Why are Post Office workers SO rude?

Just went and mailed my Package to POP for arrival on Thursday, I said I wanted 3 day Priorty, and she said: "We can't guarantee it will get there in 3 days." Than, she took it and put it in the back, I paid and left, not have a nice day or anything! WTH?? I am PAYING for 3 day Priorty but you cannot GUARANTEE it will get there? I knew I should have went with UPS!

The post office workers at my post office are the same way ! I am there a few times a week and they always make me feel like I am bothering them

This is why I almost always go with UPS, Fedex, DHL, etc. for any priority mail or anything that has any intrinsic value. They have to compete with each other for my business. While they cannot go as cheap as I want them to be, they at least provide me with better service, better security and better tracking of my mailings. The USPS, of course, has no competition, except for mail-obviating technologies like email, faxes, ACH, etc. They may keep raising the cost of stamps, but the service seems no better to me than it did in the late 70's, before all this explosion in other ways to ship things.

And believe me it may not be there in 3 days. TWICE I mailed something to my Mom 3 day, she got both at least 5 days later.

That's why I don't send priority since they won't guarantee it. When I mailed the last package the lady tried to talk me into priority. Of course it cost more and I then asked if it was guaranteed (knowing it wasn't). I didn't send priority and the package got there fast. At least the lady I encountered was polite--there's no excuse for rudeness!

Oh, great, this Package is going 3.5 hours away! With my luck, I am sure POP won't receive it at all! Yes, she acted like I was Bothering her in some way, I would be THRILLED to work at the Post office making the Big Bucks they make!

Well, in that case it may be there. My Mom is 900 miles from me. She and I both agreed to go regular mail from here on out.

The only time I use Fed Ex or UPS is around the holidays and I always choose UPS. I send something to her ground and she gets it usually in 2-3 days. Go figure!

It's pretty horrible isn't it. When she said she couldn't guarantee it, I would have said, UPS Can and asked her for the package back.

The Mokena Illinois post office is so horrible they go through new postmasters like twice to three times a year. These new postmasters must have an awfully hard time over there because it seems they run screaming from the place in six months.

They are the rudest, most ill mannered people I have had the misfortune of doing business with. I take most of my stuff to UPS whenever possible!

Priority Mail is not a "certain day" guaranteed type of delivery. It's a little speedier than 1st Class and is generally a 2-4 day delivery. If you want a guaranteed delivery you should use their Express Mail or go over to Fed Ex. I send a lot of parcels and for the money I think the Post Office is just fine and I guess I'm in the minority but the workers at my Post Office are always courteous, friendly, and helpful.

Wish I lived there! Miami is FULL of rude people.

It's that way because it's a monopoly and there is nothing you can do about it. Plus, if the employee is a PITA, what's going to happen to them? Nothing. Oh well. This is why I pay as many bills as possible online and FedEx whenever feasible.

me too. there are 3 different post offices that i visit frequently and everyone there is helpful. one of the workers near the post office near my office even knows me by name and jokes around with me since i am in there so much.

i prefer usps because i have had major problems with fedex and ups. good thing we all have choices.

The postal workers at the office near my house are very nice. I don't really blame them for the slowness of the system, because they have no real control over that.

I do think that that type of job lends itself to rudeness, because some folks who are employed there know they have to go a pretty far distance to get fired. Once you get a job with the post office, your job is pretty well guaranteed unless you kill someone. People who are prone to be nasty anyway, if they get a job like, they can pretty much let loose without fear of reprisal, which is too bad.

The workers at the little branch in my town are very nice and friendly. Years ago, when I lived in Baltimore, I used to go to the downtown post office sometimes and those were the rudest, most unhelpful people I've ever seen. Hopefully, they've gotten better employees since I've moved away.

Same here. The two local post offices have wonderful workers. They smile and are pleasant - even the lady that had to do passports for 4 of us was pleasant.
Now, if I go into the "city" post office, they are rude. I actaully had one worker there look at my return address and nastily ask me "why don't you use the Mtown post office. It's brand new & they aren't as busy." I politely replied that I was picking my kids up at school a BLOCK from where we were standing and that when I can I do perfer the Mtown post office as the people are always so pleasant.

I agree.

I haven't really encountered rude employees at our Post Office. However, while they aren't rude, some are on the cranky/sour side.

Guess I'm lucky too. Our USPS people are indifferant at worst (not rude, but not upbeat and happy, either), and the service is very fast. I've mailed a B-day card to my Grandma who lives 45 minutes away and she'll get it the very next day! It's 2 to 3 days for almost everything else, even the 2-3 Priority is just that, 2 or 3 days!
