lots of threads about the DLRR.
I rode the enclosed rail cars when the train only stopped at Mainstreet Station and the other train which had open and enclosed slat cattle cars stopped at Frontierland station (now NOS).
They had two sets of tracks infront of the Main Street Station and at Frontierland Station where the two trains would pass each other.

Nice trivia about the DLRR. I've been going to DL since '65 at least, but I don't remember the railroad cars looked like that.

I'm thinking how the berm is set up, and it is hard for me to imagine there being two tracks. Can you explain that a bit more?

there were two tracks only at Mainstreet Station...it is still there where the hand car is parked. that section of track used to be connected by switches at either end of Main Street Station....the train that only stopped at Frontierland station would pass on that outside track...
then at Frontierland there was a track outside of the current track...again with switches so the mainstreet train could pass. AT that time those were the only stops...and each train only stopped at the one station.
at Frontierland Station the loading platform was on the left instead of the current right side for a period of time before it was moved to the inside track...:)
CKH usually pulled the cattle/open cars and EPR pulled the enclosed cars.
everywhere else there were only single tracks...no Fantasyland station (toon town now) and no tomorrowland station back then.
Tracks have been moved outward a few times over the years to accomodate more attractions. Like Toontown, area by Splash etc.

THANK YOU!!! It amazes me that there is still so much to learn about the Original Magic Kingdom. :)
