Everone tries to speculate what will happen to DVC in 2042...well, here is my idea....even if they decide to start another phase of DVC for the next generation, exclude OWK from the plans, I am sure they will have many more DVC resorts by then, and sell each unit individually. I think there would be minimum they would have to do to convert the units into actual homes...but offer them to the 55+ crowd. I would own a retirement home on Disney property in a HEARTBEAT. I don't know if I could afford the million dollar price tag that I am sure would be on the GV's, but I would pluck $500,000 down for a 2 bedroom.

So, if this actually happened, would you be on the phone with your realtor?

BTW, I will only be 74 years old in 2042. Still young enough to enjoy 10-15 years of retiremnt living, I hope!

I thought it already was.;)

Really, I'm sorry but when a softball like that gets tossed to me, I have to take a swing.

$500,000 would probably be a bargain then too, especially with this real estate market!!!! I'd be up for it! I'll be 64...we'd join in!

There are some large leaps of faith in this: first will WDW still be there and would the 55+ crowd even want to be anywhere near it with the way it is going. Would the government of China approve such an action, they will probably buy it before then. Will private ownership of property be allowed by the ultra-liberal government that might be in place. After 38 more years of the WDW area will we want to be anywhere near the place. I will be 100 then, I am not so sure I would want to hang around with all you "kids" anyway. My answer would be no, but for now I think like Happy Birthday Cat that OKW is pretty much a place for the 55+ crowd now, that is why most of us did not want the slide put in.

I'd definitely support that! In 2042, I'd be 90. 2014 sounds so much better. And I'd still be young enough in 2014 to fulfill my retirement dream of working at the OKW General Store, then walking home to my villa at the end of the day. DH says he wants to be a bartender at Gurgling Suitcase so he can hear all the "dirt" (assuming he couldn't get a job at one of the golf courses).

Hey now... I just bought into there and I am only 27... I hope it isn't totally that way now ;) :p
So please no 2014!!!!!! I'd get kicked out of my second home due to age :o

If all things stayed as they are now, then yes, that would be wonderful!! I would be 65 and that is the *perfect* age for retirement. I'm sure selling my house could pay for most of the cost of one of those rooms :teeth:

I would be 77 then. Where do I sign? Would WLV, BCV, and BWV be vacation destinations:idea:

Assisted living with weekly character meals and front of the line access (with or without wheelchairs)....... I'm in!

I'll be 95 in 2042, so I don't much care WHAT they do with it!:p

Me, too. He, let's turn it into a 95-and-up community. They can call it Old Codger West!

There is a reason Disney did not allow people to live at Epcot as first invisioned by Walt. Mainly if they had citizens they would have to let them vote and run the Reedy Creek District! Not going to happen

Since I will be 82, I figure it will be too late to move.

Actually it was Walt who crossed out the permanent residents and substituted temporary residents/tourists on the memo Paul Helliwell wrote to propose the centralized land ownership and private government structure that Disney should adopt in Florida. The only residents (47 in the two cities in Reedy Creek) are Disney management.

If they wanted to have permanent residents they could de-annex it from Reedy Creek like they did Celebration. And then use a Community Development District, again like in Celebration, to retain the control they would want to have over the project.
