Yeah!!!! It's the 132 Kentucky Derby!!!! The sport of kings!

Anyone watching it today or having a Derby party???? We are having Mint Juleps and BBQ!!!!

If I wasn't working, I'd be watching. It was a big deal for my Mom every year.

I'm not usualy into horse racing, but I do love the triple crown races.

» Run For The Roses

Born in the valley
And raised in the trees
Of Western Kentucky
On wobbly knees
With mama beside you
To help you along
You'll soon be a growing up strong.
All the long, lazy mornings
In pastures of green
The sun on your withers
The wind in your mane
Could never prepare you
For what lies ahead
The run for the roses so red --
And it's run for the roses
As fast as you can
Your fate is delivered
Your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime
In a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined
In the dance
It's high time you joined
In the dance --
From sire to sire
It's born in the blood
The fire of a mare
And the strength of a stud
It's breeding and it's training
And it's something unknown
That drives you and carries
You home.
And it's run for the roses
As fast as you can
Your fate is delivered
Your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime
In a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined
In the dance
It's high time you joined
In the dance --

Yep, we're going to a party at some friends house. It's also a surprise 50th Bday for the host, his wife has been quite sneaky about the plans!

We watch the Derby every year, kind of a tradition around here in KY.

Everytime I hear this I cry!!!! There is just someting so special about this day, the first Saturday in May. Not only is it the greatest race in sports, its also so packed with tradition.

We won't be able to watch it...but we'll record it!!!

Ever since Smarty Jones got SOOOOO close a few years ago (I still say that other guy should have let him win! ;) ), we've really enjoyed watching the triple crown races!

Love the tradition and the history...and the horses are beautiful!!!

I agree. Dan Fogelberg makes me misty-eyed anyway, because our wedding song was Longer.

Wooo hooooo! Bring on the ponies. Schucking DD off on the grandparents and getting ready for the run! Louisville is so exciting this time of year! :cheer2:

 Always watch the Derby on TV. I actually cried the first time I flew over Churchill Downs!

My husband had the TV on since early this morning. Breakfast at Churchchill Downs. We have eight people here right now. By this afternoon we will have about 40 people. Maybe we will win at least one race today.

I'm sitting in front of my TV with the Derby coverage on. Started yesterday with Breakfast at Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Oaks... I love the first Saturday in May!

Has anyone been to the Derby? I haven't, but I have been to the Breeder's Cup when it was at Churchill Downs in 1998. Had a blast!

We're heading off to a Derby brunch right now! My friend has a brunch every year, basically we stay all day and bet on the race at his house. It's so fun! All the ladies wear hats and the men suits and ties. My pick this year is Barbaro!

Yep! The Derby is required watching for those of us here in Kentucky!

Dangit. If I would've been at the track I would've won. I always bet on the #8 horse, plus Barbaro was my pick of the night...

As it was, my houseguests and DH & I consumed half a dozen chicken breasts, four sirloins (for the guys), a hashbrown casserole, baked beans, a green bean casserole, a bag of tortilla chips and homemade salsa, a bowl of queso (I don't like DH's salsa), crackers, summer sausage and cheese, a box of bourbon balls (well, only four balls), a bottle shiraz, a bottle of Woodford Reserve (bourbon), a sleeve of Ritz crackers, half a bottle of Fris vodka and half a double-decker chocolate chip cookie with icing. Another successful Derby party!! :thumbsup2

DH and I met on a trip to the Derby (through Ohio State's pre-vet club) in 1980!! We held a dog show to raise money and the entire trip only cost us $10 each and included bus ride to Louisville, 1 night in a hotel, infield ticket and 1 dinner at KFC!! We met on the bus ride and hit it off right away - I knew within 2 weeks that he was "Mr. Right". We went back to the Derby on our own the next 2 years.

The infield is a crazy place and I'd love to go back someday and sit in the stands.

I have always loved the Derby (I'll never forget watching Secretariat!!) and think it's ironic that it's how I met DH! We always celebrate by at least watching it on TV and toasting each other. BTW we'll celebrate our 22nd anniversary in July.
