Why are some of the close hotels so cheap?

Namely, Desert Inn and Suites and Anaheim Plaza Hotel. It seems like these are priced so much lower than other nearby hotels. It seems like they would charge more, just because they can. I don't get it. Why do you think prices of basic hotels vary so much?

You get what you pay for (most of the time) and some of the really close hotels are really motel-like and are not nice at all. Anaheim Plaza is not *that* close to DL, you can definitely walk, but it may take you 15-20 min. Check out the reviews on here and see what is in your budget.

Because that is what they are. Read the reviews at www.tripadvisor.com to get a feel of what they offer.

Both those places are in pretty bad need of refurbishment (new beds, carpet, furniture, etc.). They are just older and have been used a ton without the same refurb as the other motels nearby that charge more.

on the other hand, there are some that have been recently refurbished, that are still really cheap. super 8 for instance. it's in walking distance (10 minutes maybe?), is literally a one minute drive to the mickey and friends parking structure, and although it used to be too icky to stay at, it was recently completely redone, and the interiors of the rooms are brand new. we tried it out in september because we were only staying one night in anaheim (when we stay longer we stay somewhere nicer), and we knew we'd only be there for a few hours to do nothing but sleep. it was super clean, very comfortable, and less than $60 a night!! so, while i agree that many of the budget-priced motels in the disneyland area are likely not places you'd be very comfortable at (dirty carpet, moldy smelling rooms, etc.), clearly there are some that are renovating and really cleaning up their acts while keeping prices super low.

Desert Inn and Suites has the Kindest People working there! And they have spruced up the rooms!

One of the other reasons it is cheaper is it is Not a disney good nieghbor hotel which really jacks up the prices!!

Could you please tell me if the Super 8 is the one below. Looking for an inexpensive hotel in the area.

Super 8 Anaheim/Disneyland Drive
915 S. Disneyland Drive
I-5 Exit Ball Road

It never dawned on me that the "good neighbor" thing would increase the price. Good to know.

We stayed at Desert Inn in 2007. We were happy with it. If you're planning on using the pool ...it's indoors and very noisy. We never base our hotel choice on the pool. We live in California and swim most of the summer anyway. I'd rather be in the park. Basic continental breakfast. There is only one elevator and sometimes you're waiting awhile. (It's not long though). Our room was pretty far back and sometimes I felt nervous coming back late at night from the park. I'm probably just a scaredy cat though. Enjoy your trip.

I also wondered this about the Desert Inn and Suites. I called Disney though and when I asked for ressies at the Desert Inn...it's not on their "Good Neighbour" list. But on the hotel website it is, I find that odd.

I just don't want to regret the hotel choice lol, we have 4 kids ages 11 to 2 so i dont think the hot breakfast at homewood would matter to much but as they are just renovated they look awsome.
We have never been to disneyland or pretty much on a vacation lol.
i love the fact that desert inn is across the street, and that we don't have to travel but then again i love the fact that homewood suites has the doors inside and not like a motel and also that there breakfast is early and that it has a full size fridge.
I don't know lol, i still have time to decide though.

I'm sure the Crowne Plaza will be nice enough for the nine hours or so that we'll actually be there.

Thank you

I know some will disagree with me here but to me you're in DISNEYLAND and spending your time in the park, not the room. I've never had a huge desire to stay onsite for that reason. I would rather extend our stay than pay hundreds of dollars on a room. Don't get me wrong....one day I would like to stay at DLH or especially the GC but right now it just doesn't do anything for me. If you've never been do DL you're going to have a great time no matter where you stay!!!! And yes Desert Inn is more of the "motel" feel...exterior halls etc, but the grounds are nice and the room was clean. Dated yes, but ours was clean and that's the one thing I'm the PICKIEST about. :)

clean is the main thing lol. How is the continental breakfast is it enought to do you for the morning? and do you know what time it is in teh morning?
i am not picky when it comes for a hotel and i know we won't be spening tons of time there except on the weekend as we will come back for a nap
Do you know if the hotel comes with the disney channel , sons request lol
I dont like the fact that the hotel charges the credit card $1.00 now and then the first night 2 days before , but i am not sure f this the standard procedure.

I don't know, Desert Inn can get a bit pricy during the holidays. While not super expensve $200+ for a C-1 is high. I have yet to figure out why Anaheim Plaza is sooo cheap though.

The contintental breakfast is nothing exciting but it's enough to hold you over for awhile. It's cereal, fruit, juices, coffee, individually wrapped pastries and my DBF said they had toast too. (I just don't remember that). As for the time....I think it started at 7. Be sure to get down there early. Some people come and grab a bunch to take back up to their room. And YES..they did have the Disney Channel so your son will be happy. :) I don't remember how they charged our card, but I do know they charged it before we got there. I don't remember if it was the first few days or not. I just remember I was shocked that when we made our ressies with HOJO last year they were not charging our card until after our stay. Each place is different I guess.

Thank you so much my son will be so happy lol.
Thanks for the tips to get to the breakfast room early it might be easier to just take it back to the room with the 4 kids.
I know we dont need to be stuffed for breakfast as the kids will wan to go on the rides as soon as we get there and i don't need no kids puking lol. I also will want to try so many things ( food wise) so need to keep bellys empty lol.
Thanks again
