Who is your favourite actor or actress and why

I just love Clint Eastwood. As a kid I never cared for him. I'm now 45 and saw him 10 yrs ago in The Bridges of Madison County and just fell in love with him.

I also love Meryl Streep. She can do anything!

I love Adam Sandler! He is hilarious:lmao: Some of his movies are kinda dumb, but he is hilarious. I also like Josh Hollaway (Sawyer on LOST) and the guy that plays Ben on LOST...his eyes are creepy:eek:
Actress...hmm, I like Drew Barrymore and Evangeline Lilly (Kate on LOST) and Reese Witherspoon

Oh, I like Jim Carrey too! I liked the Tom Cruise of Top Gun, not so much these days though.

Anne Hathaway, Kate Winslet and Stockard Channing always seem to do a good job in their roles.

Colin Firth, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Ryan Gosling, Leo Dicaprio, Ryan Philppe(sp?) and of course DeNiro always seem to hit the mark.

If you include those who have retired or passed on I'd have to say Ida Lupino, Irene Dunne, Maureen O'Hara and of course Mr. Jimmy Stewart.

::yes:: Haven't watched Titanac in forever:laughing: Love that movie!

George Clooney b/c he's profoundly blessed with looks, charm AND talent
Kate Winslet b/c of her amazing talent and beauty

Other living people I really like: Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, Robert Duvall, Ray Liotta, Al Pacino, Johnny Depp, Sally Field, Leonardo di Caprio

Favorites who have passed: Paul Newman, Gregory Peck, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant

Actresses: Reese Witherspoon, Rachel McAdams, Kate Winslet, and Nicole Kidman
Actors: Leonardo DiCaprio, James Marsden, Gene Wilder, and Tim Curry

:)

Gosh there are so many to list.

For men I like Ben Barnes, Colin Firth, Hugh Jackman, Orlando Bloom, Gerard Butler...can you tell I go for men with accents?

For women I like Anne Hathaway, Kiera Knightly, Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock.

Actors: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Richard Gere

Actresses: Kate Winslet, Reese Witherspoon, and Jennifer Aniston

no absolute favorites but i very much admire-

spencer tracey
jimmy stewart (and i feel tom hanks is as close as we currently have to his scope and style of acting)
kevin spacey (his performance in 'american beauty' is phenominal)
william h. macy
peter o'toole

kathryn hepburn
rosiland russel
rene zellwiger (i'de like to see her stretch and do some serious stuff-she's capable of it)
cathryn o'hara (so versitile)

Jimmy Stewart. Great actor, great man. How many Hollywood types enlist, get rejected then try enlisting again to fight for their country? The man had more character in his pinky then most.

You said it! To me Tom Hanks is this generations Jimmy Stewart.

As for actress, the best in my opinion is Cate Blanchett.

For pure talent I'd go with Philip Seymour Hoffman. I'm constantly amazed by his range of roles and the intensity in which he plays them.
I also enjoy Kevin Kline because we have the same taste in movies - if he's in it, I know I'm going to enjoy the movie.
For women I think Meryl Streep is the most talented.

I have to agree with Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Also love Johnny Depp. I really like Paul Giammtti as well. And Adrien Brodie.

For Actresses, I'm a big post Titanic fan of Kate Winslet. After Titanic, I was ready to cast her off but she has since made up for it big time! It seems with a lot of actresses, they wow me with one or two movies, but others are completely lackluster. Charlize Theron is a good example of that. As for underated actresses, Parker Posey is great.

OT note: I always think it's so funny when the question asks for a single answer (who is your favorite actor) and we list 10! :rotfl:

I'm going to challenge myself to stay true to the question. Not too hard....hands down it is George Clooney! For the obvious reasons as well as that, to me, he is the epitome of a movie STAR. When you look up movie star in the dictionary, his picture is there.

I love him in a good, quirky comedy (O Brother, Burn After Reading). Not a fan of the romantic comedy featuring him because...it's just too easy!

I have to agree with Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

An interesting thing about Phillip Seymour Hoffman - One of the websites I frequent is the Crazy Days and Nights one. It's where "blind items" are posted about certain actors and actresses - usually it's VERY juicy gossip but they don't give you the names, and everyone is trying to guess who the gossip is about. Months ago there was an item about an A list actor who is legally blind, but no one outside the industry knows about it, as he wants to keep it a secret, so they work around it in the films he does. The majority guessed that it was Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I watched him in "Pirate Radio" and think they may have been right. On the website they do reveals twice a year - 4th of July and Christmas - I'm hoping this one is revealed.

....uhhhh, HUGH JACKMAN....

That would be interesting. I'll have to check that out. I was so happy when he won the oscar for Capote, simply because he deserves so much more recognition than what he's gotten.

How was that movie by the way? I saw the trailer for it and I kinda want to see it.

If you had asked me this when I was 16 years old, I would have said "Christian Slater"...because I was young, dumb, and thought being a hottie equated to being a great actor.

Ask me now and the answer is that I have no favorites. But there are actors and actresses whom I think do a killer job no matter the role and never diappoint. For example:

Gary Oldman....seriously, have you ever watched him and not completely bought what he was selling in that role. The man is like a chameleon!

Meryl Streep...enough said.

Ian McKellan...whether a wizard, super-villainous mutant or the former Nazi-next-door, Sir Ian never disappoints.

John C Reilly...he can do comedy, and he can do dramatic. Apparently he can do vampires too (sans sparkle thankyouverymuch!)

Anthony Hopkins
Deniro
Pacino
Tom Hanks
Mel Gibson
Julia Roberts
Glenn Close

And on and on.

My favorite actress is Jennifer Garner. She just seems so normal and down to earth to me. I still want to be Sydney Bristow! I also love Lauren Graham, Amy Adams, and Kate Winslet. Meryl Streep is also fabulous in pretty much everything she does.

For guys hands down Leonardo DiCaprio. I am so impressed with his and Kate's post Titanic career! I also really like Ewan MacGregor, George Clooney and Josh Duhamel.

I watch a lot of TV, so I tend to lean towards TV actors more than "movie stars".
