Yes, I know it's petty, but I'm getting so jealous of all my friends who are going on vacation! Beaches, mountains, lakes, DISNEY.... you name it, I'm reading about all these fabulous vacations on their Facebook statuses and hearing about them from my friends.

I want to go away too! Heck, I don't even care if it's a night in a hotel in the next town over, I just want to get out of my podunk town! It doesn't help that we had to cancel a Disney trip.

Also, please note - this thread is actually meant to be a light-hearted pity party. Please refrain from telling me how much worse things can be. Yes, I know how much worse things can be. My life has been pretty miserable this past year with illness, deaths, paycuts.... But dangit, I feel like I'm entitled to a little whine about wanting a vacation! (need a tantrum or stomping feet smiley here )

Who else wants a vacation and isn't getting it?

i was just in disney last month, and i'm jealous of everyone going on vacation now, lol. i've already got my next trip in the planning stages!

Can you even swing a short one or two night getaway, maybe not too far away???? I find that even a very short change of scenery helps.

I live in CT and we have been known to drive up to Freeport ME and stay in the Econolodge for $69 and eat cheap lobster and feel like we're really livin'!!!!

. I can remember when my in-laws were sick and we couldn't really go anywhere how overwhelming it seemed....

I'm here to commiserate with you.

We were supposed to go to Hawaii this year, as a matter of fact, I still have to call the hotels to cancel.:guilty: My husband has been sick, in & out of hospitals all year, actually for the past few years. We've been to Disney about 12 times, went in 07 & last year also. That's when we said that's it for awhile, we'll go other places & revisit WDW in about 5 years or so.

Well, we were both so down about him being sick so much that the thought of going to Disney came up again. Not that Hawaii or other places aren't great but we have such fond memories of WDW. We were hoping that by Sept he'd be well enough but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. So no vacations for us this year also.

No vacation or break here either. DH's job shipped him off until November so I'm packing our house and getting it ready to put on the market sometime this month all by my lonesome. We have to be in our new house by the first week of August (DD's school starts then) and time is flying by much faster than I'd like. Oh, and the new house is 5 hours farther away from Disney.

All my friends seem to be jetting off to fun, exciting places this summer and make sure to post the pictures on Facebook or their websites to share. Totally not fair. :rotfl:

I do hope you get a chance to get away even if it's only for a mini-break this summer.

Aw you poor thing. I mean it. I live for my vacations and would sincerely mourn the loss of one. It does sound spoiled, I realize, but I do vacay for my sanity. I hope you can find some way to get away and relax somehow.

If it is true that misery loves (a) "company" then lets start a huge multi-national conglomerate! hehehehehee

we are at about 18 months since our last visit and are hoping to be able to go by the time our tenth anniversary rolls around two years from now!

In the mean time, we went camping once again this summer. We have not been since we bought our house 5 years ago. And you know what? it is pretty hard to get a reservation at our favorite campground. I think a lot of people are getting back to grass roots fun.

we are also looking for more local activities. 4th of july fests, maybe go stand on a glass shelf 103 stories aboive the chicago streets when the nieces and nephews come to visit.

Mikeeee

Been there, done that.. in fact I cancelled my vacation yesterday :guilty:

No vacation for us, either! My "away" trip was to go take care of my grandmother for a week-she is bedridden and has dementia. Nothing quite like preparing pureed meals while repeating the same answer 200x per day! I also have the bulk of duties for DH's mom- but at least she is in a very nice Alzheimer's center so it is not so day to tday. Worse yet, DH doesn't teach all summer, the 3 younger kids are home all day, but I have to get up and go to work each day- and then clean up after the gruesome-4-some when I get home. When I get after the kids to pick up after themselves he defends them saying that we should cut them a break because we can't afford a vacation this year......(whine) how come I don't get a break!?!(whine).....

.....okay, start planning for a trip next year. (deep cleansing breath!).

Hugs and a cyber margarita for you!

No vacation for us this summer either and may be canceling the one in my sig for March 2010:sad1:

I have been trying and trying to come up with at least a weekend at the beach; but with dh's work finally picking up a bit he just can't take off even one day right now (too scared of it bottoming out again!)

