I am somewhat concerned about one of our cliqueless friends. St. Louis was hit by a terrible storm last night. Almost 500,000 people are without power and is not expected to be restored for 3 to 5 days. Our fellow cliqueless friend 2xcited2slp lives in that area and has not posted for a couple of days. I have pm'd her, but if she is without power will not be able to respond. A couple of you have missed her as well, so thought that perhaps I should mention this.2excited2slp: sending you a prayer and a message to get back on here and let us know that your ok!!! :grouphug:

April: A dissertation of my job is on pg60 post#892!!!

wow... hope they are ok! 2xcited2spl....we're saying our prayers for you. Hope you're safe and sound. We've missed you! pixiedust:

Have a good evening everyone!

Yes, very well said. I hope they made it through ok. And I hope that is not the same storm that is expected here in KC tomorrow.

Today: more househunting, we are getting closer to finding a compromise between *my* perfect house and *my folks* ideal investment property. After looking at a few others, they decided to withdraw their existing bid. The counteroffer was too high, and I helped them see that the neighborhood was not ideal for my children. We found a similar, but nicer, house near a friend from work, on a cul-de-sac - it is a possibility. So the search is back on!

I came home today to a flooded laundry room. I just HAD to run that one load this morning. Darn it, I knew I'm usually lazy & inefficient for a reason! :rotfl: So... I'm not sure if it was the washing machine or the water heater that was leaking, becuase the lake, I mean puddle, went clear from one to the other by way of under the dryer. Which made me afraid to run the dryer for fear of electrocution. And Lyzzie's favorite blankie, which she sleeps with every night, is of course in that wet load of laundry. My dad came over to "help," which pretty much amounted to drying the floor with my nice clean towels, all while tossing clean clothes onto the wet floor and tracking dirt through the house. Said dirt of course turned to mud. Ick. (His advice about the running the dryer: "wear shoes." ) I've got the dryer running now, and so far so good - no sparks. I'm glad this day is over.

A funny tidbit to entertain you all: Working on Emma with her speech, we ask her to repeat sentences one word at a time. Today's sentence: I am a very smart girl. Her interpretation: I am a way fart good-girl. :rotfl2:

Good wishes to all, and have a happy Friday tomorrow! :woohoo:

HEEELLLLOOOOO OUT THERE!!!!!!!

Thank you all so much for your concern. I have been crazy busy with work and health issue so this week has been absolutely nuts. I planned to check in tonight to say hello but cannot stay very long because I must get sleep. Have to be at work at 7am (worked until 9 tonight) and no matter how early I get there tomorrow, my first client is always 1/2 early. I never sleep well when I know she is my first client because I am so afraid I will oversleep.

Anyway, I am sure you all heard about our storm last night. They have sent the National Guard out. Wow, it was more serious than I thought. I am sometimes so oblivious. I was home but the tornado sirens never went on. My electricity flickered a couple of times but always came right back on. When I turned the news back on later last night I found out that it was hit the worst right around me----South City of St. Louis. I am one of the lucky ones in that I still have power--but it is literally block by block. A couple of members of my family are without power and many clients. All hotels in the area are booked solid. The thing that makes it so bad is the temperature. 103 today. Ouch. My mom's place of work and my dad's company are both out of power but thank goodness their home is ok. My company was business as usual. I work about 1/2 hour away from where I live. My parents live about 15 min. away from where I work. Family members without power live 1/2 hour from where I live and work--the opposite way than my parents' home. As you can see (or can't---because does this make a bit of sense??), this storm was very widespread. Damage everywhere. Anyway, thanks again for your concern. You all are so sweet. I will catch up this weekend. I feel like I have missed so much. Hope all is well with all of you. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Dolphinresuegirl: A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!:bday: :cake:

Thank you.

Yes, I hope she has successful treatment. :grouphug:

I'm always the late one. I sure hope all is well with 2xcitd...It does sound bad in St Louis and the temps are going to be brutal tomorrow. :sad2:

I worked today and will again tomorrow. I work for the WIC program (2 days a week). I'm a dietitian. I can't type, spell, or operate a computer well. :rolleyes1

Hope everyone stayed cool today...tomorrow looks hot too but I think cooler air is on the way for Oklahoma(not until the evening).

