Anyone have friends like this?

Why are you always going to Disney?

Why is everything in your house Disney?

Don’t you have any other interests than Disney?

Disney is for kids. You’re almost 30, grow up!

Bla bla bla, bla bla bla.

I feel that most people associate Disney as going to your local theme park and can't understand why you want to go on vacation there. They do not understand that Disney is NOT a theme park and that you get totally absorbed in the experience and are removed from everyday life. I have never visited a theme park that does this. Disney does EVERYTHING so much better than anyone else even tries to and that is what sets them apart from anything else. Their themes and even music evoke emotion from you which is not duplicated anywhere else. It is so easy to want to experierience that feeling nonstop and that is where Disney has cornered the market. It will make you cry with emotion during wishes or when watching your childrens faces experiencing the parades with the characters. You have to experience it to understand and to your your friends who have not, feel sorry for them and be thankful you have had the opportunity and know the secret of WDW.:thumbsup2

ITA, DisneyNutz.

I'm fortunate to I have one friend who has been as Disney crazy as I am. He and his family went once every year or two from the seventies through 2004. He's since branched out and decided to spend time in Hawaii, Scotland, and other places, but at least he understands why I want to be in Disney World...oh, every single day!

The rest of my friends and coworkers simply don't understand. The frustrating thing is that it's nearly impossible to explain to those who haven't been there, and even more difficult to explain to those who stayed off-site, spent a couple of days in the parks, and found it to be less than magical.

So I don't bother trying any more.

It's just one of those things. It's always hard to explain one's passions to others. And skeptics can always deconstruct anything and make it seem completely absurd to enjoy it. Take spectator sports, for instance. Most people love their local football team. But why? Its players are almost never from the local area. Coaches, players, and even owners come and go. What exactly are sports nuts enamored of? A team logo? Why should anyone care whether a given random and always changing collection of athletes bests another random and always changing collection of atheletes?

Besides, wouldn't you rather actually play the sport than watch other people play it? How boring is that?!?

:) See? It's easy to make anyone's passion seem silly. I say, live and let live. I'll grant my friends their stupid obsessions, if they'll grant me mine. :rotfl:

Sadly yes. This is what we say "Go there and you'll know why!"

The reason I go is because my dad has always made us go. I grew up with Disney. And I loved doing it!

Thankfully my family AND our best friends are Disney fanatics too! LOL In fact, we are going with my best friend and her family on this trip....just 11 days baby!

my mom gets me thankfully...DH didn't understand for quite some time..I used to take trips with my mom and my DS and DH would stay home...We had an adult only trip this past Sept and he now "gets it". My best friend didn't understand my insane obsession, but is going with us this fall to experience WDW and all its glory...Hopefully she'll fall in love and I'll have a new Disney buddy at home!

None of my friends, family or co-workers understand. They all question/lecture me on going to WDW again and again, so now I just don't talk about it anymore. Sometimes I feel like I'm doing something wrong, sneaking around behind everyone's back planning WDW trips, but then I found the DIS boards full of friends who understand my WDW passion.

It is not for fun or even a passion. By the time you come to the DIS boards it is to late. You have an addiction. The only way to face your addiction is to accept the fact you have a problem.
Now please stand up...and say the following...
Hi, I'm _______, and I am a Disneyoholic!

Now we need to come up with a 12 step program...I guess they could be the 12 months of the year since there is no bad time of year to go to Disney!

I don't think that everyone realizes that EVERY trip to Disney is different. I don't see the same things everytime & even when I do, going with different people gives it a different perspective. Believe me, I have heard more than once, "You are going AGAIN?" Yep. That's right!!!

This is why I am embarrassed to tell people that we are going in May & Sept, even though one is with my mom, sister & neice and the other with DH. I have a few friends who understand, but most don't!

No one in my family understands it either. I love going because, for a while, you get to be the child within you and not worry about what's going on anywhere but right there at WDW. It is the easiest vacation to plan so to doing all of the work yourself! I love that everything is convenient and most everyone is friendly and polite. I always seems to have more fun than my DS 17. Our last trip was 8/06 and included a 3 day cruise - fantastic! Done as only Disney can do.

My girlfriend said to me...."Why are you going to Disney again....I mean you just went last year?" :snooty: My family doesn't understand either. Oh well....I'm having fun....who cares if they dont understand right???

Our obsession started from the first time we drove into the "world". No one understands, and so we blame our kids to the "non-believers". They are just as crazy about wdw as we are or vice versa lol. I don't know what excuse we will use when we start taking trips without them.

The first time I went to WDW was in 2000 and I thought it would be a once-in-a-lifetime trip! HA! HA! Now I want to go all the time and luckily I have a couple of friends who are just as Disney crazy as me! I do understand about having people in your life that don't understand the "need" to go to WDW. I don't even tell people at work anymore - I got tired of all the comments. I don't say anything about them going to Mexico every year or skiing every year - why should they care that I go to WDW every year!! :confused3

Thank goodness for the Dis board - it helps to hear from others that are Disney aholics!! :thumbsup2

i have the same problem too...nobody really understands exept for my parents and my DH, since i moved to florida they keep urging me to get an anual pass (just graduated so the money is just not available right now), but all my coworkers think that i am completly insane. for christmas we had a secret santa thing and we each had to fill out a card with 3 things that we wanted under $20 well i put disney movies, then someone was like dont you like anything else? then i get "when are you going to stop believing in all this fairytale nonsense?" i just ignore it....

My family and I love WDW, and I do not feel the need to justify why we choose to spend some of our vacations at WDW. We have family and friends that do not understand our passion for WDW, and that is their problem. We also have friends and family that think WDW is one of the greatest places and can not wait to join us on our future trips. :cloud9:

Everyone has their obsessions. It’s better to be addicted to Disney, than say, drugs. I wasn’t always this way about Disney. Now I am Disney crazy! Having Disney in my life makes me feel good. I don’t know what it is. Perhaps it’s the innocence, the youthful feeling it instills, the imagination it evokes, or perhaps a mixture of all of it. The people that share my passion always seem friendly too. A good example of this is the Dis.
