Who's Gonna Have More Fun? Two PTR's for the Price of One!

Ah Epcot...I have the hardest time figuring out where I want to eat there.

I agree with you about Sunshine Seasons. I usually walk through there on the way to getting DH's Fish & Chips, but nothing ever looks appealing.

For TS at Epcot we've done
Rose & Crown - I wasn't impressed. I think DH got Fish & Chips, which of course are less expensive outside, and I got some kind of Pot Pie. I remember it had a flaky VERY dry crust that I didn't care for. It probably would have been fine, except the meal wasn't timed properly for the baby, so he wasn't happy.

Le Cellier - We both loved it, but we haven't made it back since our honeymoon. I had an ADR for the December trip we canceled, and now I don't know when we'll be going back, because I'm not sure that we'll do the dining plan ever again, and even if we do I don't think I would pay two credits for it. I got the Filet, which I loved.

Biergarten - I gave my brother and sister a list of places in and around Epcot and this is the one they picked. They saw that Mac & Cheese was on the buffet.:confused3 I didn't care for the food very much, except the Bavarian Cheesecake. I pretty much filled up on Bavarian Cheesecake and bread. Everything else was cold and dry. We probably won't go back for a long time, because I can get the Bavarian Cheesecake at the CS outside, and DH wouldn't dance with me when they opened up the dance floor.

Coral Reef - I didn't mind the food here, and the service was pretty good for us, but it wasn't anything spectacular, and we were pretty far away from the tank.

Garden Grill - This was before DH and I got married, and I was only there with my family. It was the week before New Year's and when my Dad tried to get an ADR at the last minute it was the only place available, and pretty much the first lunch ADR on New Year's Day. I'm not a huge fan of "Thanksgiving" food, and ended up eating off the plates from the "kids menu" more than anything else, and bread...I can usually fill up on bread anywhere I go.

For CS,
Yorkshire County Fish Shop - Always Logan. I've tasted it, but it's definitely not my favorite. I prefer my "chips" (fries) to be crispy, and I'm not a fish eater.

Kringla Bakeri og Cafe - I don't remember the food much. I think I got the Norwegian Club, a drink, and a Cloudberry Horn for dessert. We had problems with the Dining Plan here, because she tried to charge me 2 snack credits and a counter service credit, or maybe a snack credit each for the drink and dessert and cash for the sandwich? Either way, it took a while for it to get sorted out, and they ended up calling a manager who refunded ALL the credits (which gave us extra in the end, which was nice) but by the time I was eating I was so worked up and distracted. I do remember that I had a hard time eating the Cloudberry horn, because the outside was so hard.

CS in Mexico - I ordered a quesadilla off the kid's menu. I'm sure Logan got something much more adventurous, but I don't remember. This was the summer trip with my family, so I try not to think about it much, especially since that particular day was really frustrating.

Sommerfest in Germany - Bavarian Cheesecake, and I'm sure Logan has gotten a Brat there before, but I don't remember.

That's it....on our last trip we kind of snacked around at the various different kiosks, so nothing new that you can get all the time. I did finally try the Cheddar Cheese Soup in Canada, and wasn't impressed at all. Maybe the stuff they have in Le Cellier is different?

Next time, I have down that we're going to try Via Napoli and the Lotus Blossom Cafe. We'll see how it goes though. I have a feeling Logan won't let go of his Fish & Chips that easily, and China is so far away from the UK. Also, I may be sick of Asian food by the time we go on our next trip.

hey! Cute puppy!! My kids were freaking out !! "Can we get one?"...I knew that was coming!!! LOL....we have had 2 bad meals at San Angel, but it's been a few years back so maybe they changed it up! We looooove the caramel store in Germany...my favorite snack place in alll of Disney!!! We love rose & Crown too!...Garden Grill used to be the best..but last year it wasn't so good, so-to the disappointment of the kids-we are skipping it this year,...Germany(Biergarten) is where we go for pretty much the atmosphere, my kids love it*me too!*,..the food is not what they would usually get, but they eat it! Le cellier we are skipping this year since it's 2 TS credits, Never been to Coral Reef! Can you believe that?! Mike and I like Nine Dragons, kids don't care for it, but we skipped it last year so we are going on the next trip...Via Napoli does sound interesting...I am waiting on your report to see if we go!!!!!

Thanks Shawna! :)

Tell your kids that if this one doesn't stop peeing in my house they can have him!!

I hope the next time you go to San Angel you have a better experience! I think the new caramel store is my favorite snack place in all of WDW too. :lovestruc Well that and Aloha Isle! You guys should try Coral Reef sometime. I bet you would like it.