Was relieved to see 2xited2slp check in last night. I crashed kind of early and didn't see her post until just now. GLAD TO KNOW EVERYTHING IS NORMAL ON YOUR BLOCK!!!

Lindakmonty: I did enjoy going on that cruise with you yesterday. That cold drink and hammock was just what I needed!!! :drinking1

Lyzziesmom: I too have awakened to a flooded basement. In our previous house my deep freeze was floating in the water!!! Hope you find your house!!

Today is DH's birthday. I am taking him and DS out to eat tonight and I think that is about it. Maybe I'll take him to WDW and USO next week...sounds good!!!

.....and all I have left to say is "TGIF!!!!!"

Glad to see you're ok 2xcited2slp!!! Stay cool today in that :sunny: !!

:bday: :cake: :bday: Happy Birthday Donna's DH :) Enjoy your dinner out. I'm taking dh and ds out this weekend too for his b-day. He turned 45 Tuesday but its so hard for me to eat out during the week. Getting in around 6:30....just too late to go out anywhere, and enjoy it. Glad you enjoyed the cruise :)!! I love it!!!! TGIF  !!

Have a great Friday everyone!!!

Good morning, everyone, and TGIF!!

A happy BELATED birthday out to Dolphinrescuegirl!!! -

2xcited2slp - I saw the St. Louis storm damage on the news last night, looks REALLY bad, but glad to hear that you're OK, Prayers out for the folks up there that don't have power and are suffering in this horrible HEAT! :sunny: :sunny:

Tinkerbell Girl - I am so sorry to hear about your grandma - will keep her in prayers, and here's some extra pixie dust for you and all your family... pixiedust: pixiedust: :grouphug:

:bday: to Donna's DH.

Praying that nobody has any crisis today - no flooded basesments, nobody locked out of houses. All we've gotta do here in OK is get through today... but I saw on the weather last night that as of next Wednesday, we're supposed to be back up to 100 again.

I wish something exciting [but good - like winning the lottery?] would happen in my life - our pool pump motor died earlier this week, but it's fixed and back on the pump. Woohoo. Although, the kids said the pool felt like a bath last night with it being so warm. DD leaves Monday with our church's small youth contingency on a mission trip to Mississippi - rebuilding. I'll worry all week. Oh well, until then, it's almost the weekend!

Happy Friday, everyone and TTFN!

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for all of the prayers, they mean alot to my family and me.

2xcited2slp- I'm glad to see your okay.

Happy Birthday to Donna's DH! :bday:
Happy belated Birthday to dolphinrescuegirl! :bday:

I hope everyone has a great day!

Hey everyone.

Nicole, I'm so sorry to hear about you Grandmother. You, your family and her are all in my prayers.

2xcited: I'm glad your house still has power! I've been through many a hurricane in South Florida and having no power for weeks is NOT fun. I'm glad you are ok and safe!!

Well last night DH & I had a mega-fight. Not pretty and I don't want to tell the story, I just come off bad in it!!

To make matters worse, DH asked for the raise yesterday (Thanks everybody for the suggestions) and the boss told him he'll talk to his supervisor and talk to him tomrrow. Well he goes in today and he basically gave him he run-around but said "no". He said that when they get a new CFO (I have no idea what this is) that he will be re-evaluated. He said that he doesn't want this couple who works at the company, who are DH's supervisors to "jump all over him and make a reason to fire him" because the company is having "money troubles". uhh hello, I think my husband knows the finanical position of the company, he is the controller of the company. He actually said that he will give DH money out of HIS OWN check next week??! huh? No Thank You.

DH is very upset & feels very under-appreciated, but like I wrote in an email to DH, "He(the boss) is a big PANSY BOY who was the nerdy kid in school so he has to act like the COOL BOY now." All he tries to do is impress this married couple who works for him and thats the problem. Aren't those nice words to say about somebody? I told you guys I can be immature. pirate:

Anyway, Thank God it's Friday. I want to spend this weekend laying out by the pool, where no weird woman can take my chairs!!! And work on my tan for Disney!! :cheer2:

(Can you tell I'm trying to cheer myself up?)

CFO = Chief Financial Officer. Basically, the head accounting guru. Did your DH get anything in writing promising a re-evaluation? If not, he should request it. Whenever anyone new comes in, it'll be his word against Pansy Boy's word that this re-eval was promised.

