Interesting that no one has answered that.

Sorry that didn't respond in your time, I was busy with my family...

Can you tell me a little about what a Wiccan believes so I can have a better understanding of it?

(more info there than I feel like writing out on this thread)

To summarize my beliefs, there a multiple Gods and Goddesses for different things, and different parts of life. There is no "sin", however anything you do comes back to you three times. We stronly believe in doing no harm to others and feel a strong connection to nature and the earth around us.

We used to do ouija boards and seonces (sp) when we were kids. I don't remember it ever working! I guess I'm too much of a realist? :confused3 It was always a lot of fun, though! :cool1:

I didn't want to register on that site, so didn't get all the aswers I was looking for, so if you could help me out here:

Do you believe there is one God that created the earth and all in it?
You believe in many gods? How many?
Do you cast spells on people, or curses?
Do you interact with and contact the spirit world?
The 3x thing-so you believe if you do something good, you will get good repaid to you 3x? And if you do something bad, you will be repaid with bad 3x?
Do you worship the devil? Go to the church of Satan? Give money to it?
Do you practice magic?
Do you pray? Who to?
Do you have a special handbook?
Do you hate Christians?

He asked me a question, I want to know the facts before I answer him. I thought that was being considerate. Should I have answered when I am ignorant to the Wiccan beliefs? I think not. I was showing respect by getting the answers so I don't make a quick uneducated decision......
I would hope others would do the same for me...... find out why I believe why I do before they judge me........

Is that not what you are doing on all the other threads Jenny, educating others on your beliefs so as to justify them?......

That was a snarkier post then I intended it to be... But really,Would you have asked a Jew or a Hindu if they worshiped Satan or Hate Christians? Why would you think a Wiccan might worsip Satan in the first place?.

Well,I can tell you the answers are no...

Not Wiccan here but I do know quite a bit about it (one could say I dabble in my quest to embrace the knowledge of the religions of my ancestors). Hopefully the questions were asked out of a desire for knowledge, so that's how they will be answered. You need to bear in mind that Wicca is extremely varied and there's no set answer to your questions. I'm going to answer in generalities based on personal experience and people I know but in reality the only thing that binds the practioners of Wicca together is that they all subscribe to the rule of 3 and to harm none

Do you believe there is one God that created the earth and all in it? Depends on the individual and/or their coven, but most of them believe in a male and female aspect (in other words a god and goddess). Some believe in only a goddess. Some believe in more than one. If you need something a bit more familiar to North Americans as a reference - Wicca is similar to Native American religions in many ways.

You believe in many gods? How many? See above answer. There's many paths in Wicca and many beliefs.

Do you cast spells on people, or curses? Pagans believe in "harm none" and the "rule of three". Spells are prayers with props.

Do you interact with and contact the spirit world? Some do. Some don't. You don't have to be pagan to contact the spirit world.

The 3x thing-so you believe if you do something good, you will get good repaid to you 3x? And if you do something bad, you will be repaid with bad 3x? Yes

Do you worship the devil? Go to the church of Satan? Give money to it? Satanists worship Satan. Most Wiccans don't even believe in the Christian Satan - to even ask that question shows ignorance.

Do you practice magic? Yes they do. Only it's magick and again it's like Christian prayers and blessings, only with props

Do you pray? Who to? Again varied. Usually one has an altar dedicated to a particular deity or several and that's who they honor. Not so much pray in the Judeo-Christian sense. More similar to Hindu.

Do you have a special handbook? Many Wiccans have a book of shadows which is a personal journal of their spiritual path. There's lots of great books about the "Old Ways" and it's a personal preference. There's no Bible if you will. If you are truly interested in educating yourself (which I recommend before passing judgement), I or others can definitely recommend some books to you.
Do you hate Christians? I'm not even going to dignify such an offensive question with an answer

Thanks Crankyshack for your info. I really do know nothing of the Wiccans, that is why I am asking. I wasn't being condescending or mocking.

You say the Wiccans pray with props. What kind of props?

Harm none-does this mean that they do not put 'curses' or 'spells' on people?

