Why are ressies so hard to get?

Try some of the resturants in the hotels. It does mean leaving the park but they are generally easier to book and some of the nicer meals on property. Sometimes they are just a monarail ride away. Also keep trying especially at resturants such as California Grill where you have to put up a credit card people do cancel. Good Luck.

Again, it depends on the kind of person you are. I, on the other hand, am the type who likes to know what I'm doing, what to expect, etc. We aren't park commandos so we don't need to worry about "will we make this reservation", etc etc. The relaxing and dining is important to us, just as much as seeing the Mouse. Plus planning far in advance is a kick for us.

Oh, and honestly IMO, if you're checking obsessively to see if Le Cellier is open...you have bigger problems than not being able to get into Le Cellier. I can see checking now and then to see if something's opened up, but nothing should be that all-encompassingly important.

To each their own. :)

I completely understand when you don't have a car and you have booked the DDP.... you really do have to play the game. My comment wasn't to point fingers at anyone but Disney because in all honestly, what can a guest really do if that's the way they have it set up. Either you play the game or you get skinned.

Still doesn't stop me from feeling sorry for those who aren't aware they need to book ahead or simply decide they want to try a new restaurant at WDW only to realize they don't have that option once they get there.

I agree that the resort restaurants can be a great alternative (although some of those can get booked well in advance, like for instance, Boatwrights... who-da thunk it?)

Here are a list of resort restaurants we generally have no problem getting into with anywhere from a minimal wait to no wait at all...

Kona Kafe (sometimes a wait, but generally no longer than 30 minutes and there is lots to look at while you wait).

The Pepper Market at CSR - We've never had a wait of any kind here no matter what time of day and they have some awesome choices and a nice atmosphere.

Beaches & Cream (Beach Club) - Yep, you'll probably encounter a wait if it's dinner time, lunch is usually not quite as bad, but they accept walk-ups and people don't usually linger so the tables move fast.

The Fountain (Dolphin Hotel). This is generally never crowded but the food is pretty basic and good for when you just need something to fill the void (ie: kids are over-tired, over hungry and can't wait a second longer for some food).

Trail's End (Fort Wilderness)... Probably one of our favourites. If you can make your way via the Disney buses to this resort, it's well worth the trip. I think you can make ressies here, but they also accept a good number of walk-ups. They have a buffet for breakfast/lunch/dinner and it's slightly less than most of the other WDW buffets. The food is great, the atmosphere is fun, and best of all, before or after dinner it's definitely worth a good look around especially for kids who enjoy the barnyard animals and fishing hole. Very serene and out of the way.

I would never check and re-check to see if I can get a reservation of any kind. If it's not there the first time I try, who gives a darn, it's just a meal for goodness sakes. Besides, I never have understood what all the hype is about "Le Cellier". While they have some decent enough food, although no more than a lot of other places, the restaurant is just too dark and un-cheery for us.

I was simply referring to your earlier comment that people should just "keep checking" because things might open up on any given day.

I know what you mean!!!! I'm trying and calling like 3-4 times a day for 1900 Park Fare or Ohanas :( No luck! I hope you have better luck here is some pixie dust to help. ¤´¨) ºoº .•:*¨¨*:•.ºoº¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) ºoº .•:*¨¨*:•.ºoº

I basically agree with that - about checking over and over. I pick my restaurants, I call at 180 days, I have yet to be shut out of anything. But if I was, I would just pick somewhere else. The food at Disney is just not so great than any one restaurant meal is going to make or break our trip.
