We were just there for 8 days in February. It was our first family trip. We had a great time and have decided to go back in December and be able to enjoy all the decorations and lights. It will also give us a chance to do the things we missed.

We had a great offsite hotel that had a full breakfast included, so that saved us on paying for breakfast. It was great to go downstairs and have a breakfast buffet waiting on us. We all ate before going to the parks.
We had a suite that had a kitchenette and a bedroom with two beds and a living room with a pull out sofa and it had a heated pool. So we will probably stay there again.
Disney wants me to pay for two rooms since there are 5 of us. Plus it does not include breakfast.
We want to have a few extra days this time, so we can have a couple of off days so we don't feel so rushed and we will spend a day at downtown Disney and we also want to spend a day going around looking at the decorations.
I also really want to do MVMCP

Welcome everyone! The first post has been updated! :goodvibes Please let me know if anything needs to be changed or updated.

Also, thank you so much everyone for the nice compliments on the thread. I never imagined it would turn into what it has...I thought maybe a couple of DISsers but nothing like this!! Each of you offering help and advice to each other is so great to see!! I love it! Thanks for making such a great thread everyone! :flower3:

I dont believe its held on a Monday...Sunday, Tuesday, Thurs, Fri...is the norm

Anyway I have been on Tuesdays and Sundays and I have found Sunday to be the best night and Tuesday was hit or miss...the earlier you can go on either of those nights the better...we went Sunday Nov 15th in 09 and it was a ghost town...quietest I had ever seen it...rule of thumb avoid nights that locals will attend...and go the farther away from the last one you can...so We went on the 1st Sunday party and it was great

In 2008 they had MVMCP on Mondays. We went on 11/10th in 2008, which was the first night of the party. .on a Monday. They were held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the week we were there. The week we were at WDW in 2009 the parties were on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays. Wonder what 2010 will look like, I had been playing with ADR ideas based on there being a Tuesday night party.

Good to know about Sunday! We would be there the Sunday after Thanksgiving, if there is a party that night - do you imagine it would still be crowded with Thanksgiving visitors - or thinning out by then?

Thanks dolphindan :thumbsup2
I guess its going to be a hit or miss anyway it goes(dependent on crowds). I figured closer to the weekend would be busier, esp with locals. I am ready for the dates to be posted, some of my final planning is with the Christmas party. Thanks again

I heard that Chef Mickey wasn't that really great, we are planning to do Chef Mickey for our 2 DD's 2 & 4. Did you and your family enjoy it and how was the food? The other question is, didn't you have to pay for parking and was it a hassle staying offsite? We just find it so easy to stay onsite because of the transportation and staying @ AS Sports so we can do extra MH's? Was it beneficial? Let me know please, maybe we'll try it too. Have a Magical Day.:thumbsup2

We LOVE Chef Mickey's. It's now our family's "first night tradition". The food is really good. (don't worry..we heard bad stuff about it too). Nice variety for the adults and kids. I think it's the best character interaction dinner. We always see each character multiple times while we are there. :thumbsup2

I've never been right aftr Thanksgiving..but I've heard from my friend that has been the entire week of Thanksgiving is just nuts busy...BUT I would think it would be thinning out by that Sunday. I would definatly chose Sunday that week over any other day.

:woohoo:

BTW..I LOVE LOVE this thread!!!!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

Hmm...we didnt do a party in 08...In 04 -06 I do not remeber a Monday party...maybe they were testing it to see how it went...

The Sunday after Thanksgiving should be the 1st party after the week of thanksgiving not having any....should be but it may be Tuesday

This is a fun thread. It's nice reading tips from people who have been there this time of year, etc. And sharing the excitement.

We are checking in WDW on Thanksgiving Day - but staying the following week. So we should have choices when it's less crowded.

Thankfully 5/1st is coming up fast! As it will help to see the dates. In 2009 we went to the part two nights - but one was super busy - but it was the Friday before Thanksgiving week, so it makes sense that it would be.

My DH says I've got OCD where Disney is concerned. Thank goodness for a board of fellow planners. :)

Yes, we really enjoyed Chef Mickeys. The food was really good and they had a lot to choose from. The characters come around one at a time to your table and pose for pics with you. We missed Goofy because my daughter had to use the restroom and they made sure he came back to our table. The service was excellent.
Yes, the days that we drove we had to pay to park. But even with it being $14.00 a day to park we were saving money because our hotel was much cheaper than the Disney hotels. Ours was $79.00 a night and it included breakfast which also saved us money. The hotel did have a free shuttle to Disney, which dropped off at Epcot so the days we went to Epcot we just rode it. We could have rode it everyday but it was easier to drive and be able to leave when you want and not have to wait, but it had two pick up times in the evening.

Can you say HAPPY DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally booked after 3 weeks of planning! I can't believe it! :cool1:

November 20-26th, what a wonderful Thanksgiving it will be!

