Why can you pack scissors in your carryon, but not mascara?

Personal lubricants up to 4 oz? Yes!

So, toothpaste and shampoo is a no-go, but "personal lubricant" is ok.

Mile high club, anyone?

1. :rotfl2:
2. ewwwww!

The people who run the TSA failed Logic 101 and Controls 101.

They got an A in "harrassment 101" however.

You are not dramatically safer now that we have the TSA, but you are a lot more harrassed....

Just FYI, the "personal lubricant" exception is meant for disabled persons who have catheters. I thought it was really weird, too, until a nurse friend pointed out that if you have to do anything with a catheter in-flight you might need some.

They should re-think that one! A terrorist could do some real damage wielding around a catheter.

Well, thanks for taking all the fun out of my air travel plans . . .

:rotfl:

Talk about security theater... :earseek:

I think we all learned what we needed to do with terrorists on an airplane by 9:30 AM Eastern time on September 11, 2001. Anyone who thinks that this is making us "safer" is indeed a victim.

Sometimes we have to just accept that the experts do know better than us what is logical and rational. It is so awfully easy to criticize good people doing the best job they can, because it annoys us, but being responsible for keeping us safe is serious business, and taking cheap pot-shots at them is unfair. I think these folks deserve more respect than that.
:thanks:

Just remember that AstroGlide - which is a personal lubricant - has other uses.

Jeff Foxworthy in his comedy act talks about putting it on the bird feeder pole so the squirrels cant climb up. Cant remember what else and I dont have the CD with me right now. Its funny stuff.

Now that's funny!!! :rotfl2:
Well, at least those darn terrorists aren't smart enough to simply put their "toothpaste" and "suntan lotion" in their pockets. Mine never gets detected by the "explosives" or "metal" detector. :rotfl:

Nice to see someone stand up for those who have to deal with the sometimes belligerent entitled flying public. Most travelers are patient and cooperative, but every so often you encounter one who acts no better than a 4 yr old in tantrum mode. If a person is still around and able to complain to anyone who will listen or read... then it's working. If having mascara within 4 feet of your person at all times is inherently necessary to your happiness, then by all means, DRIVE!

Um, hello. Did you bother to read the portion of this thread that I quoted above my remark before you got all high and mighty and condescending toward me? No, I didn't think so.

If you had, you would have noted that my remark "Thanks for taking all the fun out of my travel plans" was a joke directed toward NotUrsula (NOT the TSA, baggage screeners, etc.) for pointing out that "personal lubricant" probably had less entertaining purposes than most of us were thinking. It was in no way any sort of judgement about any of the things you rattled on about. But, thanks for the public service announcement anyway.

You think this nonsense is TO KEEP US SAFE? I don't think so! It's meant to calm our nerves.

The investigation in London started A YEAR AGO. After following these guys for six months, don't you think they would have banned toothpaste right away if they thought this was really a threat? NO, they wait until THE STORY BREAKS ON THE NEWS.

The latest nonsense is their answer to "how do we calm their nerves and keep them flying?" The new regulations didn't come out until the day that the story broke because ALL IT IS is something to help make us less fearful. It is not to keep us safer. Having Betty White and Estelle Getty check their preparation H does not a safer airplane make!!!

A terrorist can swallow a balloon full of explosives and then head for the airplane restroom for a good poop and and a nice big explosion, he doesn't have to carry his stuff onboard in a baby bottle. A suicide bomber does not worry about hiding his bomb in a baby bottle. It's all a big show and we fall for it hook line & sinker.

There was an article in USA Today on Thursday saying that there are concerns that watching out for all these new items and a 20% increase in checked luggage may be distracting screeners from looking for the items that are more likely to bring down a plane. That's scary.

I flew Northwest this week and on both flights a pilot or flight attendent got on carrying a liquid beverage. Who is to say someone couldn't have handed them something explosive?

I fly weekly and only once since this started did a see a "spot check" at a gate. I was chosen and my bag was given about the same scruitiny that the WDW gate security gives (not very thorough). I also had a bag check on Wednesday at MSP security because I mistakenly left a half bottle of water in my carryon bag. He did a swabbing of the handle for explosives and just glanced in the bag.

I'm all for security but I have concerns about placing a high priority on items like mascara perhaps at the expense of something more dangerous.

I've read the whole thread. I didn't "get all high and mighty and condescending." I'd appreciate it if you not make such erroneous statements about my opinions, regardless of whether or not you agree with them. Let's keep this thread on-topic, please.

And I'd appreciate if you didn't quote my post in your reply if your reply isn't a direct response to what I said. :confused3

You certainly seemed to be accusing me of "taking pot shots" at the people who make the rules, when I was simply joking with NotUrsula.
