I usually check to see what the dollar is at a few times a week and sometimes daily. I always hold off to see if it's at the highest, i usually dont get much luck though

Who else is obsessed with the Canadian/US dollar?

I check the exchange every day, sometimes several times a day if I'm near my computer. The last time it hit .98 I thought I'd wait till it got 'better', but its tanked since then....so now I'm waiting for .97 or .98 again, then I'm going to buy!
I see you are going on vacation soon, so I hope the dollar improves for you. We won't be going till early next year, so fortunately, we have time to wait.

Yea i trying to hold off, but i am probably going to cash some in this week and then more on my next pay cheque.

I go across the line an average of 2x per month so i am always always exchanging money.

Yea 97 isnt too bad, i went in 2008 and i believe it was in the 80's which was terrible. Its weird it seems like our dollar does well if our gas prices are through the roof.

I constantly stalk the dollar! I check XE a few times a day, it's more like an automatism now, when I open a browser I do an instant stop on XE. Maybe I should change my homepage? :rotfl:

Last week I paid of my September trip on the day it was just over 0.96 (got 1.062 on the card, not bad), and got a bunch of cash the week-end before that at only 1.04$. I have 2 US trips planned in the next 2 months, and emptied out my US cash lately, so my timing looks good!

"what's the next step up for stalking?!"

Ummm some unwanted harassment lol

I wish i could be paid in USD, i think i spend more USD than CAD. On the positive note some of the US states dont make us Canadians pay tax SCORE so i am very happy with that.:goodvibes

I watch the Global Morning news, and faithfully watch Chris Carters seg, watching the $. When it goes up, I put some in my USD acct.
I use it for spending $ on Vacay. I don't have a USD credit card, so air, car & hotel goes on my Visa. But the good think is paying for my trip with Visa gives me trip insurance, interruption/cancellation, etc.

Whenever its over .95 (The Ted Rule)... if I don't do something over the weekend (ie out for beer with the buddies), then I buy $50 US and drop it into the US dollar account. Assuming you can do this every second week, you end up with $1,300US in a year :) .... now if I only went to Disney once a year, this would work. :rolleyes1

I check it a few times a day now that we are getting closer to our vacation - I am waiting to see what is going to happen with the retail sales data coming out tomorrow:P Here's hoping the loonie goes up over the weekend!

I check it several times a day through the work week. I am really hoping it improves.

I definitely used to do this. Constantly waited too long....frustrated etc.

Now I just have an automatic transfer in my bank account on a weekly basis. It is a fixed amount of C$. Because it is a small amount, I have got used to not having that money and we are automatically saving for vacation. When I look at the various amounts we get on transfer, I find that it doesn't really change that much and on average we are getting great rates. If it hits close to par, then I just transfer a little extra.

Stress gone....vacation money there without so much pain.....

We also got a US$ visa card so that we can charge on vacation without the service charges on exchange. That gets paid from the US Account.

I check it every morning because of my clients who have to or prefer to book in US currency. I give them a heads up if the dollar is doing well in case they want to throw some additional payments towards their bookings or pay the balance if the dollar is doing well and they can save some money.

anyone remember the "good old days" of the 55 cents $ :)

It cost as much now to stay 2 weeks at a deluxe as it did then for 1 week at a value :)

I do. I went to WDW for the Millenium Celebration in January 2000 and I paid about 48% on the credit card during the trip. Ouch. It was years before I could afford to return.

On a side note, I remember seeing a little display for the Disney Vacation Club during my trip. I checked it out about a couple of years later when the dollar was flirting with 1.60 (post-9/11) and a DVC membership would have cost over $100/point in CAD.:scared1:. When we actually bought in May 2007 we paid less than $100/point CAD.

I think I could handle the mid-.80's on a long term basis, but I never want to see the .60's again.

I do as I get paid in Us dollars. However, I want the Us dollar to be strong that I get a raise.

I was stalking it up until Monday, trip is now paid off & we have all our cash so no need to stalk anymore :)

:yay:Bought $600 this morning for $626.

I can remember buying US$ at $1.64 CAN so this is great.
