Just a question. I've heard a lot of people talk about wearing running shoes.. and a lot of people recommend buying CoolMax socks and the like.

I went to disney last year at the end of August and will be going again this year. I can't imagine wearing running shoes and socks at that time of the year.

Do people actually do that? And if you're someone who does, is it so comfortable that it offsets the heat?

Not August but, September. It is pretty darn hot then too.
We all wear running sneakers and CoolMax socks. I have had 4 knee surgeries, the last one being 5 weeks ago, and sneakers are the only thing I can wear for a lot of walking. My kids have worn Crocs around the pool and resort but, they want their sneakers in the parks.:thumbsup2
We like New Balance or Asics running style sneakers.

I do it -- but wear a good pair of tennis shoes and some nice thick Thorlos. The idea is to wick the moisture away from the foot and out to the shoe where it can evaporate.

I love my Asics Gel Nimbus. I wore them to Disney in April '06 when the temps were in the 90s and did not have a problem. I wore moisture wicking socks and did not have a single blister or sweaty feet. I plan on doing the same in June but I will take my Teva Olawahu sandles to wear as well.

I have, but prefer socks and Crocs! :teeth: If I don't wear socks, I get blisters, no matter what kind of shoe I wear.

We are going at the end of August and very beginning of Sept this year. Last time it was October and I wore running shoes most of the time. I tried a pair of the mush flip flops but my feet were sore at the end of the day. My husband did fine the whole time in his mush flip flops. I guess I will try the running shoes again even though it will be so HOT!!!

I wear running shoes whenever I expect to be on my feet often, except to the beaches.

I do. Walking around Disney for a week or more on anything less would kill my feet and legs.

That's DH, all the way. The only place I've ever seen him wear sandals is poolside - otherwise it's runing shoes with socks. He has to wear orthotics, so good support and actual shoes are a must. In fact, he thinks sandals are uncomfortable and can't understand why anyone would wear shoes without socks. (of course, I spend my summer in drugstore flipflops....)

To each his own!

I wear running shoes and socks on most days of the year. I cant imagine being at work standing on concrete floors all day without them.

Thanks everyone. This is so helpful. I will definitely pack a pair of good walking shoes and my Thorlo socks and try it out. I'll bring my typical Columbia sandals as well.

we are going to WDW in July and socks and sneakers are a must! no way could i walk around without them. I just hate the silly tan lines it is going to leave!

We were at Disney in Aug. "07. We all wore sneakers and socks. And no-one got blisters or complained about hot feet. I can't imagine how people walk around all day at the parks in flip flops, but they do. I guess it is a personal preference.

I'm still not convinced on the runners. When I have been there it rains everyday. Don't your runners and socks get soaked. For me once they are wet they never seem to dry out for the rest of the trip, they also get stinky like laundry you forgot in the washer for 3 days. How do you get them dry and better smelling?

I will be in June, you can bet on it:thumbsup2 I was recently diagnosed with a painful heal condition: plantar fasciitis and now have special pads that must be worn in very good condition running shoes. These two fixes have resulted in amazing improvement...so out with the flip flops and in with my medically necessary footwear:cool1: as for staying dry and clean-smelling, I frequently wash the footwear on delicate cycle, so there's no bad smells and they dry quickly when turned upside down on a special shoe dryer we have at home. in all the rainy vacations we've taken at WDW (and Dollywood in Tennessee), neither have ever been a problem:yay: ASMo on June 20:surfweb: popcorn:: :cool2: princess:

i do, it is usually more comfortable and is nice to switch out day to day from sandals etc. I wear the good socks too, and it makes a difference. i had a good pair of speedo flip flops that were super comfy, but so were my tennis shoes.

my feet were never hot and i don't remember them getting sweaty or wet. you could always pack a backup pair of socks if you are concerned about it though. i never once got blisters iwth my socks and tennis shoes, but i did even with the best worn in sandals or flip flops and i am not talking the cheap type, but good for walking/hiking type sandals etc.

If your shoes get wet, bunch up some newspaper, stick inside, and they will dry out over night. A shot of Febreeze might work for odor, or I believe they have odor eater balls you put inside shoes as well. Hope this helps!

I never wear sneakers at WDW in the summer. Too hot, too rainy.

I usually wear my ugly Teva sport sandals. I hate the way they look but they are so comfortable and great for wet rides or the daily afternoon rain. I have never had sore feet or blisters when wearing the Tevas. I also will wear my broken in Teva flip flops (Olawahu style) if we are going to the park for a short time (after dinner etc) I won't wear them for all day, commando park touring though. I also swear by Body Glide....apply it to my feet liberally every morning and never had any rubbing issues.

My kids usually wear either Crocs or Lands End sport sandals....also never any blisters issues. DD18 will wear her sneakers occasionally because she tends to get shin splints if she walks too much in her flip flops.

I usually wear sneakers with ankle socks to limit the tan lines. After a long day of walking and standing, my feet and back usually appreciate the relief. I'll also take my Tevas and wear those occasionally...especially if it's going to be a wet day. I cannot stand wet socks!!

I usually wear flip flops at disney...i alwasy bring sneakers with me, but they very rarelyleave my suitcase b/c my feet have a tendency to swell up in heat no matter hwat im doing so sneakers can get very uncomfortable for me b/c when my feet swell, they hav eno where to go..lol
