Okay, can someone please tell me WHY my cat insists on knocking over the small trash bins in the bathroom and my bedroom and then rifling through all the contents? I keep finding pieces of bathroom trash all over my house. Yuck!

Mine too.

Reasons? Because they're a cat and they can...
Yup, pretty much. I've gotten to the point where if there's anything *yucky* in the bathroom trash, I have to change it right away. If it's just tissue paper and cardboard, they can have at it.

*reminder to self: buy replacement vaccuum bags*

Yup, I agree.

Because they can. ::yes:: :teeth:

(Though if you get a trash can that has a cover on it, or put the trash can in a cabinet, that'll decrease the frequency of them getting into *that* trash can at least)

Mine don't do that but I have one who is 18 years old and she hunts socks. She's been doing this since she was a kitten. She jumps in the laundry basket, digs for socks, then carries them down the hall making a really funny howling noise. She repeats this until all socks are DEAD! She gives most of her prey to my son next to his bed. She does this mostly at night and when we're out. If no dirty ones are available, she'll open my other DS's sock drawer and pull out only the white ones. We even changed the socks in to another dresser and she went right to them.

Simba and Cali have never done this. Cali does enjoy using the toilet paper roll as a scratching post though. :teeth:

I guess I am lucky, Cheeky and Figaro my cats do not do this. Figaro does bring mice back from the field next to our house though (some times in tact, some times minus the head!!)

My cat Mystic used to unroll all of the toilet paper off of the roll. Now that she is 4, I can start putting the TP back in the holder again. :smooth:

My Mischief likes to hunt elastics.

I saw one on the sidewalk outside, maybe the mail man dropped it. A few days later it was placed nicely by the garage door. I moved it away to see what would happen and again it was returned to the door. Now when it shows up I just move it away again, so she has something to hunt.

She also does this inside the house too.

My little cat, Arizona, (RIP 1/20/04) liked to carry around those triangular wedge make up sponges and Q-tips. If these were in the trash or left on the vanity, she was sure to find them and leave them around somewhere. There was also the time that an entire box of my "unmentionables" were left in odd spots all around my apartment ;) I never did figure out which kitty was the culprit, but you can bet I have not left that type of item accessible since then.

Hey, I wish our cats did that........

We have one cat that has a fetish with toliet paper rolls. He destroys them by chewing holes throughout the toliet paper and then spit the paper out. We know have to keep all the toliet paper under the sinks & inform our guests where they can find the toliet paper.

Our second cat loves to knock over the water (our water jug is similiar to an office water cooler) to see the bubbles. We had to remove the water jug because he was ruining the hardwood floors.

My kitty doesn't do that but he can open the cabinet where we keep his food and scratches at the bag until the food falls out. He will also get out his pouches of moist food and scratch them until they are open. I come home and find food all over my kitchen but he is just so cute I can't be mad at him.

Have you heard this saying...."dogs are pets but cats are employers!" So true!

I think it's the smell - anything that smells like us, the cats love, even if it's trash. Tycho has been known to walk around with his daddy's dirty boxers in his mouth.
