While I know it will be hot, rainy, humid...just wondering about the crowds. I keep seeing posts saying the last week of August will be low crowd...but not sure about the 2nd and 3rd weeks.

TIA,
Pam

I think that it has historically been a low-crowd time, but with the free dining it might be way more crowded! We're going 8/16-8/22! :thumbsup2

We were there last Aug 17-25 and I thought the crowds were very low. And it was during free dining! We stayed as DVC so we didn't have free dining but had a great time. We are going this year Sept 23-oct 1 with Free Dining and I am hoping the crowds will be like last year! :cool1:

we're going 8/12-8/20. i'm preparing myself for massive crowds (and even planning for large crowds in the schedule!). that way, i will be pleasantly suprised if the crowds aren't as bad as i'm preparing for them to be.. and if there are tons of people there, then i wont be bummed out or anything, cuz it's what i expected!! teehee!

anyway.. it's disney!! enjoy it, crowds or no crowds. :wizard:

Last year it wasn't very crowded if you avoided extra magic hour parks. Even the dining wasn't a problem, but it was so hot, you really didn't feel like eating much.

Our last (only) WDW trip (1999) was at the end of Aug. 1/2 day of rain, med. crowds (I guess, it was my first trip, so I'm compairing to DL, where I've been many times). I don't think that the heat was extreem , either. :sunny:

Going 8/13 til 8/18, free dining is why we picked this date.

We went in August 2004 and while it was hot and humid the crowds seemd low and bearable but we didn't do any EMHs and there wasn't any free dining. This year we decided on August 18th - 24 with a 24 - 27 cruise to follow because the crowd was so manageable last time, resort rates have gone down by then and what a way to end the summer - with a bang and memories of WDW.

We went last summer 8/13-20. The parks were empty but I left the day the free dining started. We avoided all EMH & went to the parks that had it the day before. Walked on everything & never used FP. It didn't rain all week though at times I wish it had :sunny:

That time is typically when we've gone to WDW. It's H-O-T, especially for us up north, and it is *incredibly* humid. It rains almost every day but for very brief periods. The crowds range from tolerable to elbow-to-elbow.

That being said, we have always had a wonderful time in August. We got most of our must-do's done, even under the "worst" conditions (how bad can it really be? It's Walt Disney World!). And one of the best perks? The parks are open late! Two Spectro parades! Two showings of Fantasmic! Fabulous! :)

We went to WDW 8/17 - 8/24 in 2003. The wether was hot and rainy with rain everyday, sometimes a half day or more. CM said it was much rainier than normal then. Crowds were tolerable with many Europeans over on "holiday". The American crowd seemed to diminish as the week wore on as many kids headed back to school.

In 2005 we went 8/20 - 8/27. This time there was no rain except for a 1/2 hour storm one day (There was this thing called hurricane Katrina churning to the south that blocked all other weather systems and gave us GREAT weather). It was stil HOT, though. Crowds started out as average, but dweindled to sparce by the last day. Our last day was in Magic Kingdom, and we did not wait more than 5 minutes to walk onto any ride.

We are going again this August. It seems the closer you get to the end of the month, the better the crowds are. Hope this helps.
