Who is the nicest TV star's you have met and who are the not so nice?

Diane Sawyer was very friendly, so much so that it actually surprised me.

Mario Batali, not so much.

Friends who met and flew George H.W. Bush said he was nothing short of the perfect gentleman. They loved him!

Patrick Dempsey went to our church in Maine and he was very sweet. Never would have known he was a celebrity (other than the perfect hair :rotfl2:).

Met Henry Winkler, Ron Howard, and Robin Williams as a kid. All very great guys...of course that was a long time ago. But I still remember tossing a baseball with Henry and Ron.

I thought I might have already posted to this thread, so I scanned through it so I wouldn't bore anyone by telling my story twice (you may be bored enough once!)

In March 1989, I sat next to Michael Caine at the theatre in London, with Roger Moore in the seat on the other side of him. I asked if he (Michael Caine) would sign DH's program as it was his birthday, and MC then went off on a monologue about people born under the sign of Pisces. Obviously DH was a Pisces and I mentioned that I am as well. Turns out that he and his wife are both Pisces and wasn't it amazing that they (and we) hadn't killed each other, being the same star signs. He had everyone in the seats around us in stitches and when his party went to the lobby at the interval to get drinks, the woman in front of DH turned around and asked if we had paid extra for our tickets to sit next to Michael Caine! (Actually we had purchased them at a deep discount at the Navy Exchange!)

Bored yet? If not, I've got another story:

I doubt that anyone here will know him, but we arranged as a birthday present for DD#2 to meet Clive Carter, a British actor who was playing Inspector Javert in Les Miserables at the same time frame. He was her favorite actor and was planning to leave the show soon, so we mentioned that we would check back with the theatre to be sure we got tix for his last performance, Two weeks later he called our house to tell us the date and that he'd leave a ticket for DD! Still not sure how he got our phone number, but we paid for our own tix and went to the show. DD was in sixth row center of the orchestra; we were second row right of the dress circle - and it turned out that we were sitting right behind Clive's parents!

At our initial meeting with Clive (he invited us to his dressing room), he was so kind to DD, spending most of his resting time between the matinee and evening performances chatting with her, having his picture taken with her, and he even gave her a birthday card and a box of chocolates. She still (24 years later!) has the card; she finally threw away the candy after about ten years.

If you're still reading, I hope you enjoyed it,

Queen Colleen

The only one I have ever met was Larry David. He was really nice.

I would figured the Busch brothers would have been switched, I'm really shocked about Rusty

Why would you be surprised about Rusty?

1 of the nicest people I have ever met is not a celebrity and sold floors and carpet. her exhusband works in NASCAR and she still has other friends who do too. She has met just about all of that list save for Joey Logano and maybe Kyle. But she'll happily confirm 99% of that list as right on the money.

Rusty Wallace is ALL ego, no nice(the whole world should suck up to him, but he's settled for ESPN doing that) and Jeff Gordon is indeed a sweetheart. And she can't understand how Robby Gordon has any fans at all because he's not nice either.

I have met George H.W. and Barbara and they were both nice, but it was a quick handshake at the convention expo in Philly and they went on their way.

And FTR: I think she was right about the Dr. comment although it may seemed rude. She simply donated enough money that the hospital decided to honor her.
If she were Marlo Thomas of St. Jude's that would be a better choice to thank as I understand she spends quite a lot of time in the hospital with the children.

Okay, my story is about someone from television and comedy, but not a big tv star. Back in January, we met Jimmy Pardo after his standup show (he has the Never Not Funny podcast and does the opening act before Conan tapings - he's also done some bits on Conan). He is the single nicest person I have ever met. When you enjoy someone's work and meet them and they are super nice, it makes it that much better. He now has two giant fans for life just because he was so super nice.

Has anyone here met Jeff Corwin, the conservationist? I attended a talk that he gave at the Smithsonian and could not tell what he is like in real life. I would not be surprised if someone said that he was the nicest guy ever and I also would not be surprised if someone said that he is a total jerk.

I would love to meet Mykel Hawke, the host of Man, Woman, Wild. He seems like a truly decent and fascinating guy.

Since some listed are not TV I will add mine:

LaToya Jackson..it was about 1989 and the summer trip for 8th graders to Washington DC and NYC. We were in NY at the time in Chinatown when my friend screamed and ran up to this woman. I thought at the time she was a..uh "lady of the night" :rotfl: Turns out it was LaToya Jackson. She was very sweet especially after getting swarmed by a huge group of teenagers. She posed for pictures and chatted with everyone for a while.

Debbie Gibson..very sweet and friendly. Chatted with me for a while and was nice to everyone around

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (**Warning..their website generally has their music playing..just in case people are at work/with speakers on and click** http://www.bbvd.com/theatre_home.html) .

I have met all of the members on several occasions (for a Disney connection they do some of the music in the Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation). They are all absolutely the nicest guys. The last time we saw them we took our boys to their concert and they all took the time to chat with the kids, ask them questions and Karl the saxophone player was chatting with my oldest who told him that he wants to play sax because of him. They got high fives and fist bumps from them (the kids adore them as well). Such great guys.

