Yes, it seems to be just luck. On our December trip, my husband and I sat there. We were just entering the building and a CM asked if we wanted to. (You know that it doesn't make a difference as far as making it into the Hot Seat - everyone plays for that).
I was there on Father's Day once and I am a father and they asked me if I was a father while I was in line and then they pulled me out and gave me one od the floor seats. Of course, the floor seats are a great view but don't give you any advantage in geting into the hot seat.
each seat there has buttons in front of them labeled a b c d ,etc.. they put a scramble up and you put them in order, just like on the real show.. the first person in the audience who gets it right in the quickest time gets picked.. everyone has an equal shot..
Personnelly the floor sits are harder to play for which changes your ablitiy to hit the buttons faster and get into the hot seat. I always choose not to sit there when asked any more.

Yes. And yes.
I think the bloom is off the rose however--. When it was first opened it was mobbed from show to show. These days, CM's are outside almost begging folks to come in. Last time we did it (Oct last year) it wasn't even 1/2 full for the first contest of the day.

That's fine by me! The last two trips, my husband and I both made it into the Hot Seat. We have so many sets of pins, hats and polo shirts, we are running out of family members to give them to!
Good!!
We enjoyed it the first time we went to DL, and last time it was closed, so we didn't get to do it.
Maybe if it is only half full, we actually have a chance at getting in the hot-seat!
Whooohooo!
1. Get there early. 30 minutes or earlier.
2. Ask the CM at the turnstiles. I politely ask every time and have gotten to sit in the seats twice out of perhaps ten times that I've asked.
3. Preference will be given to handicapped guests. I think children are not allowed in the seats, but I could be wrong.
4. If there are still seats available, the CM will ask you to sit in the waiting area to the right before being allowed into the studio.
5. The seats are more comfortable and the buttons are not all that much more difficult to operate than the regular seats. The view is better and you will be seen on the big screen. And it is definitely exciting to be that close to the action.
