Why can I get a cash discount on 3 day trip but individually those days aren't available on discount

Day 1, 2, and 3 together - AVAILABLE.

How? I figured I'd book all 3 days on cash...and then cancel 3rd day if/when points stay became available. They stated its not possible. If I cancel 1 day... I have to cancel entire reservation.

I'm so confused.... why is this?

There was a thread on the resort boards, or free dining, with regard to this. It was something along the lines of Disney wanting people to stay longer.

You mean thru DVC member service? I don't think that should be done that way. If thru CRO it's not uncommon for hotels to require minimum stays especially during certain times of the year and Disney has done that for a long time from my observations.

Nope, this was thru MS. They specifically told me they can only offer me cash for all 3 days. But individually, it couldn't be discounted.

Perhaps it has something to do with where that room inventory originally came from. For instance, if they were breakage inventory, the discount would likely be available, as those are by definition DVC controlled rooms that were simply not rented on points at 60 days, even if turned over for cash reservations. If they were DVD inventory (ie rooms available because a resort is still partly owned by the developer and not fully sold) or if they were rooms owned by Disney as part of retained point inventory (ie released maintenance rooms) the discount may or may not be available.

It's a greedy Disney thing.

Just tried to make an ADR for 2 people and nothing is available at a certain restaurant no matter which day or time I check. Increase the people count to 4 and there are several dates and time available.

That likely means that there are no two-tops available. The dystem generally won't book a party of two onto a four-top. And strangely, i'vehad better success trying to book 2 people ADRs using the phone Disney experience app, rather than the regular computer version. Weird.

Back to that greed thing. At any other resturant in the world, two would be seated at a 4-top, but Disney won't. Why? Because 4 will come and they pay twice as much.

I had heard about the discounted rooms at CRO requiring a minimum number of nights, but I did not know that DVC now requires it as well for the discounted rooms. We might pay cash for a single night, but three is very doubtful. I am pretty sure we would go with a regular hotel Disney hotel for the single night and let DVC have the empty rooms.

They got wise to the method of booking the longer stay to get the discount and then dropping nights. From what has been posted on the resorts board, they will only allow nights to be dropped if there is current availability for the new dates.

Except there isn't a larger discount with the DVC cash room? CRO has often implemented minimum stays for years.

Because revenue accounting has decided that the need to book 3 nights minimum.

I don't see anything wrong with requiring a minimum stay in return for a discount. And there isn't anything wrong with feeling disappointed when you can't get a discount for staying less than the minimum.

Isn't is just as greedy to want a discount (& pay less) as it is to deny one (to make more money)?

I don't disagree for CRO but it still just seems inappropriate for the DVC discount which for one thing I look at as a way to fill in when you don't have enough points, or when a night isn't available on points because DVC has pulled it to cash inventory.

Yes I agree. It's as if they have taken away yet another perk :-(

i had the same type of thing happen to me. i was trying to book an ADR for one person and nothing was available, but when i looked for a party of 2, several times were suddenly open. same size table but solo diners were not welcome.

It has been that way for many years. I frequently travel solo, and frequently can get a table for 1. But when I can't, I always try 2, and can almost always find a table. As you said, same size table. Someone here on the DIS told me about that trick about 8 years ago or so.

Happens all the time, just book for 3. You cant help it if one person gets sick and cant come
