WHOA?! OKW "near HH" ONLY for CRO right now?!

Just called to book a June stay at OKW, requested "near HH" and MS told me "at this time that's only available to CRO bookings." I asked her to double check, she put me on hold and came back and said she asked her manager and he confirmed that I could "request" near HH, and if "upon check-in" there's availability (outside of CRO requests) we'll be close by HH. BUT the only "confirmed" near HH at this time is available by booking through CRO?!?

Why would cash guests get preference over Members?!?

That is NOT okay!!! How can this be justified? I wonder if this is being done only after the 7 month mark is reached, thus at least giving OKW owners some priority?

ETA: Oh.. I see what you mean...so that ONLY OKW owners get priority. I don't think that's the case. B/C when I lightly "complained" she basically said CRO is the ONLY ones able to book this category regardless.

I was able to book a GV with points at OKW with HH category this past Nov., so has there been a change in policy? Or is this ANOTHER case of different CMs giving different info?

Should I call back? I did ask CM to "verify" that info, she put me on hold for several minutes and said she "spoke to her manager" who supposedly confirmed it's ONLY for CRO.

That is crazy, and wrong. I think that you should call your guide and call MS again and speak to a supervisor. I mean, June is not 60 days from now.

He said that ONLY CRO can get confirmed "near HH" category for now. He said that MS should get the ability to do so in the future. He had NO IDEA when this would be. So, for now, my request is ONLY a request.

BUT if CRO is giving out "confirmed"...then that severely limits the MS people who are "requesting" it who will actually GET it. All CRO people will bump members b/c they have had a significant head start in getting "confirmed" HH.

I mentioned that other members have said they have "confirmed" HH...he said that's impossible b/c they don't even have the ability in their computer system to book this. Anyone being told it's confirmed is getting incorrect info b/c the BEST MS can do right now is just submit a "request."

For those of you that think it's "confirmed'... I'd suggest you call back ASAP.

OK, I was at OKW in the fall. It was our first DVC trip. We were in building 24, room 2424. I was surpised that we got such a great location. After checking in, I went on dvcmember and took a look. This is when i firslearned of the HH category. The DVC gods were nice t0 us. This is what it said on the site:

Modify reservation #39xxxxxxx9 at Disney's Old Key West Resort on xx/xx/xx - xx/xx/xx for Studio near Hosp.House

This was apprently modified the day before we arrived. So it appears that MS can do it.

You realize, that even if it is a CRO only category at the moment, the percentage of CRO guests at the resorts at a given time is pretty small compared to DVC guests, so you should have an excellent chance of getting your request to be near HH.

... but even if the CRO inventory is 10% (guessing here)... and they ALL request it. 100% of them would get it, while maybe a measly 5% of members would get their request. Still doesn't seem fair to me...

It would seem that for "whatever" reason (possibly 1970's computer system), MS cannot book a "near HH" reservation at the moment.

BUT...
Put it in as a request, and somehow, by magic, at some point before your actual stay, they will go in and modify your reservation to "near HH" guaranteed.

This is what happened to us, and has been observed by others on this board. It is stupid, ridiculous, and (insert any other adjective here), but it seems to be the only way it is happening at the moment.

It probably is changed by the room assigner when the reservations are downloaded to the resort.

There are 49 Bldgs at OKW, so if 10% are CRO cash, and all request near HH, that is 5 Bldgs. There are 12 bldgs in the "Near HH" category (11-14, 16, 62-64 and 23-26) plus 15, 27 & 28 are reasonably close.

That still leaves a minimum of 7 Bldgs "close" and 3 "pretty close" for DVCers.

Do I think CRO should get priority, no. But I also think it is being blown out of proportion, given the size of the resort and number of rooms available at OKW. I'm sure MS computer will be updated, and until then the room assigner is quietly giving the update when the reservations are downloaded.

Chuck - I agree with the % being small.
BUT - on an individual basis it matters. My neighbor calls CRO, booking cash, and requests HH - he/she is guaranteed this request upon booking. At the same time, I call MS as a member, I "request" it and I have a "chance" of getting it IF all the cash paying guests didn't already get a confirmed guarantee of that same request.

On the flip side, I spend the next 6 months "hoping" I'm near HH, while my neighbor hasn't a worry in the world about their location.

How do you feel about "renters" getting the same priority as OKW/DVC owners? When this category comes online with MS, what's to stop folks from booking that category for rental points?

For whatever reason, the renters don't bother me as much. They're still utilizing the points of a "member."

Something about coughing up 16K to become a member of something makes me feel a little turned off of the idea of another person getting request priority over me for a DVC resort.

It wouldn't even bother me as much if CRO and DVC were on "level" playing field. But it does bother me that they get priority "OVER" members.

Does that make sense?
