Who Wants To Try a DIS-Meet At Gulf State Park In May-June 2016?

Randy,
I'm going to have to pick your wife up a nice gift. You guys are always top notch!:D

Michael, when she said that, the part about "us doing whatever the heck we want", I'm sure she said that know there are not any Adult themed places around GSP, you know the kind that requires dollar bills, so keep that in mind while you plan your "Guys Adventure Plans".
:rotfl2:

I guess that's okay. I got most of those years out of the way back in the late 90's. I work to hard for those dollar bills to waste them on some gorgeous babe in a g-string.

Now I am content spending those dollar bills buying squirrel food and paying for campsites.

Which, are legal and strangely more entertaining.

Got you covered Bishop

Well, there is a chang in arrangements I guess. Originally I was assigned site 71. Today Randy called and informed me that a friend of his was told on the phone that 71 was open.

I called and was told that my reservation had no assigned site :confused3

After some head scratching they were able to get me on 72. Just hope I am not double booked with someone.

So Ed, i guess I'll need you to update your opening post to reflect the change.

Strange. I guess I need to call to verify my assigned site.

I did just that tonight, Phil. I found my confirmation and deposit emails but they had no site number on them. So I got a little paranoid and called. My site number was in the system so I am relieved.

Tiggerdad was lucky to find this out today (and not standing in the lobby of the checkin building after being told the only spot they had for Memorial Day was WAAAY in back). Glad you got to stay on Sumac, Michael.

I just checked. Still on 70.

This is gearing up to be a pretty fun trip.

I'm not seeing any emails, but I can't quite remember which email I may have given them. What would the "from" email address be? Or maybe the wording of the subject so that I can search.

Ok, just searched all my emails and nothing. According to this thread, I booked the site on the 7th. They billed my credit card on 12/10. Will call at the first opportunity.

Thankfully Randy was looking out for me on this one.

I did get to thinking, moving to 72 means the front of my camper now faces all of you. This means I can watch the backing in shows from the comfort of my own chair. So not all is lost.

Won't be much of a show from me. I'll sneak in and you'll probably miss it all.

I pulled up my two emails from GSP, they have everything but a site number on them. I doubt their open on MLK Monday so will be calling Tuesday.

Im Glad I found that out about Michaels site, hated for him or anyone else to show up and not have a site, because it will be booked up for Memorial Day.

Hope my reservation is straight. But I did notice my site number listed on here is wrong. We're in 215 not 216.

Okay, made tiggerdad's change and fixed Flametamr's site number.

For those of you who have not been going to Gulf State Park over the years, it has changed over time primarily due to hurricane damage. I lose track of exactly which hurricane it was that came through between 2004-2006 but it used to be heavily wooded and sites were almost carved out from the trees with a lot of privacy other than the site across from you. Those days are gone but I have a demonstration of what they were.

I pulled Google Earth up over GSP and zoomed in on tiggerdad's road (Bear Road) that he was on when he cooked for me last summer. Here is the most recent view available on GE. Bear Road is the long straight road across the top.

Not moving the point-of-view at all, I just slide the time bar over to a year or two after the hurricanes (2008 view).

Here is the same view of Bear Road in 2004 before the hurricanes. It's hard to see individual sites. Again the corners are in the same locations as in the other two photos.

I'm looking forward to relaxing down there with the DIS folks.

That would be Hurricane Ivan in 2004 Ed.

Sucker was still a category 1 when it reached Demopolis, AL about 250 miles inland.
