I am so excited! My youngest daughter (21) asked me yesterday if we could take a short trip to WDW this summer. She had gone down for Spring Break and bought an annual pass, and she wanted to make sure she got her money's worth (or should I say...my money's worth) out of it. She also wanted to bring her boyfriend along so that he could have one last fun trip before going into Basic Training with the Navy. I told her that I really didn't think we would be going this summer since her dad and I had just gone for Spring Break, and were also going in October for the Food & Wine Festival, but I told her to ask her dad (he has a hard time saying no to his daughters). He said "Book it!" I just called the DVC to see if we could use points for the Fort, and had no trouble getting it! Yippee!!! Our dates are July 22 - 26 and we will be in a premium pet loop! Anyone else going to be there during that time?

Well this is simply not fair! Actually, I am going with my Mom in September and I am looking so forward to it. I live 550 miles from her and I can't wait for some Mama/daughter time!:goodvibes Ya'll will probably remember this trip forever. Have fun!

Really? I didn't realize you could use DVC points for a campsite.

Do you mind me asking how many points per site/per night? I wonder if its only on 'premium' sites and not just partial which is what we'd be interested in seeings how we only have a 'tent'. :confused3

It was going to cost 48 points for a full or preferred campsite (Thurs. - Sunday), but we went for a premium for 10 points more. The good thing about this is that I had a total of 120 points in the "holding account" due to a last minute cancellation, and if I didn't use them by the end of February, I will lose them. So I was very happy to be able to make the reservation. In the past, they used to charge you a $95 fee if you made reservations outside of a DVC resort, but they no longer do that for the Fort.

Am I correct in assuming that you are using approx. 12 points per night then? If so, that seems awfully steep considering you can stay in a studio for that much :scratchin......but I'm happy you were able to use up your points at the Fort regardless! :yay:

We are going in July. The cost for the Fort in July is 15 points per night for Fri. & Sat. and 9 points per night for Sun.- Thurs. A studio at OKW for the same time would be 27 points per night for Fri & Sat. and 11 points per night for Sun. - Thurs. The other resorts cost even more points. With the RV, we have a full kitchen, 3 tvs, washer/dryer, an outside grill, and room for 6! Plus we get to stay at the Fort! As far as I'm concerned, it a real bargain! :)

O.k. When you break it down like that, that is a better deal.

Thanks for answering my questions.

Once again, glad you could use your points and enjoy your trip! :thumbsup2

So, I've decided that something is bound to go wrong with this trip because everything is working out way too well. I was so surprised to be able to get our reservations using DVC points, since I've heard that they are difficult to get. Then I told my daughter that she could pick two restaurants that she really wanted to go to this trip, and the rest of the time we will eat at the campsite. She said Le Cellier and O'hana's during Wishes. I told her not to get her hopes up since this is short notice. I called yesterday and believe it or not, I was able to get both reservations! Then I called today and was able to reserve a golf cart from Kenny for the trip. I know I shouldn't be worried, except that over a month ago, I broke my foot and I've been in a boot ever since. I went to the doctor last week to see how it was healing and it had gotten worse instead of better, and he extended my time in the boot (but it should still be gone before the trip). My foot has been hurting a lot lately (it seems like it should be feeling better by now) and now I'm getting worried that either I will still be in the boot or I will end up having surgery. I swear I will cry if we don't get to go! I hope I am just being paranoid for nothing!

We just booked our stay at FW for 7/25 - 7/28 last night! I'm pretty excited since I haven't been there since I was a kid. Sounds like a lot has changed and yet so much hasn't. (The outdoor movies, Chip and Dale, etc.) We don't have any plans to go anywhere else but the campground at this point, but it sounds like there is plenty to keep us and the kids entertained. I may have to check into renting a golf cart as that sounds like a lot of fun. I can't wait to see what our kids think of this place! It would be fun to meet some people from the forum there too. I will have a cold beer waiting! I also make a mean old fashion as well! :drinking1

holly,
this trip is meant to be and you WILL be out of that boot by then! i am so happy and encouraged that you got this on points AND got the ADRs! this is why i love having the RV, you CAN go more often for less than dvc! isn't it great they waived the $95 fee, glad the letter writing helped! i can't wait for the NEXT trip and i haven't even taken this one yet!:goodvibes

You and your family will love it!!! My kids haven't stayed there since they were very small (we stayed in the cabins once or twice). The daughter that is coming with us doesn't remember it at all, so she is curious about why my husband and I love it so much! Keep reading these boards and you will learn everything that you need to know about the Fort! The people here are the experts!

Believe it or not, when I called to make the reservation, the CM told me that I had to pay the $95 fee. I told her that I thought that they weren't charging that anymore, and so she went and checked with someone who told her that I was right! We both kind of laughed about the fact that I had taught her something new! By the way, when Emily gave me dates that would work for her for this trip, the first set of dates that she gave me coinsided with your trip! I was so excited, but then she told me that she really didn't want to go then since she didn't think Jonathan (her boyfriend) would have enough money saved up for his ticket. I was so disappointed. I was hoping that we would get to see you this trip!

daaaaang it holly! that would have been great! Dottie/Joe, Debbie and Pat are all coming down for my birthday! I talked to Justin, he is even going to try and make it for a few days at least. Great present for me! :cool1:

I told our 6 yr. old last night and his reaction was pretty much..:yay: after I started telling him about the campground. These boards are very helpful. I am amazed at the number of FW "fans" out there. There are still some details I need to work out such as renting a golf cart or not.....planning some activities, but I am confident I can find all of the info here on these boards. I just have to restrain myself here at work :surfweb:

Oh Holly, Cheryl and Jeff are going to be jealouuuuuuuuuuos! LOL Have a great trip! I thought you bought a golf cart?

We will be there July 21-28. We'll be in a Full. Maybe we'll see you at the fort.

We'll be looking for you! If you haven't gotten BigDaddyRog to make you a DISboard member sign, you might want to go ahead and ask now. They look great and make it so easy to spot other DISers!

We've been looking at golf carts but haven't bought one yet. The original plan was that my DD and her boyfriend would drive down separately so that we would have a car, but they really want to ride down in the RV...so it looks like we will be towing a car.

We just booked our family's first trip to WDW and FW for July 23 to 27 in the standard pet loop. I haven't been to WDW since 1976. I watched a DVD and see that Disney sure has put a lot of shine on the parks.

We will join my sister and her kids for a small family reunion. Every one is excited, but my girls are fighting over who gets the Minnie Mouse ticket.

I am glad to have found this forum. I have learned so much.

Welcome! The people on here are wonderful and know more about FW than anyone that answers the phone at WDW! I have yet to have a question (or see a question posted) that they can't answer...they're very quick too.:) Your 33 year reunion is going to a blast! And having family with you always makes it extra special. :cool1:
