I've been scouring the Universal dining scene the past few days and I see just about everyone including Mythos as one of their top spots. After looking at their limited menu I'm curious as to what is so great about this place. The one entree everyone raves over, the blueberry pistachio pork dish won't work for me as I don't care for pork.

If Mythos is not to be missed, I'm hoping someone will shed some light on the menu for me, please:flower3:

Everyone has different tastes. Check the menu see if anything you like is on there. I went and had Mushroom soup and some mushroom pasta. It was ok but oily and I felt sick afterwards because I dont tend to eat foods that are fatty and oily. I would probably eat there again someday the soup was pretty good but those are the only 2 things on menu that interested me.

I'm just hoping that I'm missing something, the place is beautiful and I'd love to eat there. If anyone has a favorite menu item please tell me about it. I'm seeing the tempura sushi appetizer as a possibility and maybe a spinach salad?:confused3

Their rosemary potato bread is worth the trip alone.

I could just have that and their yummy Caesar Salad with shrimp and I'd be very happy.

We just ate there over MLK weekend for the first time. I thought it was good (not as great as other people seem to think).

If you're interested, DH and I both had the onion soup (good but very, very salty), I had the shrimp tempura sushi appetizer as my entree (again good but not sushi at all, the rice had none of the vinegar taste and the whole thing was deep fried) DH had a chicken snadwich ( again good but not that "wow") and dcs had kids meals (pizza and chicken tenders)

We did love the dessert shots-- nice to get a few bites of dessert but not be over stuffed.

Kids had the rice crispie "sushi" and said the the Cali Grill at WDW makes it better.

IMHO it is better than usual park food but I'm not convinced it's the greatest theme park restaurant ever.

YMMV of course:thumbsup2

We really enjoyed our food at Mythos. I've heard that once in a great while they have bad days, but they were really good when we were there. They seem to lean toward Euro/Asian flavors which we really like at our house.

We had the flatbread as an appetizer. It was basically a really crispy pizza crust with pizza type toppings, but more flavorful and less oily. Really yummy. My husband had the Pastabilities and was impressed with the chef's creation. This is a dish that changes depending on what's available and what the chef is inspired to do. It was pasta with fresh veggies and chicken with a tomato compote sauce. Really yummy!

I had been looking forward to the Blueberry and Pistascio pork, but I wasn't in the mood for that when we went. So I had the Pad Thai with peanut sweet and sour sauce with vegetables and chicken (you choose the meat you want). AWESOME! My big complaint with most Americanized sweet and sour sauce is too much sweet, no sour or anything else. The sweet and sour sauce with the Pad Thai was great. It was slightly spicy, very slightly sweet, and very well balanced and flavorful. I wish they had more Thai food on the menu, but this was a very good dish to satisfy an Asian craving.

The menu isn't big, but it's pretty eclectic and certain dishes change frequently. And for the quality of the food, it's very reasonably priced. If nothing on the menu looks appealing to you, try the breads and appetizers and a dessert (all delicious) and take a lot of pictures. The ambiance is wonderful and worth experiencing. Make sure you walk around the back patio, too. Great photo ops there!

limited menus r a good thing imo, as long as what they do offer is extraordinary & @ mythos it is:thumbsup2

combine it with professional waitstaff, a visual wow of a setting...hard to imagine u r in a theme park

ps i luv the onion soup, don't care for the flatbread pizza offerings

Great suggestions, keep them coming. I'm thinking of making this a light lunch stop one day!

I don't know what's on the menu now but I've had GREAT seafood there. Fantastic scallops and the Corvina was heaven!
I also like the Cowboy sandwich. Then there is always the warm gooey chocolate banana cake!!
Their risotto is also wonderful.

3 of us had shrimp w/cocktail sauce for appetizers. Really good, large shrimp.

3 of us had filet mignon with mashed potates/and mushrooms (if you don't like mushrooms you could still enjoy the potatoes--had to search for the mushroom and it wasn't overpowering the potato flavor) 1 had salmon All yummy. Prices were VERY reasonable $15-17 for those items.

but what would make us go back there was the flourless chocolate cake drizzled in a caramel sauce and a cinnamon/sugar banana with cream on top--yummy

my son had creme brulee which he said was good

that was the only restaurant we planned to go back for just for the dessert, but never made it..next time definitely:thumbsup2

if you notice my tag you will see i frequent Mythos often.

The Bistro Filet is very good.
I usually get the rissoto which changes depending on what Chef Mark has to work with. The salmon can be very good, but like all meals at Mythos if it is not good, tell your server and if you have a thought as to what you would like done preparation wise to improve it for your tastes, let them know and i think you will be very pleased.

The menu during busy time for the parks is different then the slower times. The busy times has items that are quicker to prepare.

I have ordered everything on the menu at least once. Hated the pad thai, just not my thing.

My first trip to Mythos they had the corvina and being an adventourous type and willing to eat most anything i ordered it. It was to die for. unfortunately it only rarely make a menu apperance. Not only was the fish great but the sauce and veggies were wonderful. what a mouthfull of flavors depending on what you had on your fork with each bite.

The best sauce i have ever had hands down anywhere was at Mythos. it was a raspberry red wine reduction on the rissoto with a small filet and large sea scallops.

I have looked at the menu for Emerils and see many things i would like to try, but when i look at the price compared to Mythos, and the quality of Mythos food i see no reason to pay the extra.

Since i have been there many times and always give them feedback on my meal, i have had the opportunity to try some of Chef Mark's creations that did not make it on the menu for whatever reason. Chef Mark and the management team do everything in thier power to make sure Mythos is not a cookie cutter type of dining experience.

BTW the butterscotch martini that either Alex or Ellen make is really good.

Chocolate is not one of my favorites, but the Banana Gooey Cake with the banana's, Foster's saice and peanut butter ice cream is a great blend of flavors.

in short. I VOTE FOR MYTHOS AS BEST RESTUARANT INSIDE A THEME PARK HANDS DOWN. :cool1:

I'd really like to try that corvina, I've only had it once before and it is a great fish!

To us, one of the BEST restrurant we ever ate at..

Theme park rest donn't get any better then this anywhere!!:thumbsup2

Check out the food thread for pics!!

Rissoto of the day no telling what the chef will come with-UHMMMMM

I do recall reading Mythos was award something like that when we dined there.

Quick search: Mythos Restaurant at Universal's Islands of Adventure has won the Theme Park Insider Award as the world's best theme park restaurant for the past five years. Review with pictures http://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/200612/261/

Although the food is good at Mythos (I had a pretty good pizza there on our last visit), its the atmosphere that keeps bringing me back. I find it a great break from the park, a nice place to relax and regain one's bearings. The servers are great. The decorations are neat. One of my favorite alcoholic drinks, Potion of the Gods, is sold there too.

op, i have eaten at mythos twice, and although it was fine, the food was not my familys cup of tea. it is cool inside, but we arent into most of what is on the menu.

Well that's reason enough for me!;)
