Why can't the new Disney Ships have Casinos?

Should the new Disney ships have Casinos?

  • Yes - I'd love to try Mickey Slot Machines.

  • No - Casinos are worse than Cruella DeVille.

  • Maybe.

The spa is not available to everyone. The spa is for adults only.

Not true.....the hair salon in the spa is open to anyone. My DD's have had there hair done and have had manicures and pedicures on many of our cruises.
They have also been able to get mini massages under adult supervision.

I don't like casinos or gambling so I voted no. A Disney casino just seems wrong. When I think casino I think Vegas, not Disney. It might make them money but I would prefer they stay family friendly. Being from a family with gambling addicts I can assure you there is a lot of non-family friendliness attached to gambling.

There is a lot of non-family friendliness attached to drinking but there is plenty of alcohol being pushed onboard. Just sayin :)

I agree.....but Disney's line of thinking is that everything should be availible to everyone. A casino is not a family friendly activity.
It is unfortunate that Disney does not realize that there are alot of childless people who cruise with them.

Bingo is only open to 18+ , it's gambling, and it has the worst odds ever, I think they are being a little hypocritical.

The question is, would it add anything for Disney to have them. There is an anticipated revenue stream that is untapped, yes, but would it also bring along negative issues as well.

Disney doesn't exactly have trouble filling its ships, so those who choose to travel on their line obviously are not making a decision to stay away because of the lack of a casino. I also don't really believe most people choose to cruise because of a casino, rather it is more macro in that people want choices of things to do, whether it be a show, food, spa, etc, which Disney offers a great selection from.

They may not have trouble filling 2 ships but if this economy doesn't get better and they are adding 2 more ships, it may become an issue. Also, I did not cruise DCL for a long time because of the lack of casino, and I think there is very little to do in the evenings on DCL. Yes, they have clubs but in the 2 DCL cruises I've been on, they have been empty, and the bands were bad.

Disney has a DVC timeshare in Vegas and it does not have a casino in it.
There is no DVC in Vegas.

I think it would bring an aspect to the Disney ships that is not kid friendly.

Ya know, the creepy uncle that should have been left home!

People people please I think we all know the real reason why Disney does not have Casino's onboard Ship. The return and mark up is not high enough:cool1: :rotfl2:

We also have to remember that Mickey only has 4 fingers... and Pluto, just flat-out can't hold cards... so he's just be able to maybe spin the roulette wheel? And we all know Donald can't bluff to save his life, so it's a pretty safe bet the characters wont be workin' there.
I mean serioulsy, even if they had BINGO, Donald would be ruled out due to lack of being able to understand him when he say RREEEE...RREEEREVEN (B11). Yah. I think of these things. *sigh*

For me, this topic is analogous to no alcohol being allowed in the MK.

On the one hand, I sort of understand the concern. Disney is all about the wholesome family experience, and blackjack and slot machines don't really fit into that construct.

But, on the other, it amazes me that Disney, never one to turn down a buck, (goodness knows ;) ) lets this potential cash cow slip through it's corporate fingers.

Personally, I'd welcome a casino on the ship. And this comes from someone that only plays an occasional slot. I don't really think it would attract 'the wrong element', on the contrary I think it's kind of festive just walking through an area with lots of flashing lights and computerized music.

Alcohol hasn't destroyed the family experience at all the other parks outside of MK, and IMO gambling wouldn't hurt the feel of any of the cruise ships.
