Whoops!! Dropped my iphone 4s on the pavement

This. My friend dropped hers, the screen still worked so she kept using it, but over time the crack spread and she got annoyed with it, so she took it to the apple store. It was out of warranty, but they replaced the screen for her for free anyway. That doesn't mean that they will definitely do it for you, but it certainly can't hurt to ask.

My phone was just 2 weeks out of warranty and the Apple Store would do nothing for me, except sell me another one for $499

Yeah, that's why I said "try". They don't have to, but sometimes they will.

If the glass isn't broken from "corner to corner" - apple will replace the phone under their warranty - according to the Apple store guy we dealt with when my son broke his screen. Otherwise - it's $250 - includes a phone and AppleCare extended warranty.

Yep, I went to the Apple store last night and was told to pound pavement. Oh well, it was worth a try I guess.
