Since you live in the same metro area as I do, then hope for your taxes to be going down. I was happily surprised to see that ours are dropping by 25% this year. It stinks that my house is worth less than I bought it for 13 years ago, but at least I don't have to pay taxes on some over-inflated number that doesn't exist anymore.

Ours actually DID go down this year, but not by a heck of a lot, that is for sure. I think $300

I was going to say an appraiser but basically assessor works too.

. Our house is a custom-built, in a neighborhood of custom homes, and I know there isn't another one like it in our town, so a realtor trying to come up with a comp is out.

Just because your house is custom, does not rule it out as being used as a comp.

Comp means comparable. So, comps are comparable in sq. ft, lot size, location. Comps do not have to be the identical house, just houses that are comparable in the area.

The only time I'd heard of this happening before was when a friend of mine, who's an attorney, had to take pics of the houses of people involved in a few sketchy cases he was involved with. In your situation, though, it sounds like some of the possibilities mentioned above are much more likely.

Or, in my case, the person who grew up in the house!! They were in the neighborhood & took pictures to show to their siblings because their childhood home had changed so much. (at least there was an explanation!)

When I was working for the Census Bureau last year, we had to hold our hand held computer out and get a GPS (Global Positioning) at every location that we visited.

Lots of people "thought" that we were taking pictures, but we weren't.