Oh no, your Via Napoli ADR depends on my review. :scared1: So much pressure!! :rotfl:

I do too. We are only eating at one TS restaurant in Epcot on this trip and I've changed it 4 times. :upsidedow

They have dancing at the Biergarten? That sounds like fun! I did the same thing at Garden Grill -- ate from the children's offerings because I didn't care for the dry bland food for us! :rotfl:

It seems like everyone wants to try Via Napoli next time! We thought about it last year but I knew at some point we would be getting pizza at the BWI, which was very good BTW! :thumbsup2

Good Morning! I'm glad I tuned in when you guys were talking about food! YAY! One of my favorite subjects! Especially at WDW.

We did the DxDP the 1st two trips we went to WDW, so we have a lot of experience with the restaurants. We downgraded last year and decided to do the DDP and we were very happy with it. The amount of food and more importantly the amount OF MONEY you spend on the DxDP is ridiculous. We are planning a 5 night trip in October with friends this year and we are staying with them on DVC points, so it will be interesting to see what having no DDP is like. I am going to try and keep track of how much we spend. I think from now on, we will do the DDP if it's free - if not more than likely we will pay OOP. But, I guess we'll see this trip. We'll be there for the F&WF again so it may be hard to tell. LOL. I feel like we'll spend a LOT of time snacking and drinking in Epcot.:upsidedow

So, here are the places we have eaten in the MK. I know I'm a little behind - but I'll catch up :rolleyes1

Aloha Isle

:cloud9:

Enough said. ;) Actually, I remember telling you guys that I wasn't super impressed with the Dole Whip the 1st time we tried it. I think I built it up too much in my head and was disappointed. We had one the following year and it was true love. So, now it's a must do and it's not the MK without one. :thumbsup2

Casey's Corner

This is a must do every trip also. Bob likes the hot dog meal and I always get the corn dog nuggets. Sometimes I have a really open minded adventurous palette, but sometimes I just want kids food. We like to sit in the back when there's a spot and watch the cartoons that they play. :goodvibes

Columbia Harbour House
The food here is great, it's not too heavy - it gives you some QS options that include more than just chicken nuggets and burgers. We thought we were so smart going upstairs because we thought no one knew about it, but it looks like almost everyone who has posted on here does the same thing! :thumbsup2 But, it's still almost alsways empty. We like to look out the window and pick out the "chess pieces" on top of the Haunted Mansion. :lovestruc

Crystal Palace
We ate here once on our honeymoon. The food was good, the characters were good - but what made me really love it here was the circumstances. We had an ADR somewhere outside of the park, but we weren't ready to leave yet. I knew that it was a long shot, but I asked if they had any availability (yeah right, at Crystal Palace at 6ish pm ) but they said that they would move some things around because we were on our honeymoon! They put us at a little table overlooking the castle and decorated it with Mickey confetti and then they even brought us out a special dessert. This is why I love Disney so much. They just made it happen. :cloud9: We haven't been back since, I am always afraid it won't be as magical next time.

Pecos Bill
OK food, I like the toppings station - but I agree that service is S-L-O-W. I would probably return if I was super in the mood for a burger, but that's about all.

El Pirate y El Perico
This has only been open ONCE since we were there, the food was pretty good. I got the exact same taco salad here that I got at Pecos Bills. Bob got the set of 3(? I think) tacos. Same topping station, but much less of a wait. I would go back if it was open..

Yeah, I don't think the DXDDP would ever be a good deal for us. That's just way too much food and way too much money. I won't ever pay for the regular DDP again. It's just not worth it now that DS12 is considered an adult, and DS9 will be shortly too. We did just fine without the DDP last year. We rather enjoyed it actually. We've been there enough that once I made our ADR's I scanned the menus online and figured out that we would order at each restaurant and figured in snacks each day and got a gift card. I ended up coming within $40 of the total by the end of 9 days! And it was $40 extra that we had! :yay:

We had a similar experience at CP too. We had gone there for breakfast on our first 2 trips and loved it. Then had a dinner ADR there on our 3rd trip. It happened to be on our 10th anniversary. I didn't note that on the ADR or anything, because I had noted it on our breakfast ADR for that morning at Cape May. We got semi dressed up for the Cape May breakfast (I had a dress on and DH & the boys had polo shirts on) and we wore our anniversary buttons. DS12 (was 9 then) even told our server when we sat down that it was our anniversary to which she replied -- oh that's nice. Not that we expected anything big, but a nicer reply would have been appreciated. We spent the rest of the day hanging out at the resort and swimming. We got cleaned up and dressed in shorts & t-shirts and headed to MK that evening for our dinner ADR at CP. We put our anniversary buttons back on. I checked us in and never mentioned our anniversary. When we got called to our table there was mickey confetti in the shape of a heart on it. All the CM's were fabulous and made such a fuss over us. And they brought us out a card signed by all the characters!

