Who is the impulse buyer/shopper in your family?

It's my husband! I asked him to stop at the grocery store once with a list of about 5 items...He comes home and needs help carrying in ALL the groceries. He even bought "living lettuce"....WTH is that? A normal head of lettuce wouldn't do? Of course, lettuce wasn't even on the list! We had some already. He thought it looked "cool". What should have been a $20 trip ended up costing us $200. That was the last grocery trip he has taken by himself.

I just had to post this. :rotfl2: My husband calls me and is getting home early today. GREAT I am thinking..he can pick up a rotisserie chicken for me. Then I would not have to go out for it and then back home to make the sides. Well...........I thought twice wondering if he would indeed come home with two chickens..which we would NOT need. SO..I said to him "We only need one chicken". SO he gets home with ONE chicken that was 5.99. DO you think the receipt says that?????????????????

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It says 14.76 WHY????????????????????????

He came home with CANDY AND GUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headache: I GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife is definitely the impulse buyer in our house! She is a sucker for donation requests (police organizations, childrens programs etc etc etc)
She is an easy sell in high pressure situations as well. She gets caught up in all the excitement and just wants to yell - YES! with glee HAHA
I on the other hand am more apt to so NO, Thank you!
So - we keep each other balanced.

OMG I COMPLETEY FORGOT ABOUT THE KIRBY VACUUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last summer this guy comes by (college age) asking if we would like our stairs and livingroom cleaned FOR FREE.

I was stupid .............it was supposed to be a carpet cleaning he was going to do..BUT INSTEAD he was demonstrating the KIRBY for so long we never got the free carpet cleaning. I was impressed with all that it did. However I really needed to get out the door to my son's high school summer soccer game that evening.. so I told him we needed to go and that we were not interested. I was an idiot to ever ever ever let him in to demonstrate. That is my fault.

I was rushing him trying to get out the door. He asked me if he could leave the stuff and come back later and pick it up and I was in such a hurry I said sure. DUMB I KNOW but I had NO time for him to pack it all up..he was already there way longer than he said. SO............I called my husband and told him that when he got home if we were not there TO JUST SAY NO. So we all were home and the guy shows up later than I thought...... and my husband is at the door with him and telling him No we can't afford it, our dd is going off to college and blah blah blah. He is doing a great job....BUT THEN the guy says.....I can knock a few hundred off blah blah blah and he had his manager there too trying to make the hard sale. I am in my son's room just hoping he can say NO NO NO NO and I am in there trying to avoid making a scene. He is good at turning people away at our door who solicit all the time. OMG I was WRONG...................HE SAID OKAY AND BOUGHT THE THING. OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG He convinced me that it was okay...we would have it forever and ever and blah blah blah and look what great a job it did. Well you have a 3 day time period to change your mind and I so wanted to do that and he said nah.....it will be fine we will love it and it comes with the carpet cleaning system too.

LET ME SAY THAT IS THE BIGGEST REGRET EVER. It is sooooooo heavy to move around. I keep it upstairs and never take it downstairs. I use my Oreck downstairs and more than the Kirby. Matter of fact...I can't even find the extra bag and so when I changed it .....it has not been used since and that was a few months ago. :rotfl2: I should just ebay the thing.

HUGE BUYER'S REMORSE. :sad2:

My DH is the one in our family. I have gotten better about not mentioning that I'm even contemplating any kind of large purchase (e.g. I can never say, "I was thinking maybe we should get a new laptop some day..." or, "wouldn't it be cool if we had one of those Class C motorhomes?").
This made me laugh because my good friend knows all about my fiasco I posted here, but she told her husband they need a motorhome, she said it jokingly. Later that night she found him on Craigslist looking at motorhomes! She was like AAAAAH, NOOOOOOOO!

In our house, DH is definately the spender. He spent $800 on a ceiling fan for our bedroom a couple of years ago. I didn't even know they MADE $800 ceiling fans, but he managed to find one. I don't know if this will make vegasnative feel better, but when our DS was 8 my friend and I took the boys on a DC trip. While we were gone, he bought DD a new 10 speed bike and bought a new stove and microwave!!!! This is a man who cooks hot dogs once a year! If he had traded my car in, he would have been sleeping in the one he bought and I would have mortgaged us up the wazoo to buy a new mini van. As it is, I made it perfectly clear that if he ever did that again he would rediscover the joys of sleeping in a tent.
Thanks, for trying! :rotfl: That is totally my husband. He would do the same thing.

Thats just wrong. Sounds like he doesn't think much of you.

You can get your van back - it will cost a boatload of money - but you can sell your new car and buy your old vehicle back. I guarantee you your husband will NEVER do it again. It might be worth the expense to wake him up to the fact that you are an equal partner in your relationship. How would he feel if you did that to him? That was my other suggestion. Sell his car and buy one you like without him knowing. "Honey, I saw this and thought it was bad a** so I bought it."

Believe it or not, but it's the opposite. He thinks I'm the queen, and that I need to be driving something "nicer/cooler" than a mini van....but what he failed to realize is that I was good with the van. I'm not all about appearances. He did call the dealership after about the 4th day of me complaining and they said we could get the van back for $2600....no thanks. He did go out of town the next month, and while I was driving him to the airport I told him "you should have taken all the stuff out of your truck". He asked why. I told him "cuz it would be easier for me to trade it in that way, I'm thinking of getting you a mini cooper". :)

Sadly we both are.

...but the stories remind me of my father. My parents TV went, and my father was a HUGE TV fan. My mother told him to run up to Best Buy and get a new one, fully expecting he would come home with a new 27." He came home with a TV with something like an 80in screen in the back of his pickup. The darn thing took up a whole wall. :lmao:

Sorry no. My husband would think he was doing something nice, I bet the PP's did, too.
