I was told that there are enough qualifying DVC members at DL that it could sell out with just Founding members.

Interesting as I have been told by my Guide(s) (Florida and California) that is not the case . . . I don't like what they did but I am resigned to it and think that we will all have a shot at Grand Californian DVC when the time comes, hopefully next year when I hope to buy 160 points!

Do you feel that all 5,625 DVC members will want to buy 160 points? We only live 30 minutes from DLR and only just recently decided to buy 50-75 points depending on the point structure. AND we do NOT have founding member status even though we just bought at DL last year. We are willing to wait and see how much the points costs, what the MF will be, and how the points work out for the time of the year we would want to stay onsite.

I was told that there were more than 5,625 qualified members, that the number was closer to 10k. And that waiting was a definite gamble. But you know how information is a Disney, it depends on what CM you get on what day. Plus, they might have been just trying to sell me more points by making it out to be more qualifing members then there really are. Although this information came straight from two of the DVC CM at DL this past Sat. I do have my Florida guide confirming this.

I too am crossing my fingers for all of us. I just can not see spending more money on points that I dont need or want for a guarantee. I dont want the "Founding Member" status, I just want to be able to purchase the points. We are composing a letter regarding our concerns to the powers that be so that they may think twice about doing this in the future. I would suggest that you do the same if you are unhappy. You can write it and send it to your guide, who will then forward it to the correct person in charge.

With all this talk about the new Kingdom Towers, I'm getting excited about the upcoming sales of the new GCVs. So let's see how a West Coast DVC stacks up? :teacher:

I've split it up by purchases eligible for GCV Founding Members program(purchased 160+ points for SSR/AKV via DL DVC office) vs those purchased once available to DVC membership/general public.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but I've been away awhile and have missed anything official on the sale of GCV. Founding members? Man, I've really missed some info! Could someone please point me to a thread that has the info? Thanks.

I don't think it will sell out, before it opens to all of DVC. I think most will want small contracts. First, it's hard to justify a week at Disneyland. Secondly, the economy is changing and people will reconsider big purchases.

We are hoping to/plan to add on 50-75 points once we see the prices and point requirements. A visit to DL and SoCal every 2-3 years would fit in perfectly with yearly visits to AKV. And then, starting in a few years, I could see stopping for 2 nights at GCV on the way out to the new DVC in Hawaii.

I totally agree. Unfortunately the founding members provision is in many California DVC contracts so they can't change it no matter how much we complain.

I remember last year when AKV started selling to all DVC members -- the first so many were in the founders group. They didn't run out of points then for AKV. In fact, they just finished declaring the Jambo house points. They still have all of Kidani to declare and sell. That is why I think that we will all have a shot at buying points -- at least I hope so!

I tend to agree with Wendy. I am a "Founding Member" (purchased 180 points last April at DLR) and never even knew it until I read about it here:rolleyes: . That being said, if I purchase, it will only be 50-60 points as I live an hour away and like to come in for a night every now and then. I certainly hope that there is enough points for all that are interested.:goodvibes

Whoever gave you that info was off by a decimal place. There will be plenty of points left after the "founding members" get a first stab.

When I first found out about the "Founding Members" program last October I spoke with someone high up in the DVC chain. I was assured that there would be points available for the general members. I was told they calculated a certain number of points to be available to Founding Members and once that is reached they will stop offering it and take that page out for new master contracts.

I voted 161+. I want enough points for about 3-4 weeks in a studio. I really wish they would release price and point details already.

We will probably buy, but I won't decide how many points until I see the points charts.

I might sell off my 25pt AKV contract to pay for part of the purchase, but I'm not sure. (Am keeping my 160pt AKV contract--we love AKV!)

I sure hope your right. I just turned down the add-on to get into the Founding Members. When we toured the Dream Suite last Sat they were offering a 110 point SSR/AKV add-on to get into the Founding Members group. I'll be heart broken if we don't get our GC points. I've been waiting for these for years.

Did not vote for a couple of reasons. It is likely they will have a special offering when they first open it up to members and that may or may not include founder status. Until we see a final points chart we can not say how many points or how many days.

If they follow the east coast routine we will buy for five weeknights every even year in a two bedroom. We also own at Shadow Ridge (Palm Desert) EEY and will combine the two.

We will consider making that an every year if we can get comfortable with a drive to or from Phoenix (where we own at Canyon Villas) in the odd years.

I voted no, but I'd really like to have some GCV points. Problem is that we have enough points now to satisfy our travel needs. I'm hoping that we can trade in at the 7th month mark for an occasional weekend trip.

This is similiar to what I was told so I am confident that will be the case. Now all we have to do is figure out how many points to buy! :rotfl:

According to the Blue Sky Disney Blog (as pointed out by DVCNews.com):

Speaking of the Grand Californian, those 250 rooms should be done in time for the new water show that premieres in spring of 2010. Although the new expansion has only 50 DVC units, it won't be long before more are coming... by the end of this decade there will be a great deal more in the planning.

I want GCV so bad i will cry if they sell out to Founding members.. CRY I tell you!!!

We want enough points to spend 6 nights there, every 3 years or so...

Please don't cry :lovestruc

By george I think there's got to be a way for those who want them to get GVC points, even if it's down the line thru the reseller's market. Disney is successfully creating demand for the Founder's program - by making people believe they HAVE TO buy into Disneyland DVC right now if they ever want a chance at GVC. That's about all they have to create demand right now, or why would most who want GVC even bother to buy until those points are available?

I think we're going to see many interesting opportunities for west coast DVC options in the coming years...
