why are they making mk emh earlier from 7-8am rather than 8-9am?

This is what i saw for this month. Why are they doing this? and then mk is open for everyone from 9am-1am. I don't like this bc you have to get up even earlier to get the emh and everyone is able to stay until 1am. In a way it's less incentive to stay on property than in yrs past. I will still do it but not everyone will. Is it bc attendance is up? thoughts....

I am pretty sure when the EMH are from 7:00am-8:0am it is because the park is opening for everyone at 8:00am instead of 9:00am. EMH are usually either 1 hour early in the morning or up to 3 hours later in the evening. My guess as to an earlier opening this time of year is for increased attendance for the spring break and Easter crowds.

Not sure what you mean.

When the park opens at 8 for the public, EMH starts at 7. When the park opens at 9, EMH starts at 8.

It is never a 7 EMH with a 9 opening.

If the MK is open 8-1, you know it will be PACKED that day!

goodnight thats too early! We are rope drop people and that is pushing it with our kids.

Having done the Easter week early EMH before, I can tell you it's surreal. When you walk up it is black outside, with the buildings all lit up. I have an amazing photo of my DH and kids walking up main street towards the castle just as the sun is rising. Yes, it is EARLY! As in, it hurts it's so early. Lol. But we do have some good memories from it.

I think the information you are looking at is incorrect or out-of-date. If EMH is at 7:00a, MK will open at 8:00a.

I get your point how it's sort of a takeaway for onsite customers if you have to wake up at dark o'clock in the morning to get the EMH.

We did this exact week in 2012 and we had so much fun, but we mostly did the late EMH hours at MK.

Welcome to visiting Disney during one of the busiest weeks of the entire year! We did Easter week 2 years ago and took full advantage of the 7 am EMH a few days during our trip and got tons done before the crush of people arrived. Its not just to keep the lines down in the park...they need to spread out the arrivals for the busses, parking lots, trams, boats, monorails, ticket windows, turnstiles, bag check, etc.

what i meant was mk has an emh of 7-8am instead of 8-9 am for today. and when we go in summer i have never seen it open for emh from 7-8am. it's always been 8-9am.

and maybe i have just never noticed emh for other times of yr until now.

To the OP, EMH beginning at 7 AM has been very common for several years during the very busiest times of the year, like Easter and Christmas, and maybe a few other select days.

This is a perfect example of something that some people love and other people don't. Many of us who often travel at those busy times absolutely love those early openings because they give us a chance to do all of the major attractions in the park in the first 3 hours and then enjoy other things, or leave the park completely, when it gets real crowded.

The fact that a lot of people are simply not willing to get up and out while it's still dark is precisely what makes it so great for those who do it. My daughters and I plan to be there at 7 AM next Sunday, and we are looking forward to it as one of the highlights of our trip.

And yes, when EMH is at 7, the regular opening is always at 8 but, because even that is too early for a lot of people, the park doesn't get that crowded until about 10 or 11.

The weeks before and after Easter usually see the general park opening time moved from 9 am to 8 am in AK, MK and DHS. So, if you are onsite during that time, the morning EMH will be 7am for all the parks except Epcot. I think this also happens during Christmas week and MK has opened early during presidents week in the past. I don't think they do it in the summer because, while it does get busy, it's not quite as crowded. The crowds are spread out over a 2 month period instead of being concentrated in the same one or two week span. If you don't want to go that early, choose a non EMH park and get there at 7:20. The onsite guests will generally be heading to the EMH park and a vast majority of off site guests will simply not know about or not be willing to get up in time for the 8 am open. That's what I'll be doing next week and it'll make touring during the holiday week much, much easier!

They also do this around Independence Day and Christmas.

Our trips always fall during the 7 a.m. EMH. We catch the first bud of the day, in the dark, to MK and are usually around to see the First Family selected by a CM. A couple of shots from last trip's sadistically early rope drop fun:

I shot this (moving) as we were departing the bus at the MK, so figure 6:00-ish when we were getting on at POFQ

That's my group, far left, knowing all the turnstiles open at the same time.
There's the rest of our bus and another one who got to MK first, lining up like sheep on the right turnstiles.
And there's the CM walking towards the family with two little boys to ask them to be FF.
Slightly foggy and damp, no?

This is what the castle looked like walking down Main Street as we entered:

It's actually a lot of fun, if you have a crew who can smile that early in the AM!

I think it is added incentive to be at a Monorail resort. We own at BLT and being able to walk to MK is the ONLY way we could get 3 boys (under age 6) out of the room in time for rope drop. if you are staying at Y&B or Boardwalk...you need to leave your resort before 6:30am to get there at rope drop

Yes, if you have not gone during Christmas or Easter you would not notice. This is common on the busiest weeks of the year. Don't tell anyone though because it is the best time to tour.

that last pic of castle is so neat! and it took me a min to realize same family in both pictures. beautiful family!

that makes sense with the monorail resorts.

Our normal day starts at 5:30 am so these early EMH are perfect for us!

well, our normal day starts quite a bit later. we do good to do emh from 8-9am. but bc its so blasted hot during summer and much less crowded we manage to do it. and always so glad we did once we're there. it's amazing how many people don't know about emh! we love the night emh's too.
