Now that Thanksgiving is over I am looking to set my holiday menu. I am pretty sure we are having xmas at my house....maybe a xmas eve cocktail party and an xmas day brunch and dinner. Would love to see some new ideas~~!

I did buy a couple new xmas cookbooks over the weekend.

We have a few friends over for New Year's eve. Just a small gathering last year I made homemade beef sirloin chili and had hotdogs for the kiddos (mine). My DH made homemade oyster stew and we had the usually chips, dips, etc. He makes Mojitos to drink. He has a recipe he got years ago from somewhere but we use a coconut rum and he makes a simple syrup from lime juice and fresh mint. Yum Yum.

He'll probably make oyster stew again this year but I haven't figured out what else I'm making. In addition to the mojitos I found frozen buckets at Wegmans - I believe they have eggnog, chocolate martini, strawberry daquiri, and mojito. I want to try one of them.

Last year was the first year we haven't hosted NYE in a long time...we may do that again - but we usually have friends over and not family. We do the platters of finger foods:
cheese/crackers
wings
dips and chips
cuban sands
meat and rollls of some sort

and champagne, beer and wine....:)

and fireworks of course....our house is known for fireworks!

We usually do a holiday party. We usually have chilli, meatballs, and some of those hor douves (sp?) that you buy frozen at Sams club or BJ's. Cheese and crackers also. Stuff like that
For Christmas dinner we always have ham, mashed potatoes, carrots, bread.

We are hosting our Sunday School class Christmas party. Our house is decorated in mid-century style, so our party is a "Retro/50s" party. It's always a pot luck, so our twist is that everyone should bring something from their mom's or grandma's recipe box. Looking for those great cassaroles, jello salads, etc. (Hoping no one brings Spam!)

I'm having a cookie exchange in Mid-December. I'm serving heavy appetizers. So far the menu is:

Artichoke Spinach Dip w/crostini
Chili Cheese Dip w/Scoops
Veggie Spring Rolls
Port Wine Cheeseball w/crackers
Mini Puff Pastries
Three Cheese Grilled Panini
Bruschetta Grilled Panini
Veggies w/Ranch Dip.

As for Christmas day, I always make breakfast for DH and my mom and then we head to the family gathering. Since I did Thanksgiving I think my Uncle is hosting Christmas, which kind of stinks as we're halfway to Iowa and he's almost in Wisconsin! NOT looking forward to that drive!

Christmas eve, we always do City Chicken's. (on a skewer, place cubed pork and veal, bread, fry, and bake)

and, for the Christmas party, just finger foods, cubed filet and chicken k-bobs, little quiches, cheeses and veggies, and cookies

We're having our families over to our house Christmas day. Nothing fancy, though. We're driving back from WDW on Christmas eve so we won't be in the mood to travel christmas day! Our families live about 1.5 hours away.

For the past three years we have hosted a before-Christmas gathering for several other couples. DH makes a huge pot of minestrone and I pick up a bunch of different olives, cheeses & breads from Wegman's. Our guests bring wine and desserts. It is a nice change from traditional holiday fare (roasts & spuds).

Christmas Day I will have my Mom over for roast pork with all the trimmings. We will probably host a few small gatherings too (seems like we are ALWAYS the hosts). My freezer is stocked with hors d'oeuvres from BJs.

My son with Down Syndrome just informed me last night when I told him we were having Christmas Dinner here that we were having a nice big Christmas TURKEY!! :rotfl2:

I begged for ham to no avail.....he is just so darn cute and loves to do the shopping so turkey it is!!

We also switch off a Cookie Cousins party. My turn this year. Lots of sugar cookie dough, sprinkles, and colored icing with a HUGE mess to clean up afterwards I love it. Making pasta for that one.

Well, I offered to host MIL's side of DH's family for Christmas Day. My MIL and FIL are in the process of moving to FIL's mother's house to live with her so she doesn't have to move to ha home yet (she's 94.) We weren't sure what state the house would be in at that point.

Only problem being we have Christmas at my mom's almost an hour away that morning too. So, I'll take any suggestions on menu.

DH requested ham, so I'll put that in my new electric roaster on our enclosed back porch that morning before we leave. I'm thinking about putting it in one of those turkey roasting bags with the pineapple and juices so hopefully it won't dry out with me not being here to baste it most of the morning.

Everyone will bring a dish, I just have to decide what else I'm making.