To make us feel better, I have been planning lots of day trips. Local water park, driving to Pensacola for the day, day in NOLA. We come back that night, dh gets rest and back to work on time, we get to go somewhere.

JR6ooo4, do you camp in a tent or camper? If a tent, is purchasing everything really expensive?

Hopefully you will get to go away too! I know it's tough when everyone around you is going on a vacation, especially when you've had to cancel one. Sorry your past year has been so tough. I hope things start to turn around for you!

:wizard:

O.K. Mushy, I'm joining your light hearted pity party too. I bet you're drinking a goood ole glass of lemondae right now, huh because when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Hmm, maybe you can turn off the cell, etc. Order some take out, have a nice relaxng bath, rent a few movies etc.

We too are having no vacation but I am going to Chez Hospital instead on friday, where hmm, I am getting gourmet meals served daily, such amenities as iv's, pills etc. You get my vacation this year:lmao:,

Hoping your party wont last too long, but its o.k. to vent, its so therapeutic.

Getting away, even just near-by overnight, is a great idea, if you can pull it off.

Otherwise, plan an evening of take-out, rent a movie and don't do anything that's routine around the house - give yourself the evening "off".

I hear ya - there were years when we couldn't fit in a vacation, and it wasn't fun.

I'll join. Except petty pity party isn't about vacation (considering I leave in 3 days for Vegas), but I am jealous of the people I know who own a boat. I've always wanted a boat. Now that I'm on facebook, many of the people post "had a great time out on the boat this weekend" and stuff like that, and I'm sooooo jealous.

Hopefully, I'll win BIG in Vegas this week and I can buy a boat.

Mushy, if I do win big (like a few million big) I'll even pay for a trip for you to Disney World, you can pick the resort. So keep your fingers crossed for me.

*please do not burst my bubble people. Yes, I realize I probably won't win big in Vegas, I probably won't win at all. And yes I realize I'm probably just throwing my money away, but it's kind of fun thinking about all the things I will spend my millions on if I do win.

When DH and I would feel that way, we would try to go to Atlantic City (3 hour drive) just for the night. In fact, we might be gone less than 24 hours! But it was really good just to get away and then all the day to day issues seem far away for that time. When we come back, we can better deal with things.

Any chance you could get away for a night?

Okay. I am joining also. I just this morning mentioned to someone that DH and myself are on vacation next week, but not going any place. I have posted on the disboards to find nice places that we can visit that are within about a 2 hour drive from home. That way we can drive, visit and come back home. I just really feel like I have to be able to say that we did something while we were off. I have gotten some really good suggestions might I say and I think we will be doing one of them.

We did visit DW for 3 nights in April while watching DD march through MK, so I know we did something. I also see all of DDs friends going to beaches, camps etc... multiple times through the summer. Don't get me wrong... I am happy for them and they all deserve it. I just wish we could do it too. I feel bad for DD because she really does not get to go anywhere this summer. We are hoping for a Disney vacation next summer for her graduation, but that is all contingent upon the economy and our jobs.

I also know that things could be worse. I will be having surgery on my eye real soon and my brother is fighting cancer. I am glad that others are "whining" with me.

Just wanted to join , I am tired of making lemonade out of the lemons LOL

I say you bring the whine I will bring the cheese :thumbsup2

I'll join.

I got sick in July 2007 (next week it'll be two years. ) Because of medical bills and travel costs, we can't afford vacation. I went to Disneyland for 5 days last August for my Make a Wish trip, which didn't cost us very much. Other than that, I haven't been on a vacation since January 2007. :(

Stupid poor economy causes us to do "staycations". We hit a few amusement parks, but no beaches. All I want to do is stay in a hotel for a night!

Mumom, you made me laugh! I always say if I hit a bit lottery I'm going to do a big DIS WDW trip. :lmao: Yep, there goes my money, right out the window!

I'm so glad some of you understand -- not that I'm glad you're in this position too, but just that I'm not the only one not going on a big trip.

I kind of like the idea of a mini trip. We're not that far from Lake Erie, which could be affordable. Hopefully we can do a day or two before summer's over.