It will be me, DH, our 3 DD's (5, 21 months and 11 months when we leave) and my 82 year old grandmother. Can you believe she is going?:faint:Can't wait to

We will be staying at the Port Orleans Riverside.

Just a little background. DH and I lived in Orlando, and went to Disney about once a week. So, paying for this trip is going to be strange! Never even bought a ticket! Of course totally worth it for our DD's!:dance3:

Can't wait to get to know everyone and plan, plan, plan!

ADR's, May 24th! :woohoo:

Our dates have changed :goodvibes Now we're going the 11th to the 23rd of November to have an extra day.

And what page were the helpful links on?

Thanks to everyone about the information to the MVMCP. I read somewhere (maybe on allears) that Liberty Tree Tavern might be open and have a special menu, has anyone else heard of that? What about the Osbourne Lights? When do they start? What time do they start? Is it every night? Sorry if this has already been asked. And I know this has been asked on other threads, but when are holiday decorations up in the resorts?

And one last question, my mom isn't too excited about Food and Wine Festival and only wants to go on that last Saturday... :scared1: I know that that's a bad idea, but is there anyway to make it better? Any tips or tricks? When do the food listings come out because I thought maybe if we knew what we wanted ahead of time and just went straight to those kiosks that might help.

And I know this has been asked on other threads, but when are holiday decorations up in the resorts?None of the Christmas plans have been released yet, but the Osborne Lights started on 11/10 last year. They usually start around dusk, and go until after park closing every night. Christmas decorations at the parks are up by nid November, with the MK being done in time for the first MVMCP (11/10 last year). I haven't heard about a special menu at LTT, but it is one of the restaurants usually open during the parties.

Other than the dates, the F&W details haven't been released for 2010. But, you could get a pretty good idea of what booths will be around based on last year's info. It's here on the DIS under EVENTS. If your mom isn't sure about F&W, I beg you, don't take her just the last Saturday night- it will be insane!! Try to get her out during the week- she will have a bigger chance of enjoying what the Fest has to offer, and may decide to head back another night.

Have a great trip!! :cool1:

Have a great trip!! :cool1:

THanks for the information, we're only planning to be at DHS for one day of the trip so I was just wondering if we should plan for the beginning or the end of the trip but it seems like the Osborne Lights will be up the whole time. And I know no one can really know when decorations will go up at the resorts, but I had heard that they go up later than MK, so I was wondering when they had gone up other years to know whether to expect to see any or not before Thanksgiving. I don't suppose you can view the deluxe resorts' gingerbread houses before they're finished, can you?

We're only going to be at Disney for the last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of F&W, and I know they're all bad times. My mom was hoping to just go to the hard ticket MVMCP on Friday, and then on Saturday, we were thinking of going to F&W when it opens and only staying through maybe 2-3pm because a friend of mine is meeting us at the resort and then we were going to go to la Nouba. I wonder if it's even worth it to go to F&W??

If we really enjoyed F&W on Saturday, we could go back on Sunday, but my mom only really goes to Disney for the rides. I, on the other hand, love food also and am an adventurous eater. BUT when we go to Disney World in Nov. I will just have gotten back from volunteering in LIberia for a year so sending me to F&W is like sending a starving person to a smorgasbord (no I'm not starving, Liberian food is nasty but I eat it). So maybe going to F&W just Sat morning is just a tease?? But I have looked at many people's pics from previous F&W's and could narrow down some choices. Hmmm

Hi there! If you can put your info into the template on page 3, post 31 (first one on the page), that would be awesome! Then I can copy and put it into the first post. Thanks! :goodvibes

The info's on the first post (31) on page 3. :goodvibes I'm headed there now to add more stuff I've found from several books that I've got here at home - different phone numbers and stuff like that. Enjoy!

I've added a bunch more information to the post on page three: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=35482027&postcount=31. I've gathered the information from some guidebooks that I've got here. They're not the latest and greatest so I would suggest you try the numbers before printing everything off and taking it with you to be on the safe side. If things have changed, please let me know and I'd be happy to update the list accordingly. :goodvibes

I don't suppose you can view the deluxe resorts' gingerbread houses before they're finished, can you? I think people can visit while the Gingerbread House is being built at GF- they don't keep it "under wraps", as far as I know. That would be cool to watch, actually!! I know that the resorts usually tend to get decorated a bit later than the parks, but you will probably get to see at least some stuff going up/already up.

We're only going to be at Disney for the last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of F&W, and I know they're all bad times. Hmmm I'd still go, even if just for a few hours. You can get some good stuff in the time you have. Maybe if your Mom isn't interested, you could leave her in FW and head off on your own for a bit to seek out some goodies.

Thanks for the information again. :goodvibes I'd love to see the GF gingerbread house while it's being built. I watched Samantha Brown on the travel channel watching it be built once.

And you're probably right that I should go to F&W. I'd probably be disappointed if I was there while it was going on and didn't eat something. I just need to have realistic expectations of how many lines we can get through in the time we have.