Just to clear things up: my laundry flood is not in a basement, it is in a utility room/pantry right next to my kitchen. So this potentially could get very bad. I've got a call in to my apartment's maintenance, but they are idiots. They once "fixed" the wrong toilet, and completely ignored the broken one!! Also, I wish I could be home to see what they do, as they typically leave a note that says "Fixed (insert broken thing here)." Yeah, because THAT'S helpful. As of this morning, I had left a large beach towel on the floor to soak up the water and it was pretty much saturated.

Hi Ashley!

Thanks for the prayers.

That's too bad about your DH's raise. I was hoping he would get one.

I'm sorry that you and DH got in a fight. Hopefully everything will be ok. When me and DBF fight I scream and yell and then later on I am totally over the fight! Him OTOH stews for a while.

Lyzziesmom:

Thanks for explanation about the CFO thing. He hasn't gotten in writing. I'm going to call him now and ask him to.

I'm sorry about the flood in your house!

In December, our whole house was flooded because our water heater exploded (atleast thats what the maintence guy said.) It happend at about 3 in the morning, and it also flooded the 2 apartments below us. It ruined most of our furniture, and fried my computer charger, luckily the computer wasn't harmed. The firemen came because the smoke detector was going off, my cats were running all around trying to find a dry space, it was a nightmare! (Thank God it was before we had Ruby, she would've had a fit!)

So I hope you get this fixed, before it gets to be a bigger problem. We had to live in a hotel while they put down new carpet, etc. Every room, (including my walk in closet!) was flooded, most of my clothes were ruined too because they were on the floor in the hampers and that was soaked, and they just threw the clothes in the bath tub, resulting in the colors running and mold growing (They wouldn't let us back in because of the 'fire hazard'.) Whew, that was long.

and Emma's new sentence is adorable. You should get that on tape and embarass her when shes older. :)

pozey...glad you like Harleys :thumbsup2 DH has one and we really enjoy a nice Sunday afternoon ride. We only do maybe 10x's a year...but it's nice to get out. Some alone time...

DznyFan....I'm grabbing my suit now!!! Pool sounds fantastic :) DH had one here before we met and sold it :(!!! I grew up w/an inground pool and I miss it so much.

Ashley...sorry your DH didn't get his raise. Sounds like they're being unreasonable but I've lived in that situation for years. I need to get off my butt and decide what I want to do!! Sorry you guys got into a fight... that's never fun. The making up part can be good though ;)

lyzziesmom.... wow, hope they get your mess fixed... RIGHT and the first time!!! Your daughter sounds so adorable!! Sounds like we both need to record some of the things they say. We were going up to my neice's birthday party at Kalahari (indoor waterpark) and he was telling me about if Bradley (his 2yr old cousin) was his son he wouldn't let him do this and wouldn't let him do that... it was just so cute... "if he were my son"...he's 5 and talking about him having a son :rotfl: he kills me!!

Have a good one guys...I can't wait til this day is over!!!

I'm so happy my ex didn't pick ds5 up last night :woohoo: for the weekend. He gets him every Th night from TH at 6pm to Fri @6 but everyother weekend until Sun @6...this was his weekend to go and he called and said he couldn't take him :woohoo: made my weekend!!! At least now I know he'll be safe and not come home sick as usual!!!!

OK, guys – I’m going to seek unbiased opinions from you. My friends here just chuckle and feel sorry for me. I’ve let it go for years – have been very patient and tolerant. Probably just my quiet nature. I don’t think there’s really anything I can do, but would like your take. This will be LONG – sorry.

I moved to OK 23 years ago, when I was 19. Left my family in CA where I grew up. I have a sister who is 7 years older than I am, and we are polar opposites. She was the ‘good’ kid – perfect, straight A grades, didn’t have much of a social life. I was the rebel. Listened to rock & roll, average grades, partied, yada yada yada. Much of her adult life she spent managing mortgage companies and pulling back high five and six figure incomes. I spent mine playing music part time, and working as an admin assistant with an average income for my career.

Two years ago, she moved to OK, after our mom passed away. Dad still living in CA. She wants to be best buds now that she’s here, and I just can’t do it. She lives on many acres with almost as many animals (if not more) than acres. At last count, dogs were up to 16. That’s just the dogs. She has horses, dogs and cats. I grew up on horses, but really don’t have much to do with them now, and I have trouble going to her house because she’s not much of a housekeeper. (Most of the dogs live in the house – get the picture?) :confused3 I’m not a clean freak, but I do keep a relatively clean house. It’s swept, vacuumed and dusted weekly.