In 1993 DH and I met Margaret Cho and Carrot Top (before he had the surgery). Both were very nice and friendly after the show.

My Dad knew Alice Cooper before he was Alice Cooper and he is a local guy who is known for being a nice guy.

DH met Kirstie Alley during her Cheers days..as far as I know she was very nice.

I met Will Ferrell, and he was awesome! He actually took the time to answer a few questions, and he's really down to earth! :thumbsup2

I also met Penny Marshall, and she was AWFUL!! She was rude and acted like she just didn't have the time to even look at you, let alone talk to you. She rolled her eyes and walked away. It was disappointing.

I met a few of the current Saturday Night Live cast members (Fred Armisen, Bobby Moynihan, Jay Pharoah, and Taran Killam) recently on two separate occasions and they were all really nice and sweet both times.

Kunal Sharma (from Cheetah Girls 3) - I was an extra for the movie The Prankster and this guy was great. He was really funny and open with all of us extras :thumbsup2

Ken Davitian - My parents met him while I was doing the filming part, and they said he was hilarious.

Dwight Clark - From the 49ers, hit me with a golf ball during a charity event. Laughed and walked away :confused3 I was only about 12, and while it didn't hurt much, he didn't know that, and could have at least apologized, or heck, given me a golf ball :rotfl: Instead after he hit me with it, some other people chased after it and ran off. They really thought I wanted it and they were getting something awesome :lmao: Some guy from the Raiders came over to check if I was alright, I wish I had known his name. All I know was that he was a current player and that I was a 49er fan. Thanked him for his time and concern, but I just shrugged it off.

Michael Berryman - Eh, he helped my mom with a fundraiser, but he was kinda stand offish. He may have just been overwhelmed, or heck, bored, but I was a little disappointed.

My dad used to drink in the same pub as Richard Burton, and met both him and Elizabeth Taylor multiple times. Always said they were absolutely brilliant. He still goes on about how classy she was, compared to famous women today :lmao: He also used to drink with Robbie Coltrane, says he was a great guy too.

My brother was in security, and so he met a LOT of celebrities, but he rarely ever talks about them. I do know that he thought the Spice Girls were terrible, personality wise, but that he loved working for Bon Jovi. :goodvibes

I completely forgot! Rascal Flats was amazing.

My best friend in high school had an older sister who passed away from a brain aneurism very young (I want to say 12ish?) They knew very early on that she wouldn't survive past her preteen years, and they started a charity/awareness group for things like this, and they had a standing booth at the local concert arena. Fast forward, my best friend's sister is 7, and they're at a Rascal Flats concert, and they brought her up on stage and sang to her. No one asked them to, they had just seen the booth and wanted to do something for her. I wasn't there, but that always brings tears to my eyes. :goodvibes

Oh, and from my friends who met a few others: T-Pain is supposedly great, same with the guys from Hansen. Neil Patrick Harris is amazing and cracks jokes and is totally a normal guy :thumbsup2, and Justin Bieber has a huge attitude problem with people he views as beneath him. :(

IOh, and from my friends who met a few others: T-Pain is supposedly great.

I could see this. I was *lucky* enough to attend a Radio Station "Bash" when my son won tickets.

T-Pain was REALLY into the audience, REALLY into having a good time and REALLY could work the crowd. I was impressed. He was last, and kept going and going. They turned all the lights on, he kept going, they cut the sound, and he finished his song, with no background music, mind-you, and apologized for being "kicked off the stage". :lmao:

Walter Matheau(sp) sooo nice Victoria Principle(Pam on Dallas) oh pulleeeze unbelievably rude and full of herself

Not me but my DH.

He went to a military school where they filmed the movie Taps. (1980/81). All the cadets were part of the move. Many big stars were there:

George C. Scott- very kind to all the cadets. He sat with them and asked them questions and was very respectful.

Tom Cruise- Not super rude. I think this was one of his first movies. If you see the movie, he looks very different - almost chubby. You would not know it was him. NO atitude.

Sean Penn- ok. Not terrible either. Decent enough

The biggest jerk was Timothy Hutton. He had just come off Ordinary People and was RUDE to everyone. Rude to the cadets, rude to staff, complaining about the conditions and food and very demanding. He was so rude to everyone. And let me tell you, you don't get hundreds of military school cadets angry at you.. they would call him "Timmy".. and it would get him mad. Not that it was right, but the cadets would shout Timmy..if he was doing scenes.. and it would get him to blow the scene.

A classmate of my DH had a task of taking Sean Penn, Tom Cruise and Timmy places- shopping and stuff. If you ask him about it, he'd say something like I can believe I went to the mall with these guys back in the day.

Every year Chicago Ridge has their RIDGE FEST. They get mostly older bands and celeberty bands to be the entertainment.

A while back they got Keanu Reeves and his band to play. Before they went on, Keanu was out on the fair grounds winning stuffed animals and giving them away to the kids that walked by. He was SUPER nice chatting with anyone, and signing autograghs.