3x- so if a Wiccan does something mean to a person, they believe they will have 3 mean things done to them? So on that-if something bad happens to them, do they think that they must have done something bad and are getting 'repaid'?

Worshipping the devil-I honestly didn't know. So you say that they worship the 'gods and goddesses?' Do they believe that there are certain gods for certain things (god of weather, god of safety, god of love etc..)

Magick-what exactly is that? Why does it have a 'k' on it, is it different than magic?

I asked if they hated Christians in a genuine way. I didn't know. I again wasn't being condesending. I (in my unknowing way) thought that Wiccans were like witches, into witchcraft, curses, etc... and thought that they were against God and therefore, would be against Christians.

You know you watch tv, and see things, and I didn't know what the things are that I was watching. I never watched shows like Charmed or Buffy. But even on an episode of Third Watch had stuff on it with spells, curses, satan, vampires, etc... I didn't know what is what.
Now I am getting educated, thank you.

.
Wiccans are witches, but not all witches are Wiccans.

1)You say the Wiccans pray with props. What kind of props?
Herbs, incense, candles, stones, etc..

2)Harm none-does this mean that they do not put 'curses' or 'spells' on people? They don’t curse or put spells on people. Spells are like prayers. They do protection spells, spells for luck, good health, etc…

3)3x- so if a Wiccan does something mean to a person, they believe they will have 3 mean things done to them? So on that-if something bad happens to them, do they think that they must have done something bad and are getting 'repaid'? Depends on the person and how bad it is. If you break a heel, probably not karmic retribution. If your dog dies, someone hits your car, and a family member is rushed to the hospital- yeah they would probably think that. It’s very similar to Christians and whether or not they chalk up a bad day to God’s will.

4) Worshipping the devil-I honestly didn't know. So you say that they worship the 'gods and goddesses?' Do they believe that there are certain gods for certain things (god of weather, god of safety, god of love etc..) Again it depends on the person and the path that they are on. There are god/desses that represent certain things much like Catholics have Saints that have their own particular speciality (have you ever studied mythology? Many of the god/desses that are worship are the god/desses of mythology. Usually they honor the male and female aspect of the higher power. Wicca is the modern version of the ancient religions before Christianity exisited. I really can’t give you the accurate answer you are searching for because it’s so varied. Beliefs are very personal and individual things. Even the word Wicca and Pagan aren’t really the best words to use because there are different paths and belief systems vary based on the path (Norse, Strega, Celtic, druid, Gardnerian, etc…

5) Magick-what exactly is that? Why does it have a 'k' on it, is it different than magic? It’s been spelled Magick for centuries. Aleister Crowley is one famous Witch that made the spelling more mainstream in order to differentiate it from stage magic (hocus pocus pulling the rabbit out of a hat). The two are apples and oranges. As far what it is - Magick is different things to different people. Crowley defined it as "the Science and Art causing Change to occur in conformity with Will." Some see magic as a kind of energy which is throughout the cosmos. Others see it as a psychic tool by which we may influence the material world using symbols and ritual. Many see it as a
means of uniting with the divine, some consider it to be the exercise of will or the manipulation of reality.

6) I asked if they hated Christians in a genuine way. I didn't know. I again wasn't being condesending. I (in my unknowing way) thought that Wiccans were like witches, into witchcraft, curses, etc... and thought that they were against God and therefore, would be against Christians.
You have to understand that Wiccans have existed long before the Judeo-Christian World. They don’t hate God. They don’t hate Christians. If anything they are much more open minded than many Christians about religions and they realize there is no one true path to enlightenment. If anything they have a right to be upset with christians who have persecuted them for centuries and continue to berate them and call them devil worshippers. And Witches aren't necessarily Wiccan. Wicca is the religion. Witches perform spellcraft, which not all Wiccans perform.

You know you watch tv, and see things, and I didn't know what the things are that I was watching. I never watched shows like Charmed or Buffy. But even on an episode of Third Watch had stuff on it with spells, curses, satan, vampires, etc... I didn't know what is what.