When she calls me on the phone, the conversation is dominated by her, and revolves around her horses, her sons (also perfect straight-A kids), whatever work crisis she’s in (mad at ‘X’ person(s) because they’re doing something wrong in her opinion, or mad because she’s not ‘part of the gang’ in her workplace), or talks on about whatever horse-related business venture she and her hubby are currently pursuing. (there’ve been several). My conversation consists mainly of “yeah”, and “uh-huh”. There is no 'small talk' – what movies have you seen? What books are you reading? What did you do today? None. I occasionally talk Disney if she asks (about WDW) but my brief foray into adult speech is quickly interrupted, and she changes subjects quickly back to whatever is her topic of the day. She's a pro at making mountains out of molehills. I'm just a pretty easygoing, roll-with-it kinda girl.

I’ve often wanted to tell her that there’s more to life, that we can talk about OTHER things than her life. My DD says I need to just stop her mid-conversation and tell her “If you want to talk to me, we need to talk about something else”. Problem is, she’s VERY sensitive – she’ll cry and think I don’t like her anymore. I am not kidding. She will go into self-loathing mode. I’ve seen it. It ain’t pretty. So….I let her ramble, but I avoid her phone calls until I’m in the right frame of mind to talk to her. Am I a horrible sister, or what??

So… if this were your sibling (and maybe you have one of these) what would you do? Just curious!

Nicole:

I'm the same way. I scream and throw things around (last night I threw my phone! told you I come off bad) and then I'm fine, and he holds a grudge. I think he's over it though. :thumbsup2

Wow Ashley that must have been some flood! Mine has supposedly been fixed, the idiot repairman did NOT call as I asked them twice to do, he left a note that says "adjusted drain hose have a great day." Lovely. Now tell me what that means. :confused3

Nicole - best wishes for your grandma. I know how hard it can be. 4 years ago my brother, then 21, was diagnosed with leukemia and given a 20% survival rate for 5 years. He has now been in remission for a couple years, but it caused other problems and he can barely walk. He doesn't really let it bother him though. I tell you, if it was me, I sure wouldn't continue with school & work. I'd be doing all the things on my "must do in my lifetime" list, and quickly. My mom says that if one of her kids had to get sick, she's glad it was him, because I'd be too much of a pain! Thanks Mom, from both of us!!

Anyway, 6 months later my grandma was diagnosed with the same type of cancer as my brother. She is also now in remission. In fact, she just babysat my very active girls for 10 days a couple months ago while my folks were on vacation. While it can be a very trying time, hang in there & have faith, and do all you can to keep her spirits up. It really does make a difference.

I may have a new house!! We finally found one that my parents like AND I like. Would somebody please check to see if hell has frozen over? It just went on the market yesterday & is cheap because it's an estate sale. The decor has GOT to go... I don't think it's been remodeled since maybe 1962. Yikes! But that could be fun. And if we get it, I am gonna need a LOT more furniture. My folks are meeting with the realtor right now & drawing up some papers, they think this one's gonna go fast. Wish me luck and do the happy dance with me! I'm too keyed up to sleep... maybe I'll clear out some of the stuff on the tivo.

'Night all! DonnaLeah, please fix me a nice cold chocolate milk in the morning as I don't do coffee or soda.

DznyFan: Not sure I know what I would do. It would be a matter of helping her see the light...like the world does not revolve around her. I can understand you not wanting to spend time with her because what is there to enjoy? I'm a bit "off" with my sister right now because we don't see eye to eye with our kids. Sometimes I feel like we do not owe someone an explanation as to why we don't want to be around them when they already know the answer(or should know it). Many times I'm like you and just avoid the person...skipping phone calls etc. I know this isn't much help...anyone else?

Lizziesmom: Good luck getting the house. :Pinkbounc

2excitd: Glad all is well.

Happy birthday to all the birthday folks....DS will be 9 on Sunday. :cheer2: :cheer2:

We finally had the cold front move through. The weather was great tonight..in the 80's with a nice north breaze. We took the boys fishing in a little neighborhood pond. They caught a bunch of perch. :cheer2: Hope everyone had a good Firday.... :woohoo: It's the weekend.
