Who is Quasar in Marvel Comics?

I was playing Marvel Strike Force and noticed a hero named Quasar and I would like to know a little more about his background? Quasar's real name is Wendell Vaughn and I never even heard of this hero until he was announced in Marvel Strike Force and does Quasar have super powers too? I thought Quasar was an odd name because the only Quasar I knew was an appliance company named Quasar. When did Quasar make his Marvel debut?

Quasar is a character who was the first heir to Captain Marvel - Mar-Vell. Mar-Vell is the character that Anette Benning played a female version of in the movie. Wendell Vaughan worked at Project Pegasus (also in the movie). Sometime after Mar-Vell's death, the cosmic entity Eon, who had given Mar-Veell his Nega Bands, chose Wendel as the successor "Protector of the Universe" and gave him the upgraded Quantum Bands. The bands give him powers similar to DC's Green Lantern, with energy constructs, etc. Quasar was kind of his own thing and had a really great solo comic early on. The Captain Marvel lineage followed Monica Rambeaux, then Mar-Vell's son for a while before landing back at his original partner Carol Danvers. There have been some other Quasar's too, but none that are really notable as it always seems to circle back to Wendell.
