One of my favorite dis threads is the food thread with all the delish Disney meals. I have gone through every thread, every picture. Yum!

But while my heart is like yay food! my brain is calculating the cost of those meals. So I thought it might be fun to post budget meals here, with estimated prices, and pictures. Sort of like we cook at home so we can afford to eat at Disney thread :)

I will start. I shop at Kroger because their mark down deals are spectacular. I guess they over ordered these sausages, and had 20ish packs marked down a week before their date. I bought 8 and popped them in the freezer.

My peppers are from my raised bed. The plants were $2.50 and I have gotten over twenty peppers off them (and have thirty still growing).

The tomatoes are from our raised bed too. $4.50 for the plants and we have picked almost 80 pounds worth. I have 20ish tomatoes still growing along with a hundred cherry tomatoes.

If you add in about a quarter for the onion, pennies for the tomatoes, and fifty cents for five peppers, this is our $2 meal.

Sorry no pictures, but I love my store and get my meats at a good discount from 30-50 % off. Including steaks. And for two of us saves a lot of money.

I forgot to say that I love shopping at Kroger too. Problem is I now have to use click-list, so I miss out on the great sales.

Your garden does so much better than mine ever has. If I am lucky, I'll spend $15 on tomato plants and see three tomatoes. Tops.

Or, all the tomatoes come at one time so I can't use them as efficiently as I would like.
I'm not about preserving them in any way, so I'll continue to grow 3-4 plants and then have a few tomatoes for a couple of weeks. The cherry tomatoes seem to bloom longer for me, so I get to enjoy those a little longer.

This year I put 4 plants in my raised bed and kind of forgot about them all summer as I was extremely busy. They appeared to have died than came back to life (on their own) and started giving me tomatoes. Same with 2 pepper plants...
Can't wait for retirement so I can enjoy this hobby. Just want to enjoy watching things grow!

Nothing like fresh vegetables!

I bet half of our meats are mark downs. It seems pork roasts and Italian sausages are always close to date. My freezer is full of them.

They went nuts this year because of our compost. We eat a lot of eggs and drink a lot of coffee. Tomatoes and cucumbers love both.

I wash them and throw them whole in the freezer. When they defrost on the counter the peel slides off. I used to can them and that is way too much work. We bought 160 pounds for freezing, my goal is to grow the 200+ pounds we eat in a year.

I am lame, looking for deals is often my fun for the week.

I really miss going to the store for all the markdowns. I would hit produce, then the markdown area, then markdown meat, then markdown dairy and last the bread and then just fill in with what I couldn't get marked down for the week! I no longer drive, so I have to depend on others now for my groceries which I why I use click-list because I can get people to pick-up the groceries easier than I can get someone to take me because they tell me I take too long in the actual store! It takes extra time to save money!

Last nights meal wasn’t picture worthy. Scrambled eggs. Three eggs 15 cents total. About ten cents for butter. The kid did kale, tomatoes, and broccoli. The hubs was at work. So about a buck for the two of us.

Instead of complaining about the time they should be watching you and learning!
