Why did I choose Atkins BEFORE Vacation? What am I going to do now?

Okay, so I started Atkins a few weeks ago at the recommendation of my dr (believe it or not). So, I have to say, its going pretty good. I'm off to a decent start. The problem is, I'm going in just a few weeks and I don't know how I am going to survive. I think that being 100% faithful is just setting myself up for a major fall and when I fall, I fall HARD :headache: :headache: . So, I was thinking, maybe one "cheat" a day. Or making a list of the things that I will allow myself.... Like I really, really, have wanted to try Tonga Toast for so long.... I don't know- what would you do? Or what have you done? We're on DDP and I don't think the main meals will be that hard- just the snacks.... Any advise would be appreciated!! :worship:

I am going to move this to the Diet and Fitness board (W.I.S.H - We're Inspired to Stay Healthy)

I am sure that they'll have great tips on how to healthfully eat around the World there. :goodvibes

Been there done that...and you are right main meals, not a problem...protein and vegs. no big deal. But OMG the desserts:scared1: Especially if you are sitting there and watching others eat them.

I could not go without...so what I did was I did not order dessert...but allow myself, one table spoon of whatever dessert my husband ordered at dinner time. I did not have any dessert for lunch, unless if was a small piece of fresh fruit.

Best wishes to you and your diet. Don't give up...stick with it...you can do it and even on those tough days...take one meal at a time.:thumbsup2

DH is a physician and Atkins is our diet of choice. Older DD13 is doing a low key version now and has lost about 10 pounds in a month. If you can and like it I'd take things like Slim Jim's from home with me and use them for snacks, along with the string cheese packages. They make it in Cheddar now, you can keep them in a fridge or cooelr in your room and take them in your bag with you. Use your snack credit for a bottle water, add Crystal Light packet that you take with you. If you want Tonga toast, see if someone else in your party will let you try a bite of theirs, eat eggs and bacon/ham/sausage. By the time you go you will have built up momentum and will find whe nyou return home, taht if you have cheated, it's just like starting over with induction again. Eat steaks and sauteed mushrooms or steamed veggies (broccoli and cauliflower) with lemon, salad with ranch or bleu cheese, grilled meats, stuff like that. We have been doing a modified version with DD for moral support, (plus my BP is elevated again), but will probably go off when we go or just switch to smaller portions/meal sharing but we are not on DDP. I've lost around 10 pounds myself, would liek to lose some more before going. We have 'Ohaha booked, WCC, Sci Fi and San Angel. I can stick to the meat, no starch pretty well down there except for the bananas foster bread pudding at 'Ohana. If I can just keep from gaining I'll be happy.

I do Atkins every time before going to WDW (twice a year). My dessert is at 8:00 pm after treadmill. 10 strawberries with Cool Whip Free. I lose 15-20 lbs in 60 days - everytime! The rest of the time (about 7 months - I eat normally).

If you make up your mind to do your best to stick with the plan as much as possible during this time you should be able to get in some planned treats.

Do your best to make your new lifestyle those with healthy choices. If you "taste" I would think that would not be horrible. I wonder if you can plan to split those "must haves" with someone, or just plan to split it with the garbage can. Have some, just don't have all. Moderation is always key.

Healthy choosing will get easier, but don't set yourself up for failure.

Plan to get back on right after you return. Make the best choices you can for healthy eating, but enjoy your vaca!

Thanks all for the help! Just realized that when we get back- it's Thanksgiving and Christmas time!! :scared1: Oh man, when will they just make a pill? LOL