Never been to El Pirate y El Perico. I don't know that it has ever been open when we have been there. I bet it will be this summer. Maybe we'll give it a try!

Sure has been quiet here today. Must be cause Jo is away.

How did Jack sleep last night any better? Showed DH the pics of Jack and he fell in love with your newest family member too.

Okay I'm finally all caught up. I'm hungry now and have a severe urge to shop. :rotfl: I want to buy sundresses and test them out at Disney in the summer.

Shelly- Congrats on paying off your package and on adding Jack to your family. He is adorable and the boys look so happy!

Jo- Congratulations to your mom! :lovestruc I hope you are having a wonderful time with your family!

Thanks Shawna! :)

Yes, they have a "show" where they play different kinds of music. I remember Polka specifically, but I think they played some other stuff too. It was really fun, but DH wouldn't get up. He asked the other day if we could eat there again some time, and I told him no, because he didn't dance with me.:lmao:

I think Via Napoli would be the best bet for me food wise, and it wouldn't be too expensive if we don't do the Dining Plan. If we do the DP, I might change my mind. We'll see what DH has to say though...we don't have the same taste in pizza toppings :confused3

I might do the gift card thing on our next trip. It's very difficult to predict what DH will order, but I suppose if I just count on the most expensive thing on the menu every time, we'll be good.

Hello! :goodvibes Is anybody around today???

Yep, I'm blaming it on Jo!! It's always quiet when she's away. :lmao:

Jack is sleeping much better. Thankfully. :worship: Now if we could just get a handle on the peeing in the house and all the biting! :scared1:

Yes, reading this PTR will make you want to eat and shop. Maybe I should put that as a disclaimer in the first post! :rotfl:

Thank you Kim. :) Jack sure is adorable, but I forgot how much work puppies are.

Well that sounds like fun. My DH probably wouldn't get up and dance either. Maybe he would though since we wouldn't know anyone there. :rotfl: DS12 would sure enjoy something like that!

:yay: for 7 weeks!!

I hope it goes by quickly for you (the 7 weeks, not the vacation).

I'm here, even though I'm supposed to be working. I just HAD to peek at my subscriptions this morning! Work gives me a headache. :headache:

7 weeks!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!

I forgot to chime in on the Epcot eating topic. We haven't tried many sit down places at Epcot. We snack along our way through the countries and are full by the time we hit England. DH and I loved Alfredo's when we went in 2001 for our honeymoon. Sadly it's gone now. Last year we ate at Coral Reef- atmosphere gets 5 stars, food for the price gets about 3 in my book. Maybe when the kids are older it will be easier doing more sit down meals. The one place I vow to never eat at again is San Angel in Mexico. I got nachos there in 2009 and was sick as a dog that night. I think it was just my body not used to eating so many different foods and it caught up with me by the end of the week. DH ate them too and had no trouble. But I'll never be able to eat there again without remembering that night.

DH and I were just talking about that last night -- how fast vacation always seems to go by. :headache:

I know what you mean -- I hate when work gets in the way of DISing.:rotfl:

Alfredo's must have been before my time. My Disney time, that is. :rotfl:

I agree about Coral Reef. The atmosphere was great, but the food wasn't anything spectacular for the price.

Whenever I get sick after eating somewhere I never go back either. :scared:

Yay for 7 weeks! You're getting so close!
Well, we arrived in Marco Island, Florida today! We had a very early flight, and are now relaxing with my in-laws. We get to WDW on Monday!
I hope that Jack is adjusting well!:goodvibes

Just getting in on this....I know, I'm a little behind but looking forward to catching up on this! Missing our "snowbird" chats from a few years ago - have been MIA from Disney for over a year now (has it really been that long?! :sad1:) - DH just gave me the green light to start planning our next one for sometime next year (YEAH!). Gonna live vicariously through you until then!

Looking forward to "catching up" with everyone and reading about your awesome plans!!! Shelly - I think you and I were at CBR at the same time in January 2009 and just were never able to catch up with each other to "meet" in person!

I hope you get caught up soon and join us each day! :goodvibes In the second post of the thread there are links to updates, in-case you want to skip all the other chatter.

I remember when you and I (and a bunch of other Snowbirds) were at CBR at the same time! That was the last time we stayed at CBR. We are going to be staying there for half of this trip.

YAY for your 2012 trip!! :woohoo: When are you going? Where are you staying? :yay:
