Why buy multiple resorts?

I think I know the answer (11 month priority booking) - I just can't figure out the benefit:

(I'll just pull some random numbers here without checking the point charts).

So lets say I buy 300 points at the Beach Club and then buy a second contract of 100 points at BLT.

Now lets say I want to spend a week at BLT.

I can make a reservation at BLT at the 11 month mark - but only for a room that will cost me 100 points for a week (which would not be big enough).

Then - at the seven month mark - I can transfer my Beach Club points to BLT and I'll then have enough points to get the right size room - PROVIDED it is available at the 7 month mark.

Is this any different than buying 400 points at BCV - and then calling BLT at the 7 month mark to reserve the room we would need? Either way - you cannot reserve the correct size room until the 7 month mark?

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance to all who can help - these boards are invaluable!

Don't forget that with banking and borrowing, your 100 points at BLT turns into a 300-point vacation once every three years or a 200-point vacation once every other year.

Well, if you own 100 points at BLT, you can reserve a few nights there at the 11 month mark so you would have at least a few nights in the room that you want.

I think that the key to owning more than one resort is having enough points to book what you want at the 11 month mark, either every year, or using banking/borrowing as previously mentioned.

We had points at VWL and BLT at one point, but only 50 of them were at VWL. More than enough for 1 night, but not enough for 2 so we sold and now own everything at BLT.

I do the banking method. I have 3 homes and didn't use my BWV points last year and banked them. So in 2011 I planned 2 long trips at BWV to use my 320 BWV points at the 11 month window for each trip. Same for my little 100 pt contract at BLT. Didn't use the points the first year and the second year I booked 4 nights in a 2 bedroom for 140 points and will bank the 60 points this year, so in 2011 when I get my new points (April), I'll start out with 160 BLT points. Next year I'll have a ton of SSR points left over, but I'm planning on staying at OKW for the entire month of January 2012, so will be using 300+ for that trip.

Did want to mention, while my largest contract is with SSR, I purchased my share in BWV and BLT to use to get standard rooms and to stretch my points. Often you need that 11 month window to get standard rooms at these locations, especially for a longer trip as we like to go for 2 weeks in May and 2 weeks in October.

We don't want to stay the whole time at one location, we would feel like we were missing out.
We have enough points at both resorts and enjoy splitting our stay. We usually stay 10-12 days in a 2bdrm, so it works out great for us.
We love AKV for the experience and proximity to AK.
We like BCV for proximity to two parks, the boardwalk, and SAB.

have 60 at VWL, 50 at BWV. my home resort is blt 170.

for bwv it is till enough for 5 days in a studio in adventure.

for vwl it is not. that say have bank some of my vwl points for next year.
will go in Dec for vwl and Oct for bwv.

with banking and borrowing have enough to do a studio every other year if I want a 1-bedroom it would be every 3rd year.

We like to have points at different resorts because we love so many of the resorts and like to be able to stay where we want, when we want.

Am I missing something?

as stated, your 100 BLT pts mean you can book BLT at 11 months out with up to 100 banked BLT pts + 100 current BLT pts + 100 borrowed BLT pts = 300 pts every third year.

some people do that and bank their BCV pts the year they stay at BLT.

also, some people are young and own at BCV but wanted the longer expiration of the BLT contract when they decided to add-on.

some people also like the lower annual dues at BLT.

but the 11 month window is probably the main thing...true...

I know some who have purchased points in resorts desirable to others either to share with friends or rent/trade--but they only use their favorite home resort! Such renting can help you to finance your visit "home!"

I like having 2 resorts because I like staying at both of those resorts! We love staying at VWL for the Christmas holidays, and we love AKV to use with the family because the kids think the animals are so cool!!! I mean how many times do you hear people saying they saw an ostrich lay an egg right outside their room?!?! The only other resort I would love to own some day is OKW because that is our 3rd favorite resort. Gotta love the peace and tranquility of that resort!

We like to have points at different resorts because we love so many of the resorts and like to be able to stay where we want, when we want.

We own at BCV, AKV & HHI and each one of these resorts gives us a different type of vacation.

BCV / when staying there we have the best of both worlds. Staying within walking distance of 2 theme parks or doing no parks at all and just enjoy the boardwalk area and SAB!

AKV / we get to pretend we are on a luxurius African safari

HHI / is beach and just a hr drive from historical Savannah, GA for site seeing

Did I mention...I LOVE my DVC!!!:cheer2:
