Why am I so challenged?

I am at a complete loss as to where to begin on setting a signature graphic or other little jazzy things that everyone else is displaying. My signature graphic did work earlier in the year, but now things have changed. Where do you get the graphics from , and most importantly how do you import/attach them? Why do some people have "welcome guest" and some are vets? Does this have anything to do with the number of posts? Please help - I would be ever so grateful!