The next year we had Kevin Bacon and his band play. Lets just be nice and take Thumper's mom advice: "If you can't sat nofin nice, don't say nofin at all! ; )

So here is my list: NICE
Keanu Reeves
Peter Frampton
Michael Zaslow ( Roger Thorpe from the Guiding Light)
Hank Williams Jr.

Not so nice and little wonky:
Kevin Bacon

I have to Agree with Keanu reeves being nice met him while his band dogstar was in dallas and he signed my concert ticket and a friend got his whole band to sign my cd.

Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top is also very nice. We were at the music hall watching a musical and my 2 year old at the time was acting up and we were in the hall and he came by and sang a lil for her calmed her down. LOL my husband told him that she was their littlest fan she loves ZZ top.:worship: He was just there to watch a musical was not expecting a lil concert for my 2 year old :hyper:

Also Dick Clark was very sweet met him when his american bandstand eatery in grapevine was open. Got a pic and he signed a teddybear for me. RIP dick clark a real class act sweetest man I ever known

new orleans use to host the NATPE convention where the stars would come to sell their shows to syndication. when i was little, we'd go stand outside for autographs.

best: craig t. nelson, regis, oprah (before she was a giant and just starting out), kevin costner. (there are tons more)

worst: julia roberts, James spader. they stick out the most, because I liked them so much.

I drive a dressing room truck, (Honeywagon) and trailers for the actors on set. I hear you on James Spader, But, he suffers from severe OCD. I had him in my trailer for the movie, "Crash." He was "Quirky," and sometimes intolerable, but once he settled in, and got to know me, he was alright. He,, Spader, kept apologizing for being such a pain in the ***. He was really pretty cool once he knew my routines and the fact that I left the talent alone unless they needed something. We hung out and shot the breeze about life in general. He doesn't like watching people eat, which again he apologized for.
I give James Spader a lot of space, grace, and respect in that he knows he has a personality disorder but really tried to be a gracious guest, which for me he really was.
I'm going to name a lot of people as Ive driven for the studios for 38 years, so here's my list off of the top of my head.
The Super nice people are: These people went out of their way to be really nice and engaged me in conversation Allot: John Ritter had lunch with me a lot. What a sweetheart. Robin Williams, really shy, Super sweet guy. Shy, But loved talking with people behind the barricades, taking pictures with kids, and whoever wanted to time permitting, God rest him. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were great, Jay Leno, Reba, Andy Griffeth, Willem Defoe. I helped him pick out a perfume for his wife. He bought what my wife wares, lol. Danny DeVito, Courtney Cox, Sandra Bullock, Tony Danza, John Travolta, Clint Eastwood, Terri Garr, Deone Perry, and Martin Barre of Jethro Tull, Sammy Hagar, Kaneu Reeves (I'm not sure how to spell his name), Paul McCartney, John Candy. John threw a wrap party for the crew, which are the electricians, Gaffers, Camera crew, honey wagon drivers, extras, (Most people treat the extras like garbage), craft service....it went on. A huge tent, tons of food, and a live band. What a wonderful man. He too left us too early. There are more, I'm forgetting.
Most actors are cool, it's the Directors who can be jerks. James Cameron is a complete D1ck!
Nice: Mell Gibson. Chain smoker! Very cool guy. Jennifer Aniston took me out for a coffee and talked cars for hours with me as she was looking for a new one. Thomas Gibson, Paul Rogers of Bad Company, Sylvester Stallone once he's comfortable. He's uncomfortable with the swooning thing. Matt Damon, Ringo Star, Ozzy Osbourne, Arnold Schwarzenegger, smoked a cigar with me every night after the shoot. Tom Hanks, Robert Plant, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, Kerry Washington, Bellamy Young, Scott Foley (Scandal). Bellamy is gorgeous like Kerry. Scott is really a funny, down-to-earth guy. John Paul Jones of Zeppelin, Denzel Washington was always nice to me. I saw him on a jerk list, but he was cool. Matthew McConaughey, Jaclyn Smith. I was in love with her since I was 15. I'm so glad she was sweet. Here's a surprise. Bill O'Reilly. Yes, him. We talked for hours while he was our guest. He was talking to a wife whose husband died. He offered to pay for her son's college tuition for two years. He was a nice man to me and obviously very generous. Who knew?

Total Asses: Steven Segal is unbearable, Jennifer Lopez, Will Ferrel was a jerk to fans as was his buddy, John C Reilly, Barbary Streisand. Wow, what a b1tch! Michelle Obama. What an entitled B1tch. Treated the little people like gum on her shoes. President Obama I heard was cool, but not his wife. Elen Degeneres is a b1tch, Buddy Rich, Gene Hackman, Rodney Dangerfield...What a Jerk! Tarantino is a weird dude, Jerry Lewis...a legendary jerk, Sharon Osbourne, Richie Blackmore, Sean Penn...Wow. I'll finish with Julia Roberts. I hd a crush on her. She was....unpleasant to put it lightly.

Allot of actors you can meet on a bad day. We all have them. so keep that in mind. I have a friend who met Kevin James while he was with his wife. Bad timing. He's a great guy! In my experience Never shout out their name, and never interrupt them while they're eating, especially with their family! Any of us would snap at some stranger if they did that, right?
