Ok, a strange coincidence. I saw this thread today and your post above. "Great find!" I thought to myself. Then as I was reading something else or googling something, I came to a link for the following thread:

Check out post #24!

We discuss this on a regular basis at work it seems. CM's cant even work it out however we have a couple "theories" that we seem to agree on however no official word from anyone.

What is Disney's reason for keeping some characters rare while making others overly available?

I can see that some costumes may be harder to manage (Dumbo), but why is The Queen from Snow White, Malificent, etc. rare? Not everyone digs the princesses, some of us like the Villains.

Is there some advantage to Disney for not making as many characters as possible available? What is their reason for keeping some characters rare?

We were lucky enough on our first trip in 2005 to see Max right at the front of WDW near the train, he was my son's favorite character at the time and we literally JUST got to MK when we saw him, so that was exciting.

This past June we saw Marie in Epcot near the dancing fountains, also a treat, and Jiminy Cricket at Conservation Station in AK...my cell plays "When You Wish Upon a Star" and he LOVED that when I played it for him.

Our best thing was a non-Fantasmic night at HS when we were in the animation building to see the UP characters...they brought out TONS of charcters: the Evil Queen, Queen of Hearts, Governor Radcliffe, Mary Poppins, Frozone, etc....it was a buffet of characters! We were going mental!

Even though my kids are 12 & 16, we all enjoy hanging out with the characters...we square-danced with the Country Bears in Epcot and I had an ummmmm "interesting" :scared1: experience with 3 Cabelleros Donald there, too, in June that is now family folklore....we act like wackos with the characters (my husband used to be a mascot for a business so he digs it) and get such great reactions. At MK in June, cowboy Goofy took our camera and took like 10 pictures, icluding am extreme close-up of himself. It is stuff like that thats so magical!!!:wizard:

I'm in the process of adding onto my scrapbook autograph book. Who is with Thumper?

Thx.:goodvibes

Miss Bunny!

We saw them both earlier this month, a new one for us. They were just adorable.

I have met some 'rare' charecters in the past unfortuantely don't have pics of all of them due to loss of computer a few years ago, but my "rare" meet and greets have been:

Jafar
Cruella
Snow Queen
Hercules and some other guy from the movie, maybe one of the bad guys?
All of the above where one lucky day at DS at the crossroads a few years ago.

Queen of Hearts
Koda
Kim Possible and Ron

From a very reliable site:

"Princess Half Marathon: if you're going to be around the weekend of March 7th and want to meet some rare (and one SUPER RARE) character, I highly encourage you to participate in the Princess Half Marathon. I would, except for that whole running part."

I saw Marie in January near France in Epcot.

I hope she sticks around until December when we can see her again! We saw her in Jan 08, and it was one of our trip highlights. That my daughter's and my favorite Disney movie!

On March 5, there's going to be a D23 special event at MK, which includes apearances by several rare characters. I'm not attending, but I'm excited to hear who the surprise characters will be!

I've seen Meg, altough it may have been a very rare sighting. She was at Epcot World Showcase on the bridge between France and the UK. She looked great, it was awesome. This was just this past April.

You know who I miss that I haven't seen in a very long time...Cruella DeVile. She was totally awesome.

I'd love to see Meg again! She's my . I'd even settle for something in the gift shop. I can never find anything anymore... My goal for every trip is to have my picture taken with her or just find something with her on it in a gift shop! My wife knows even she can't compete with Meg!

I have been to the park several times and never seen Jafar.

He appears for photos after the Villains stage show at MNSSHP.

He also has been appearing in the Animation Building in that afternoon random character set. :thumbsup2

Walt or Roy Disney would just be impossible.

I think Walt makes regular appearances still in front of the castle, right around the middle of the hub. And Roy can sometimes be seen sitting on a bench in Town Square.

They did seem kind of stiff, though.
