Why did meeting sports or any other celebrities start going downhill?

I can answer for musicians. The whole way they get paid has changed with the rise of streaming services. It used to be a majority of a band's income came from selling albums and singles, while tours would break even but were mostly there to promote the music. Now with streaming payouts being lower than album sale profit, they need to make more money touring. This means higher ticket prices, paid meet n greets, and expensive merch.
