooh! I hate it when they do that!

I listened to a station that played "Songs from the 70's & 80's" all the time. They had THE best station! One day on the way into work, all I hear is talk. I thought, well, maybe they're having something going on today, I'll listen later. Later that afternoon, they had my music playing so I was happy again.:) The next morning, talk again. They switched to some talk station in the mornings instead of playing music. I don't listen to that station at all in the mornings. I don't like talk shows. Especially in the mornings.

It would be interesting if our stations are playing the same talk show, Cindy.

I hate that too. One of my fav. stations turned into a latino station!!

I don't have a favorite radio station anymore. It seems that anytime I start to like one, it changes format :(

The 80's radio station down here changed to a Latin music radio station. :(

We had a really fun station here that played old disco and retro stuff. One day, it just morphed into a rock station, which we have enough of as it is. Seems like anything good, they axe.

Yeah we had a great classic rock station and one day I turned to it and it was all spanish speakers & music. I still left it programmed though because there is nothing like good latin music on a sunny warm day and every 6 months when we get one it comes in handy. :) My favorite stations these days are high school and college stations...great mix of music and nobody seems to mess with them.

Which station is this, Cindy? I never would have heard it because I'm never in my car at 8am (I'm where I have to be by then or just starting to DIS by then :p ) and I wouldn't have listened anyway because it was 80's music. LOL! :p Just curious. :)

It sounds like its time for you to get XM, Cindy. I've had it for nearly a year now and I could never live without it. I've got the "Boneyard" for my hard rock and 80's hair bands, I've got "Fred" for the 80's and 90's alternative stuff, and then I've got a station for each decade - 50's through the 90's. Not to mention about 95 other stations!! Most are commercial free, too!! :D

I still have my retroactive station on Directv, but not in the car..

All early 80's, with a British influence.

Saffron it was 96.5..

What I got sick of with the radio was all the rap crap that was playing on every station. I made the switch to talk radio. Now, when I need a music fix or the kids are in the car with me, we turn on a Disney CD.
