Why Bother?!!? - A Shopping Vent

I think a manager should have at least known that -- maybe not the store manager but whoever is in charge of the game department -- when I worked at Barnes and Noble we always had a heads up of the new releases and sale items a few days before -- after all, WE had to put up the signage etc.

FYI, as of 6 a.m. the game is still not avail at CC but Best Buy has it for $20... Can you believe the PS3 version is $60????

Meijers had some reversable blankets on sale that my sister asked me to go get (Thanksgiving Day). However, once there three different employees said this specific store never sold them. :(

In the ad, tho, they covered their butt saying that not all stores carried this sale item and also because it was such a good sale there were no rainchecks. I'd love to know which stores' of theirs even carried them!?! :confused3

Probably not the case here, but when stores only buy a very limited number of something they advertise at a very low price, and they sell out quickly, I think once they can get you into the store, they figure chances are pretty good you will buy something else, usually at a higher price. Sneaky marketing, or clever, depending on how you look at it.

That's called bait and switch--or a very very very very close cousin of bait and switch.

Not in this case for the OP as far as the HS musical dvd goes .

I think it was in reference to another poster whom I quoted above.

You can't advertise an item and then say oopsy my bad..we don't have it--how about this instead. That is bait and switch.

probably why some states have additional laws that you cannot advertise something that you don't even have in stock (forgot who posted that). 6 months lead time woudln't be an excuse.

For a future release item such as the DVD---not the same thing.

Someone referred to "clever marketing" of not having too much of an item and then trying to get them into the store and sell them something else..that is bait and switch.

Very annoying, and I don't see how they can get away with it. Wouldn't that be false advertising? :confused3

A couple months ago when the SIMS Family Fun Stuff came out I went to Target the day it was supposed to be out. It wasn't out so I asked someone and she said it probably wouldn't come in until their UPS shipment came in around 2:00 p.m. :furious:

I felt they should have printed that in the ad under the picture "available after 2:00 p.m" or something.

As it was I didn't want to drive home, then drive back up, so I had to kill a few hours waiting. :(

Taught me to call the store first from then on! Like when the SIMS Pets came out, I called Wal-Mart to see if they had it. Didn't want to drive there and not get it. They had ONE left so I asked him to hold it for me and he did.