The best way to be informed about this is by reading. TV is one of the last places you should expect to get correct information about religions

I personally think that Walmart is closer to the devil than any old Ouija board.

Out of curiousity, if you're that worried about them, shouldn't you be checking all your local stores? Why focus on Walmart?

Because Wal-Mart IS evil!

1)You say the Wiccans pray with props. What kind of props?

Many have altars with candles, herbs, incense etc. All have symbolism in nature. Stones symbolize the earth etc.

2)Harm none-does this mean that they do not put 'curses' or 'spells' on people?

Spells, but only as prayers. As in, a spell for good luck etc. Good Wiccans do not curse people, such as *ahem* the entire Salem police dept. A local prominent Wiccan lost my respect and that of many others in our area when she did that. Not good. I've never known a good Wiccan who cursed someone. This person who cursed the PD is, IMHO, an idiot.

3)3x- so if a Wiccan does something mean to a person, they believe they will have 3 mean things done to them? So on that-if something bad happens to them, do they think that they must have done something bad and are getting 'repaid'?

Depends on the person. I usually don't jump to that conclusion when something bad happens to someone, unless they are known to be a very unpleasant person.

I try focus more on what I do in my own life.

4) Worshipping the devil-I honestly didn't know. So you say that they worship the 'gods and goddesses?' Do they believe that there are certain gods for certain things (god of weather, god of safety, god of love etc..)

Crankyshank summed it up nicely. I tend more towards a general male and female god and goddess, but I've been known to mutter a prayer to an ancient god or goddess depending on the prayer.

Crankyshanks response:
Again it depends on the person and the path that they are on. There are god/desses that represent certain things much like Catholics have Saints that have their own particular speciality (have you ever studied mythology? :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

5) Magick-what exactly is that? Why does it have a 'k' on it, is it different than magic?

The use of spells. Not all Pagans and Wiccans use it. It's been spelled that way for a loooong time. I honestly do not know offhand how long that spelling has been around but I've seen it in old books spelled that way also.

6) I asked if they hated Christians in a genuine way. I didn't know. I again wasn't being condesending. I (in my unknowing way) thought that Wiccans were like witches, into witchcraft, curses, etc... and thought that they were against God and therefore, would be against Christians.

I don't hate Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, Agnostics or anyone in between. I don't judge people based upon their religion as long as they don't judge me based upon mine.

Some Wiccans do call themselves Witches. It's not a negative, evil word to us. It's merely someone who worships the goddess and gods of Pagan religion and worships nature. In past centuries they were thought to be healers, midwives and all other sorts of professions that used herbs and spells to bring comfort to others.

The sort of people, again, who would ever use curses are not Wiccans IMO. I'd equate them with the sort of people who use other religions for evil (ie. terrorists, clinic bombers, people who committ hate crimes etc.). They are merely taking a beautiful and peaceful faith and distorting it into something horrible. The woman I mentioned before who cursed our local PD, did it out of personal spite because she is, well, just a little too high up on herself. As soon as that came out, the rest of the Wiccan community spoke out against her and even did things to raise money to help out the local PD. Whatever this womans reason for doing what she did, it lost her a LOT of respect.

I think if you look hard enough at people who believe in different gods than you, you will find that they are not against you, your god, or anyone else. The only thing I am against is people who treat others with cruelty based upon their religion.

Very interesting to read about your beliefs.

Back to the original question of do I think you are evil?
No! I don't.

I don't think any person is evil. I think people (Jews, Wiccans, Muslims, Christians, etc..) can do evil things.
As long as you don't deliberately do things to hurt other people, you are not evil. And it sounds to me like you don't. You want peace, happiness, and you don't want to see people hurt, from what I am reading about you.

People who I see as evil are people like pedophiles, murderers, molesters, thieves, people who do things to hurt others on purpose. People who go out of their way to hurt others. That is evil...

Thank you for enlightening me on your beliefs. I will respect yours, if you will respect mine. We don't have to agree--just agree to disagree and live in peace with each other.

Unsubscibing..... see ya around! :)
